Breakfast: more smoked haddock pate on lc crispbread. Coffee x 2.
Ooh never had haddock pâté, sounds delicious! I've recently rediscovered smoked mackerel so have ordered that in pâté form on today's supermarket delivery.
The hip was just too bad over the last few days (still is) so I didn't make soup, but I must, before the ingredients go off. That's today's task.
You have my sympathies. One of the reasons I cook so rarely is that I'm not guaranteed to be well enough on the day(s) I've scheduled for it, so if I've ordered anything special or asked hubby to get something out of the freezer, it may go off before I can deal with it. Hope you're not in too much pain.

I should be as sensible as you but I keep on getting Neil to buy ingredients and then have to use them, whether I feel like it or not. On the other hand, if I didn't, I wouldn't have the ingredients if I wanted to use them. Hobson's Choice or Someone unmentionable's Law.

The smoked haddock pate is easy to make. Just poach some smoked haddock in milk (or steam it). Take the flesh off of any skin. Break it up and put into a blender with some double cream, lemon and salt, if necessary (depends how salty the fish is after cooking). I sometimes add some mayonnaise to it for a change. It'll keep, covered, for a few days in the fridge in a jar or plastic tub.

@Antje77 , are we waiting in vain for a story about a date with onions and garlic?
My apologies again.
I was going to post today but I've had a sore, hot, swollen wrist for the past two days for no reason, and it has just gotten worse. Waiting to see if paracetamol will help enough to sleep, hopefully it'll be better in a day or two, but typing long happy stories isn't working right now.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. These mystery ailments are so annoying.

Hope that sorts itself out soon. Give the wrist a rest for a while - no point overworking it.

Another bad night. I think I might have had a migraine. If I do it usually clears after a sleep and I think that's what happened. Finally woke about 10.

11:00 a 90 second bread toasted with marmite and cheese. Ate the whole thing when I normally only manage half. Cwc

Finally got out in the garden after a short shower in the night. The ground has been too hard to dig and I needed to cull some geraniums that were taking over. Picked a good handful of raspberries and ate them there and then. Ended up being out there about 2 hours

2 chocolate biscuits when neighbour popped in for a cup of tea . Still can't get out of the guilt of not offering anything!

D: 2 pork loin slices with fridge gravel. A chocolate biscuit with a very small amount coffee icecream. A glass red, watered down

is there a chance that when you were outside you were bitten by some kind of insect? the symptoms are similar to an allergy to someone's bite. At least when I was bitten by a wasp, even though I drank an allergy tablet, my wrist was swollen and buzzing for almost a day.

Definitely not an insect bite (I know what wasp and bee stings feel like). More likely an angry tendon or joint, happens occasionally for no apparent reason.

The pain was ok this night with paracetamol and ibuprofen, and I should have had a wonderful night of sleep, except for low alarms going off all the time. Confirmed with ingerpricks too (very annoying, I haven't found a way to open the pot of teststrips without hurting my wrist).
Very strange, this usually ony happens when I share a bed, and the dogs don't count. Or maybe it's my period coming up, we'll see.

We had an absolutely lovely weekend even though it didn't start well for Mark. He'd had a migraine all night and well into the morning before he came, still went to work on friday until they sent him home for looking like warmed up death. He slept for an hour at home with a double dose of medication before taking the almost 3 hour drive to my bridge. Not up to eating yet, I had the oniony meat loaf by myself while he went for a walk.

He started feeling better shortly after, thankfully, and we spent the evening talking in the garden, followed by a campfire with neighbour Tale. And he had the rest of the meatloaf by the fire.
Good thing I had warned him about low alarms through the night, although it wasn't too bad it still needed quite a lot of crisps to stay mostly above 4.

