"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm back! I changed my mobile (I access it on my mobile) and I've been going through the nightmare of signing into everything again.

They have this smart switch to transfer apps etc. Why it doesn't transfer passwords I don't know.

I'll get settled back later. Schools are back so life returns to normal.
Good to see you back @maglil55. You've been missed. I thought it would be due to the school holidays but I see that technology rears its ugly head again to put in its contribution.

Had the last mini chicken and mushroom pie for breakfast. Cold from the fridge it was fine and a very easy meal. Short of time this morning because I changed my leg bandaging day from yesterday to today so that I could take the time with my brother and sister in law on their short visit.

2nd meal depends on what Neil can get in the town for me.

My niece is still frequenting South Uist for work. She's there every second week. I think the B&B she's living in are regarding her as a friend she's there that often! She had to take two ferries over this time as hers was cancelled. She's there at the moment. Not sure when she's back. She's doing a lot of work though.

Good to see you back I was hoping you were ok - pleased it was technology issues rather than health problems.

We often talk about impact of food on our blood glucose numbers but wonder if anyone has had an impact on their bgs of food they dreamt about rather than ate?
I was chatting to a family friend yesterday evening about the sweet shop that George's Mum and Dad owned and we also ran for a couple of years to help them out and earn some money to pay for post graduate training. We talked about various old fashioned sweets and I had a really vivid dream last night with tastes and smells of the sweets. Very enjoyable but it was so realistic that I woke up worried my fasting bloods would be up so imagine my surprise when meter said my lowest fasting bgs ever of 3.7 ! My usual is 4.9 to 5.2. All I can think is that body produced insulin in anticipation of the sweet treats which never appeared in reality!
I often dream about foods and I can taste them in the dreams! Oddly, they often include foods I don't like (and have never liked). Then I awake with the taste in my mouth. The reason I know how they taste us that I've always given things a try (some more than once) just to make sure I don't like them.

Hubby just thinks I'm weird!

The deed is done. The vet said he had heart failure so we know it was the right decision. He went peacefully and slowly being stroked and loved.

Interesting was my bg. Started going up from 3pm and stayed up until after 6 (aka the deed). Can only be stress related.
I feel for you. We both went to the vet with ours when she was suffering with kidney failure. She was 18y 6m, a great age for a cat. Like you it was very peaceful, stroking and talking. Years ago now but seems like yesterday.

Food today

B. TAG, Benecol Dairy Free, bit of crustless quiche.

L. Mug of Marigold vegetable boullion.

D. The SRSLY wrap thing I'm still addicted to. SRSLY wrap, avocado, 2 tomatoes, lettuce, individual cheddar bit, chicken bits done with Skinny Food co honey & tamari soy. Peri peri sauce. Vodka and diet coke.

I've got a lot of reading to do to catch up. DIL'S Mum & Dad are away back to the USA now. They were here for 7 weeks. We were out for meals a few times during the summer break. I had a very successful shopping trip with the eldest grandson back in July, and I did inject colour into his life! How he survived over two hours and three different stores with me, I don't know.

The other big event in July (this should impress you @Antje77 ). The niece who ran the Edinburgh marathon for Myloma UK a few years back decided another bit of fundraising was needed. As many of you know, I lost my entire birth family to various cancers. Her Dad was my eldest brother and the last to go. He didn't die with Myloma. That was my other brother, but it gets nothing like the recognition or funding of other cancers, and yet it is surprisingly common. Anyway, she decided she would do the Chill Swim. A swim of the length of Ullswater in the Lake District, a mere 12k! She took it on 13 July (which would have been her Dad's birthday). It was not perfect conditions, very choppy, and she said very, very cold. She completed it in 4h 47m, which delighted her. We're all very proud of her, and so far, her fundraising is around £1,600. I just wonder what she'll try next, triathlon?? That's her at her cabin. The Chill Swim had them in the night before the swim. 20240816_182529.jpgFB_IMG_1721042388898.jpg

First thing I went to check neighbours garden we'd been looking after while they were away on cruise. Had had to do fairly little as it conveniently rained every few days. But did pick another 2 kg beans.
Walked there as the Lane and main road are "closed" for gas works, but found no holes, only parked vehicles yet residents are on a 2 mile diversion down single track lanes. Absolutely no reason at all and the jams and rat runs are horrendous grrr!

