I intend to put some of the cayenne stuff in there, but I'm not quite sure how to deliver it to the container. I used a Pyrex jug last time, which I could use again, but I'm also pondering if when I add the additional beeswax I could do that in the SV bath, the cut the corner off the bag to dispense it (probably with the majority going all over the place!) into the tube.

BG pretty good all day so far - that's on a dish of porridge with cream for breakfast and cheese and RyVita mid afternoon. I was going to make some beef ragout this afternoon but Neil needed help working on the plumbing for the new radiator. I did the best I could - even to the extent of almost falling down the open hatch in the middle of the hall (managed to throw myself forward and pull down a load of coats and a trolley with me). Ouch! That didn't go down well with the aches and pains from yesterday. Luckily, Em came in just after 3 pm, on her way home from school and she immediately made her way down into the sub-floor to help Neil. She was a help too, fetching and carrying tools and buckets, plus hauling buckets of water to the hatch for me to empty. That was because a metal joint collapsed, on the wrong side of the shut off valve, as soon as Neil tried to loosen it. Neil has discovered that, especially since he has had this chest problem, he is not as young as he used to be. Also has quite a lot of extra weight on him since he's been taking Ramipril and his steroid tablets. He would have had to take lots of breaks had Em not been there to help.

So, anyway, no beef ragout. Have some more sausages in the fridge, and some streaky bacon and some eggs. Surely make something with those in reasonably quick time.

At the moment I’m infusing some gin with ginger and lemon zest. Youngest daughter has just told me her boyfriend( who she lives with) is coming for Christmas too. I hadn’t needed to think about a present for him before, but he likes making cocktails so a couple of home infused gins are the perfect gift I reckon. Do you have any killer combos you’ve tried?

Well, my Ginammon is pretty (our little) world renowned. I just break up a cinammon stick, lob it into the gin and set it swimming awhile. Gin with fresh ginger is also nice, as is G&Rhubarb, pear, cucumber or fresh Pineapple. Vodka with star anise is my current fave, but strawberries or raspberries also work and Cranberry is lovely. It retains a real tart edge, although for it, I had already made the cranberries into a coulis, using Stevia to take the edge off the eye-watering sour. Of course, the Cranberry is potentially festive.

Brandy with orange zest is also nice.

Timings? Oooooh,.......... make it up as you go along, but this also might help: https://www.amazingfoodmadeeasy.com...ike vodka, whiskey,wines to be safely infused.

Aside from the cinammom sticks and the star anise, the post infusion fruits are lovely (bit killer alcoholic!) with cream or ice cream for those who indulge. MrB reckoned he'd enjoy a mince pie, with (post infusion) cranberry coulis and clotted cream. (The poor boy hasn't had a single mince pie, stollen bite or anything yet this year!.)

These days I tend to do the infusions in the soda splash as it's even faster than the SV fast track.

Now, of course, we sound like out and out old soaks, but none of these mixtures are made in big batches.

Did some last year, before diabetes, and had it with ginger ale or coke. Any suggestions for mixers this year, I don't like the diet versions. Should I just make it spicier and add soda water?

You might find it fine, just "normal" with soda.

I loved Slade in the 70s and I still do. Wouldn’t recognise MC if I walked past her I don’t think. That’s my end of!

Not my kinda day overall. Woke at 4.11 - fbg fine (waited 20 mins for Swipey to catch up 4.3) made about 4 litres almond milk - good. Peckish by 11.00 but made a huge mistake. Just picked up any old Fatt Bar from the box, discovered it was coconut and macadamia - I don't like either of those but part of the bundle offer. Never again. It gets worse. Julie left the TV on after facetime with S'oton branch - Saturday Kitchen. Mary Berry and Nigella made a bad mood far, far worse - I can't stand either of those. Some interesting wine though. Rick Stein's lamb and sherry just about kept me calm. I need this gym setting up soon even though I am a very placid little boy

Couldn't sleep after 4 am and got up about 4.45 having given up the effort. I knew I would fall asleep again once in the kitchen. FBG 6.5 - for me - quite reasonable.

Eventually had bacon and egg rolled up in a wheat wrap, around 11 am.

Then Neil decided it was time to fix the vacuum cleaner, which we discovered yesterday had loose wires coming from the handle. Cleaning lady hadn't mentioned it but I had to use it last night to clean up all the chalky footmarks in the hall after the work on the plumbing (I do appreciate having someone to clean my floors, especially on the odd occasion when I have to do it myself).

So Neil had all the electrical bits of the vacuum cleaner spread out on the kitchen table and, lo and behold, in walks said cleaning lady - 2 days early this time. She'll come back on Monday - all sorts of stuff still out on the floors, not properly cleared up last night, and anyway, the vacuum cleaner was in bits, so she couldn't use it.

Today I will make the beef ragout, so that will be this evening's meal. But what will I put with it, I wonder. It won't be low carb.

I have noticed that I have put on about 7 lb since going back onto carbs, but BGs are OK. I haven't eaten 7 lbs weight of carbs this week, but the fluid is gathering in my legs again. Complicated, ain't it?

That really brightened my day as well Ian. Thanks so much for that. I not only enjoy traditional carols but a lot of music from the middle ages to the 1800's. Somehow, it all goes wrong for me around the early 1900's. Great Christmas present. I shall keep playing it from now on.
