Sorry to hear about the accident with the battery and hope your husband's toe heals rapidly - it must be painful for him. And I hope your rash improves soon so that you both can feel a lot better. Enjoy that takeaway.Hello!
I started a rambly post but it disappeared and I'm too exhausted to type it again, even if I could remember most of it.
I'm certainly not off having an exciting life, being mostly housebound, but recent events of the dull and annoying kind have filled my days and used up my energy I might otherwise spend posting here!
Mostly just eating to survive at the moment, hopefully that'll improve next week.
Yesterday I had
Fried eggs
Smoked mackerel with cucumber, cocktail sausages and coleslaw
Dinner was abandoned due to hubby knocking a lead-acid battery on to his toe, so instead I had some coconut water and marinated octopus
Today I have no idea as hubby is taking it easy and daughter is out. Probably a takeaway, most likely to be kebab.
The worst appears to be over. I managed a soft boiled egg and 2 very low carb crackers about 8 pm. Stomach a bit sore as a result but nothing more serious.BG coming back into pretty tight control now so today's plan was to have one, small, lc cracker with some eggs. However, something (maybe keto flu) has raised its ugly head. Stomach v sore and diarrhea - not sure that those are symptoms of keto flu. Anyway, changed plan to eating nothing but keeping up the fluids - water and black coffee. BG decided to fall into the 3's so I had to put a spoon of sugar into my coffee. That brought it back to a healthier 5.0.
So many aches and pains today and it feels a bit like real flu, although no coughing or sneezing, or wheezing, so I don't think it is. Today is just going to be for resting.
EDIT:
I rested for most of the day, but around 6 pm I thought I could cope with some scrambled egg - everything seemed to have settled, so I felt quite safe. BG had been dropping into the 3's all day so thought I'd better eat something.
I just got the egg out onto the plate when, suddenly and forcefully, the diarrhea came back. Never known it to be so bad! I had to leave the eggs and try to clean up myself, kitchen and bathroom. Took me 3/4 of an hour and I just don't trust myself to be able to eat anything. Took a second dose of Lopiramide and that might have sorted it for now. No idea what this is all about. Had to cut the bandages off of my legs so I'll need to get them rebandaged, but not sure I will be able to go out tomorrow to get it done. If not, my legs will have to go unsupported for a week, until my next appointment. More sitting around with my legs up. Bed now to see if I can sleep.
I'm not sure what to do. At 3.20 am I had to get up - I thought the diarrhea was starting up again, but it was a false alarm, but I was awake by then, so I stayed up. BG has remained at 5.0-5.2 for the last 21/2 hours despite having coffee with milk. It went to that after eating 2 low carb crackers with a boiled egg about 8 pm and soon dropped to 4.5 but stayed there until I got up. It's now 3 days since I took any insulin at all. I know I haven't eaten much but usually, if I go without food, my BG rises (helpful liver?) so the reason for this isn't clear to me.
The question I am asking myself is: "should I take my basal insulin in view of the already lowish numbers". I am feeling well enough to eat a little today - depending on my response to food, of course. I would normally be taking it about 5 am, so, if I am going to take it, I should get on and do so. But should I? Or will that drop BG too low again?
There's no-one here I can ask for advice - we can only get a receptionist on the phone and they don't know anything really. Actually, today, we can't even do that, everything is shut for the weekend. It's not really a question for the 111 service, or the A&E.
3 options:
1 take the Tresiba at the normal dose
2 take half the dose of Tresiba and see what happens
3 don't take anything and see what happens, taking it later if levels start to rise, along with the bolus insulin
As Dusty Springfield had it: "I just don't know what to do with myself.." but I must make a decision soon.
Ah, but the lower number was only after the basal dose was removed from the equation. Anyhow, I took 40u of Tresiba this morning (that's actually 9u less than I have been taking). I had bacon, eggs (2) and tomato with 2 lentil crackers for breakfast. I reckon about 15g carbs in all and took 6u Humalog to cover that. Seems to have worked as BG has been in the 5's all day so far. Not sure if I'll have a 2nd meal - it's very warm and I'm drinking lots of water with chunks of cucumber in it. There's stuff I really must cook but I don't really feel up to it yet - innards still feeling annoyed at something, and legs clicking and clunking as I move around is a bit disconcerting as well. We'll see ....Basal adjustments are usually done by some 10 % increments, and not more often than every 3 or 4 days.
@Annb , it looks like your BG is pretty much perfect, if a tad lower than you'd like. So even if an adjustment is needed, it doesn't make sense to me to think about a huge reduction for only a slightly low number.
Walked an hour to a beach. Was nice cool breeze and sunny. Had planned to swim but so many jellyfish decided just to paddle instead.
Shared a very carby lunch with hubby (note to remember NOT to send him to cafe unaccompanied ever again). One chicken and leek pasty, one saffron bun, one rock cake. I had 2 or 3 bites of each.
Luckily had had an egg and cheese breakfast so didn't need much.
Walked 30 minutes back to favourite beach. Fewer jellyfish but still decided just to stay ankle deep.
40 minutes uphill home spurred in by the thought of the pool, and it didn't disappoint. No jellyfish!
Dinner was bacon and a sausage, bit of cheese and 2 sqs 85% chocolate.
All that exercise and air made me hungry .
