"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

@MrsA2, I am not very tech literate at all so I can only say, I use a mobile phone and a pc and a tablet, nor do I know how to get a private message. I did private message @Estragon a few years ago, but I have forgotten how. I have Diabetes Forum on my pc.
I've sent you a direct message (sometimes called a private message). Whichever device you are reading this on should show a number on top of an envelope icon, up near your "notifications". Click on the envelope and you should find my message. :)

Food yesterday
Can't remember breakfast or lunch (which is mildly worrying!)
Supper was BBQ at sons. Kid did good. Pork steak and lamb kofta with roasted veg, salad and coleslaw. I provided the very watered down wine and an lc raspberry mousse for pud

Today was
B: a leftover raspberry mousse
Walk with a friend
L: ham, lettuce and coleslaw wraps. A mini ice cream
A sleep (putting that down to heat)
Dinner's cooking, roast chicken and roasted Mediterranean veg. Enough for 2 or 3 days as don't want to be cooking anything else.

Today was the 4th day of sauerkraut mash (zuurkoolstamppot), second day on the bridge. So now I have my 'weekend' of two days off. :joyful:

It started with a very nice surprise, a very long online chat on the bridge with Tom (the married man I accidentally fell in love with), who you may remember from last september. I may have kept some boats waiting a little longer than necessary, it's hard to remember you're working while unexpectedly chatting with someone who meant quite a lot, especially because I didn't expect a renewed contact at all.
Very useful too, talking to a witty and intelligent man who reads and can write was such a relief that it made up my mind about Mark, the one who spent the weekend with me. Mark is the sweetest man, but that's not enough, although it may be enough for a good friendship, depending on him. It had been bothering me, how to proceed with Mark, glad I got my answers.

After that, things happened very quickly, and a completely unexpected evening skinny dip after work took place with Tom, followed by two hours spent together in a very enjoyable way!
Likely a one-off, which is fine, he'll be on holiday and my infatuation has thankfully disappeared, but what an amazing start to the weekend!

Tomorrow morning I'll try to not eat the cake on the 25th wedding anniversary of a friend, and I'll have to make a plan for 3 days of food on the bridge starting on wednesday. I may be sailing with someone I've met through that dating site on tuesday which means no time to prepare food.

That's impossible to do 1 emoji for @Antje77 ! so many emotions and events. Think I'll settle for optimistic as you sound very positive about life, even after 4 days of sauerkraut :p
To be fair, I had a lot of smoked sausage and pork belly with my sauerkraut, I'm pretty sure you'd love my 'zuurkoolstamppot' unless you really hate sauerkraut, although perhaps not four days in a row. :hilarious:

Yes, very positive about life even though the larger world has gone crazy, and those emoji ratings on my life are fighting for precedence in my own head as well!
But it was a good day with a wonderful surprise, and the more important bonus of having worked out how to proceed with Mark before things get too complicated. He's a wonderful man, just not the right one for me, but I think I can handle this without hurting him. :)

What an adventurous life you lead, Antje. Not sure I would have the courage - or would have had when I was young enough. But then, I did meet my man when I was 18, so romantic adventures weren't on the cards after that. Wasn't sure if it was a "like", a "winner" or an "optimistic". Probably all three, plus an "admire", if there was one.

First meal today was a herring, a Dutch salted one eaten by holding it at the tail and dangling it above your mouth in the traditional way. I bought two so maybe I remember to take a picture when I eat the next one. :)

An early social thing I needed to attend meant getting groceries without checking the fridge on the way back. While already out my sailing date tomorrow was confirmed, so now I had to plan for two days of food at home and three on the bridge, right after a rather uncomfortable social event. (25th wedding aniversary of my cleaner/friend where I knew no-one and we sat in a circle drinking coffee. Thank heavens her small dog was happy occupying my lap!)