Then on to village hall to start preparing for bank holiday fete. We'd put out a plea for help, children welcome, and ended up with 4 oaps only. :banghead: Where do the younger generations think these things appear from ? Magic?

Still managed to set up over 300 tombola items. Should raise about £1,000.

Then back home, grabbed a chunk of cheese then drove an 87 year old neighbour off to specialist hospital for a day procedure that had been cancelled 3 times before.
Told to await phone call to collect the her in 3-6 hours. After 6 hours of no communication, I called to be told I could not be given info because I wasn't next of kin, so I drive the 20+ miles there to track her down. Found her in a ward (eventually) as she was being kept in. Apparently this was planned (though she thinks not!). Drove home again. (FYI her next of kin is a cousin who lives in Scotland!!!)

Oh in the middle I did pop into the big Waitrose in that town and found 6 packs of the Olinas crackers :)

Somewhere along the evening I grabbed a bit of chicken shwarma and some green beans.

And 2 glasses wine at the end!

Didn't make a 2nd meal. When we got home from town, I just collapsed in my big chair and fell asleep - it had been a very busy morning and I was on my feet much more than usual. Slept for about 2 hours and soon after I woke, a friend called to tell me that a couple I hadn't seen in several years was visiting and she would come and collect me so that we could all meet up. I almost didn't go, but decided not to miss them - they had been on the island for a couple of days and were moving on to the Uists tomorrow. Had some chicken and salad with them at the house they were staying in. BG has been high since yesterday so I didn't have much. My Libre monitor had run out of power so I didn't dare step out of line. Came home and had a hot chocolate (made with water) which I'd bought for my brother and SIL. BG now 11.1.

Perfect timing! We all need our beauty sleep @Annb, but you woke up naturally and were not disturbed by the phone. Then, thanks to a lift, you managed to catch up with old friends before they left the island. Couldn't have worked out better, if it had been planned that way!

BG this morning was 9.6 but now - after a cup of tea it's 10.6 but I daresay it will drop again when I have breakfast and insulin.

Have to get a move on with breakfast because the odd-job man that I found has agreed to come to do some work on getting our loft back in order at 9 o'clock. At least I've got all the morning chores out of the way in time.

Breakfast will be scrambled eggs and 2nd meal will be salmon with some tomato and cucumber salad.

I got a phonecall yesterday to tell me that someone had called off for their MRI and did I want to have mine on monday morning 9 am instead of in a month. Yes please! :joyful:

Downside, my Libre will end in a couple of hours. Not really worth it to apply a new one for only two days so I'll be back to old school fingerpricking. I haven't been without a Libre in over 7 years so I am a bit nervous about it.
I guess I'll stick to very low carb to make things easier, let's hope no-one has planned to invite me for Chinese takeaway or the likes...

Scrambled eggs it was, with one RyVita. Took a slightly higher dose of insulin than normal because BG was already high, made no difference, it's higher than ever now. Just having a bad week, I suppose. Maybe I'm absorbing carbs from my baking. Just put the last of the biscuit dough into the oven, so no more handling carby stuff for a while. The dough was left over from a mixture I made a couple of days ago and ran out of steam before I shaped them. I had enough for what I needed.

I do have a mini fish pie left over from the batch that I made, so will have that for a 2nd meal instead of the salmon. Might cook the salmon though to have it ready to have cold with mayo tomorrow.