Sturday was for getting a 'new' washing machine with Tale, very lucky we had the extra hands with Mark, and an afternoon of sightseeing until I saw him mentally close up. No wonder after the day before!
So we cut the sightseeing short, did some quick grocery shopping, and I put him in bed in the spare room for 'half an hour' of rest.
Very good decision, he emerged three hours later, feeling much better!
We cooked together, which worked very well, minced meat, lots of veggies, tomato sauce, much like something you'd eat with spaghetti but without the spaghetti. Served with grated cheese and a salad.
Went to my swimming spot while the food was stewing. He doesn't swim but we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful place and the birds.

More sightseeing on sunday, going to the small city of Harlingen where we watched the fishing boats and the large sailing ships, and had a portion of the best 'bitterballen' I know. Very much worth the hassle with diabetes!

We both went home after that, no need for an evening meal after those bitterballen.
The first moment we both have time will be the weekend of 19 july, so hopefully I'll spend a weekend at his place then, we'll see.
On monday and tuesday I had the same food on the bridge, minus the salad and I'd forgotten to bring cheese, but I did have kimchi, which went very well with it.

On tuesday morning the daughter of my neighbour wanted to take the 8 am ferry in Harlingen, so I gave her a ride before work and had time to spare for a fun swim in the waves at the sea!

your sea looks frighteningly cold. Is it warm in the Netherlands? It's +16С here. Not like summer at all
We've had some days in the high twenties and low thirties lately, way too warm for my liking! Back to lower twenties now, which I like.
The sea is around 18 C now, so very enjoyable!

BG is still wanting to stay in the 4's, even with food I usually need some insulin for.
So I just stole a bag of crisps from my neighbour in case I need something to keep my bg up for a bit longer tonight.

This chart still looks like the envy of my life!

your sea looks frighteningly cold. Is it warm in the Netherlands? It's +16С here. Not like summer at all
Temperature here is 14C with 97% humidity. At least the wind has dropped to about 6mph, so it doesn't feel too bad outside. Inside the temperature is 17C - that's because I'm too mean to turn the thermostat up. Rain is forecast for later.

Sea temperature of 18C is not warm enough for me to paddle in, never mind swim.

I wish I could visit you, your part of the world is completely different to anything I know.

What latitude are you at? I thought that if the UK is further south and near the Gulf Stream, then it should be warmer in your country. It's been raining all the time here too for the last 2 weeks.

There are beautiful lakes not far from me (only 120km away), but I am less and less confident that the weather will be warm enough to swim there. Although it is likely that the lake where the purified water from the nuclear power plant drains is quite warm. But the air is still too cold even for light clothes.

North 57.95°. The Gulf Stream does come our way, but the Atlantic wind seems to negate the effect. The mainland just a little south east from us (North 57.76° - 193 km away), is very warm and gardens there grow some wonderfully exotic plants.

You're even further north than I am, it's north 54.7° here, but without Gulf stream. I still hope that the harvest will come in my parents' garden and I will eat my own strawberries this year. Of the exotic plants here, only the Sosnovsky hogweed

Had to look up that hogweed. It looks pretty awful once it gets out of control. Dangerous too.

@Antje77 that wrist sounds like my nan's hand when her arthritis flares up. I couldn't believe how red, hot and swollen it was and wanted her to go to hospital, but she said that's how it goes sometimes . Maybe research around triggers, some don't respond well to tomatoes, aubergines etc.

Glad the date went well, and good spotting of the "overload" signs

@Annb having spent a few days this year admiring the Hebrides from the mainland, we've just booked a small boat wildlife tour for next August. Will pack more appropriately after reading your weather report today. There's a heatwave here, 29°

You'd be very welcome should you ever decide to have your summer break up in these northern climes.
No summer break on the bridge, if anything there's more work during summer season.
But who knows. My life has changed so much during the past year and a half getting used to life without depression, I have no idea what could be possible in the future!
It would be a very long drive (I really don't see myself travelling by any other means than by car), but it would also be in and through places I'd love to see very much, with the bonus of meeting a friend at the end of the road!

Not this year, and I'll need to make some more money first anyway. But maybe...
@Ushthetaff gave me some very interesting ideas on travelling in Scotland as well a couple of years ago, and I'd love to meet him as well.
Oh well, dreams, but maybe not impossible dreams!