I was sure I had enough of last week's minced meat/veggie/tomato thing in the fridge for two or three days, so that should be the bridge covered, forgot about food for today and tomorrow, except for buying random herrings. :hilarious:
Back home I found out that last week's leftovers were a very small single portion at best, no way to make that last for three days on the bridge. :bag:

Best friend to the rescue, she proposed cooking an easy tomato soup and adding the leftovers, which should make for food on the bridge for at least two days, and one day of improvising is fine if I don't want the same soup for three days! :)

Today's evening meal was two crackers, one with ham, a half with a mild blue cheese, half with a very nice stinky cheese I just discovered at my local supermarket and some very tasty mini tomatoes. :hungry:
Tomorrow will likely be something similar after my sailing date. Perfectly fine, he proposed meeting for lunch in the harbour at 12 before sailing. I checked the menu so now I'm looking forward to a breakfast of gambas in spicy garlic oil, even diabetes should be easy if I manage to keep the bread for dipping to a minimum! :joyful:

The weather is expected to be very hot with barely any wind, so I expect a lot of 'sailing' will be done outside the boat, the best place to be when it's hot is in the water after all.
So no matter if Peter is cool or not, I'll have a wonderful day starting with gambas, followed by swimming and sailing, can't lose!

Monday
Skipped breakfast, then exercise class, some of which was done sitting on chairs because of the heat.
Tea with friends after.
L: pate and coleslaw wrapped in lettuce leaves. Yoghurt with walnuts and 4 strawberries
Mid afternoon, a mini ice cream
D: chicken, mayo and yoghurt with tomatoes and cucumber on lettuce. Pud of 2 sqs hm lc coffee cake with coffee ice cream, splash of rum, splash of cream.

Only excitement of the day was helping a neighbour whose TV aerial had fallen off her roof and was dangling high up. Teamwork produced a long ladder and 2 men. Job done in less than 15 minutes.

I tried to cook meat loaf according to @Antje77 recipe. I thought the egg wasn't enough to keep it from falling apart, so I tried adding psilium instead of flour. I thought it would be delicious and without carbohydrates, but in the end it tasted disgusting and I had to buy a sandwich with a lot of carbohydrates for lunch. But strangely enough, after the sandwich, my bg is 6.6, and after cottage cheese and coffee in the morning (almost without carbohydrates, but with insulin) it was 11. My body is illogical!

I've realised that I'm needing to take more insulin these days than a few weeks ago. This is despite low carb, but not exactly keto. I'm going to have to rethink this diet thing because I don't want to be going back down that road. I think the insulin has a lot to do with the excess weight I'm carrying (and so making other conditions worse) so having to increase it to keep BG down to still not very low levels isn't helping overall. Maybe now I have to make it as close to keto as I can. Not sure if that will cause more kidney problems, or less. I could go down the carnivore route, but not sure that that is completely safe either. Maybe I've just been too quick to grab the RyVita for an easy breakfast recently. Bears thinking about.

Having said that - breakfast today was RyVita with ham and cheese.

2nd meal will be the rest of the chicken with tomatoes and garlic.

Trouble is, I'm very hungry right now and it's far too early to eat anything.

Phew! Another hot day here.
Online pilates first thing
B: 1 small peach and 2 strawberries and yoghurt and milled seeds
Morning of paperwork, inside is cooler than out.
L: a large chunk brie and a packet chicken skins.
Later half a Bounty ice cream bar from village shop as I'd popped out to pick something up.
D: cheddar, roasted peppers. A mini icecream. 2 sqs 85% chocolate.

Not moving around much, too hot.
Running fridge down as away again in a few days.

Breakfast was salmon mayo with two low carb crackers. At least, I thought they were low carb but just to check (after the event, of course) I dug out my magnifying glass and checked the packet - 57g carb per 100g! That's every bit as bad as RyVita. The only good thing is, they are very light so even two of them doesn't give many carbs. I'll have to watch that though. BG is in the 5's at the moment anyway, so it can't have been too bad.

2nd meal is a kind of chowder made with chicken. Not thickened at all, so not proper chowder. Should taste alright though. Just made with veg and chicken poached in ff milk, then finished with cream. Some carbs in the veg, but not much.

Not as hungry as yesterday, despite the carbs.