Hope things go well with the scan on Monday. Fingerpricking is a pain, in more ways than one, the more you have to do it. The only fingers I can get even a little blood out of normally are not fingers but thumbs and since I'm not much use with my left hand, it's always the left thumb that has to take the punishment. It objects pretty rapidly. The Libre is so much better but, of course, it has to be off for the MRI scan. Still, with any luck, they will identify the problem and you can get advice on a course of treatment.

I have an ultra sound scan of my bladder on Wednesday. Not as noisy or restricting as an MRI but a bit messy and chilly with the gel they use. I have no idea who has referred me for the scan or why but I'll go along with it anyway.

It's not the fingerpricking itself, I don't mind at all, doesn't hurt me and I bleed easy even with cold hands. Not a chance on cold hands with the current weather of course, but still.
I expect to be rather nervous not being aware of my bg all the time, I'm so used to it, and to knowing if I'm currently rising or dropping before making dosing decisions. With a sensor, I'm happy cruising along in the 4's and low 5's on those magic days where this actually happens. With fingerpricks only, anything in the 4's will trigger the question if it's time to nudge it up a little already. Or not, because maybe I'm already rising.
Resisting testing every 30 minutes will be the hardest part I expect! :hilarious:

Sensor will end in half an hour, but I think the DiaBox app will keep running for another 6 hours so tonight we'll find out how OCD I actually am when it comes to my diabetes. :angelic:

Good luck with your scan on wednesday!

Good to see you back I was hoping you were ok - pleased it was technology issues rather than health problems.
Technology is still causing issues. O2 decided esim cards were a good thing rather than the plastic. You get instructions on screen during set up it says. Easy to follow it says. No it isn't! The instructions didn't pop up for my transfer at all. Fortunately, I was able to get service by moving my plastic sim to the new handset. The trouble is, it didn't move all my sign ins and passwords! I'm still finding them now. The really secure banking type apps, I'm having to re-register all over again. I have loads of emails/text messages regarding logging in from a new device. Is it you? Can you verify? Going a bit stir crazy!

I always do my changeover first. Hubby's changeover (which I did yesterday) worked fine. Even this esim! All his passwords transferred too! ARGGHH!

Today 17 August. Niece is stuck on Uist. Her ferry was cancelled and she can't get back until Monday now. She tells me it's a two ferry job again to reach the mainland. Thankfully, she's in an excellent B&B who do treat her like one of the family.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SRSLY toast with pate. Benecol dairy free.

L. Nothing - out shopping

D. Salad of 2 chicken drumsticks, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw, veggie salad, coronation chicken, individual cheddar bit, mayo, walnuts.

Now on my second vodka & diet coke.

Still trying to catch up on hundreds of posts. @Annb - did your brother and SIL'S visit go well? Our BIL is doing fine post surgery. The aneurysm is fixed. He's home, still a bit bruised, but doing well.

The friend who was told she'd wait 8 weeks to see someone having been diagnosed with cancer in Thailand, is due to fly home on Tuesday all going well. She's received excellent treatment in Thailand. Hopefully, the Scottish NHS can manage her check ups assuming she is cleared to travel. 20240817_182114.jpg

The Royal visit went well and they left the Island for a stop in Benbecula on Friday morning. They should be leaving from Lochmaddy tomorrow and heading straight back down south. They've found travelling by bus not really to their liking, especially SIL who has some problems with her legs anyway but by the time they got here, her legs were badly swollen. Travelling by bus can do that, I think. I don't think they will be repeating the experience. I was a bit put out at how frail my brother is looking now, even though he is very much recovered from his surgery. At 82, he is, at last, showing his age and his walking has never come back to what it was before he had his heart operation. Now he feels insecure on his feet, as though he has to think all the time about how to put one foot in front of the other and keep his balance. He doesn't sound frail when speaking, so it was a bit of a surprise because, of course, I only ever hear his voice on the phone. Still, he could still outlast me.

So your MRI scan has been brought forward a month or so @Antje77 thanks to another patient pulling out. What a stroke of luck!

Unfortunately, the nature of cancellations means they're apt to come at short notice. Hope it proceeds without incident on Monday.
