"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

My, mostly unproven, impression, is that since about the age of 16, I have surrounded myself with/ gravitated towards neurodivergent people and am probably ND myself. Unlike my husband and daughter I'm not seeking an adult diagnosis as I don't feel I'm struggling at all.

There's quite a bit of autism in my family, including an aunt who had it on her medical notes in the 1950s (v unusual then, especially for a girl) but we didn't know until after my gran died and my uncle found some paperwork. Both my cousin's boys have it, and my mum reckons her uncle was as he was considered quite "odd". (She says the same about me, less affectionately). He also played the clarinet, and according to a recent Radio 3 programme, "neurodivergence is more prevalent among musicians than the general population".

My friendship group from 6th form onwards has consisted mostly of quirky, geeky people. It began with a core of the only 3 girls studying Further Maths and has expanded to include scientists, engineers and IT people. The other "core member" who has children has become very interested in neurodivergence as she's trying to get her eldest diagnosed so he can get support at school.

Maybe I've been lucky, or just made study/ career choices that meant I could stay in a comfortable ND bubble, but I don't feel it's held me back in any way that matters. Yes, I used to argue with teachers, and didn't fit in with the popular clique at school, but I feel I've used my differences to achieve things rather than be crushed by them.

Back on topic, yes, yesterday we did have sushi. Unfortunately I was too tired (possibly a sign) to test BG 2 hours later, so I'll have to try it again sometime- what a sacrifice, in the name of science;)!

Reading through the mentions of Babysham, and Snowballs is bring back some lovely memories of grandmothers at Christmas. I remember Advocaat, for snowballs, being in a cabinet with the best China that also only came out at Christmas.

My mum drinks advocaat year round, without lemonade. (She's not a big drinker, and once the bottle was open for so long it solidified!)

I don't understand the "best china" thing, if you like a pattern, use it every day so it brings you pleasure. My parents had Arabesque crockery for their wedding which came out at Xmas, Easter and dinner parties only. I was astounded when as an adult I visited a friend's house and his mum had the same pattern and used it all the time.

My parents are downsizing and offered it to me but, apart from nostalgia, it's not really me, so I've suggested they sell it on ebay as 70s stuff is having a revival.

I have a lot of "best" china because we bought it in 1965 in Japan. It is very fine porcelain but we fully intended to use it. However, it terrified everyone we put it out for - they were scared of damaging it so it sits there, in the cupboard, a total waste of space and our mt of our usable china comes from a charity shop.

Neil found a box of cups and mugs out in the container. They belong to Alistair but he says he doesn't want them so we can do whatever we want with them. Some of them are really attractive. Em was here this afternoon and I offered to keep them for her, which idea she was very happy with. So - up into the loft they go. No point taking them home - there's no space, which is why Al doesn't want them.
 
Today so far:

Coronation chicken with lettuce. I ate a whole lettuce minus the two leaves that went into hubby's sandwich, they're so tasty at this time of year!

Salmon with tenderstem broccoli, spinach and fried tomato.

A glass of orange juice diluted 50:50 with sparkling water. Figured I'd risk it as I haven't had a refined carb all day, BG was down at 7.5 and I did refuse both a pastry "slice" and luxury pizza earlier, despite the tempting smells rising from the oven. Very refreshing in the heat!

Cold salmon later as I saved a bit to take with meds.
 
Good morning all. Beautiful day again. It's my birthday! 87 years young, going to count backwards on certain years! Had the first eye injection of 6 yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but the stuff they put in to freeze it stung like blazes, for about 2 hours. Hope you all have as good a day as I'm going to have. :singing:

so glad your first eye treatment is over. I couldn't have been as brave as you. Think they would have had to knock me out as I'm not good with procedures. Once again a very happy birthday.

All my life I thought there were no nerves in my eyes, but now I'm more afraid of eye-related diabetes complications. I hope the rest of your day goes well.