The medics I have seen indicated that my lchf diet may well have caused the problem with my kidneys, or at least, exaccerbated it (spell check insists there is only one c in exaccerbate, but I disagree). On the other hand I have seen a few videos on YouTube which indicate the exact opposite. What am I to believe? My body, and its demands for insulin, seem to be telling me that the medics here are taking me down a dead end (literally) so it's keto, I think, with maybe a starter of carnivore. Not sure. Not sure.

Yesterday was the hottest 1st of july ever measured in the Netherlands, but instead of being miserable and sitting it out at home with the curtains closed I went sailing with someone I met through that dating site in december. Initially I sent him a short message asking if he'd like to go sailing based on his profile. We wanted to, but the next two months were rain and wind, not what you want when sailing in december.
I forgot about him until a surprise text message asking if I still wanted to go sailing a couple of days ago.

Yes of course!

We knew nothing about eachother except that we wanted to go sailing, which definitely is enough information to head out on an almost empty large lake with a man you don't know. :hilarious:
We had lunch in the harbour first, I chose the gambas, easy on diabetes except for the wonderful bread.
And then we had a wonderful day on the water, just enough wind to prevent overheating as long as I kept my shirt wet with the occasional bucket of water emptied over my head. Neither of us had really thought about food, I only brought licorice in case of hypos, thankfully he brought salty crackers, I needed the carbs because I kept dropping, much easier to handle with crackers than with licorice. Besides, they were very tasty and a real treat! :hungry:

It was a one and a half hour drive so I swapped my usual swimming spot for a more interesting one halfway there, and we had multiple swims throughout the day. :)
Not a date as such, but definitely someone to sail with more often in the future!

Today was a hot day on the bridge with too little sleep because I came home late and it was too warm.
I wanted icecream so I phoned 3 supermarkets to find out if they had the wonderful fruit ice lollies with no added sugar or sweeteners in stock. The third one had two packs left and they were happy to hide one in the back until my break at 4 pm!
Three ice lollies in a pack at just under 8 gr of carbs each, so two more more are in the freezer compartiment of the fridge on the bridge.

Evening meal was a very good tomato soup I cooked on monday and froze, I'll take a picture tomorrow.

Breakfast was some more of the chicken "chowder" from yesterday. That's it finished now.

2nd meal will be beef mince in some form - probably ragout. I was going to make something else with it to keep in the freezer (kind of terrine) but we had a bit of a problem with the shopping this week - Neil hurt his back dong some gardening yesterday and couldn't unload and load the wheelchair from the car, nor could he push me in it to get my leg-wrapping done. In the end my grandson offered to help, but he doesn't drive yet so Neil drove us all into town, B did the lifting and pushing and we didn't bother with the shopping. B works in Tesco, where we do much of our shopping and had only just come in from a night shift there - he had seen enough of that shop for the day.

Aren't I grateful for my family? B and Neil had a long conversation during which they discussed a costume for one of those comic convention things which B is trying to make, which has resulted in Neil offering suggestions and help with that. That was a surprise since Neil usually scorns such things.

Had a carby day yesterday, at 2 social events.
Paid for with tremendous headaches
And the cake wasn't worth it, very dry.

Today
B: 1 cold cooked sausage
Double dancing
L: 2 cold cooked sausages. A mini ice cream
Another headache.
Got car from being mended. 4 figures ! Card was declined because we've just paid for a holiday with it. Had to go home to transfer money, embarrassing!
D: 2 hard boiled eggs
A single malt Scotch

Looking forward to holiday tomorrow

I had the second ice lolly yesterday. They're not only relatively low carb but also perhaps the best tasting ice lollies I've ever had, I'll need to buy more!

Second day of my tomato-with-things-soup, a very nice soup so I'm happy I'll have it for the third day today. :)
Here's yesterday's promised picture:

No ice lolly for me today, my insulin pen is almost empty and I didn't notice so I didn't bring an extra penfill. There should be just about enough insulin left for today though, and I'll have the ice to look forward to when I'm back on the bridge on monday. :)

Tomorrow will be a surprise. Hopefully Tom will come for a quick visit in the morning. :joyful: Then to the beach with 3 dogs and a friend. And I'll have dinner with my aunt, and spend the night there. :)
