just to keep you going! Although they are brother and sister they are rarely in the same place, so 2 pictures. It's 18 years ago last week we brought them home at 4 months old. Some previous person had "rejected" them after 3 weeks
They are gorgeous and make me want black kittens even more!

Black cats are lovely. Ours are very difficult to tell apart (only we can). Be careful if getting up in the night - trip hazards.
And to keep you cheered up here is Tzitz, on eof the cats we looked after in Chicago. Not quite black but near enough!

Today started well and was feeling quite smug as I headed into our utility room to get some lamb from the freezer ready to defrost for tonight ...
Shock horror as found the freezer door ajar and warmth coming from it!!!
This freezer houses my home made lc collection, and all our meat and ice cream. All my home grown and foraged summer fruit, about 10-15 kg of it! Several bags of bargain grated cheese I get from Morrisons when they sell kg for a £1 and I then portion it up and freeze.
This is not just a freezer, this is the trophy cupboard of every win, every prize, every squirrelling away of provisions for the winter. Its my pride.
Dumped straight away was my 3 tubs of coffee ice cream, 3 tubs of the boys favourite icecream.
Then I culled the 2 meat drawers. Small things were already defrosted, sausages I had portioned in pairs, individual chicken pieces , the liver and lamb mince
A lamb joint and some blocks of mince seemed OK so they and a few other bits got thrown into garage freezer (bought as a lockdown indulgence a dn so grateful for it now).
The lower shelves carry boys bread (that's OK to refreeze) and were so solidly packed with veg, fruit and cheese they I've taken the chance , shut the door and let it get back to temperature.
Luckily I'd dome an audit of what was I there at the weekend so could just tick off on the list what was OK and what wasn't, and not forget anything important.
Then the marathon cooking began... sausages, chicken, lamb mince Bacon is in the fridge for cooking tomorrow. So much for my nice quiet morning with nothing to do!
I know it's only food but so much was my lc stuff, cake, ice cream, veg mashes, and the meat is so pricey. Having the second freezer means I've managed to salvage most of it. I know from past experience, even though its insured the excess makes it not worth claiming for.
Veg and fruit will just be mushier, not harmful. Think the lc cakes will refreeze OK.
The only thing I'm not sure about is pieces of fish. I don't think they fully defrosted, if at all. Views oh wise ones?

Oh no, what a disaster @MrsA2 !
I'd definitely refreeze and use. For safety I'd try to remember it might not last as long as usual once thawed for use.

What a disaster. At least you salvaged some of it. With the fish, if it was still stiff, it would be OK to refreeze but once it has softened it needs to be cooked before refreezing. Maybe you could make filling for a fish pie or a fish stew and freeze that.

I looked up the address on google earth, and it's a farm.
So much appreciated if you'll all cross your fingers for them being raised mostly indoors with lots of interaction with people. If they turn out to be mostly barn cats I'm not risking it.
Efraïm did his overseeing job well, all the pieces of my fathers floor were cut to the right length so now (after driving 76 annoyingly tiny screws in the slippery and hard floor) I have a real crawling labyrinth in my attic!
I think it's really cool.

It's absolutely nuts, and imagine my friend crawling through it in pitch dark encountering scary stuff to get to her presents!
I'm also looking forward to monday, when my cleaner comes. Someone needs to test my labyrinth so she'll be blindfolded (because I haven't darkened the room yet and I need to see what happens if someone goes through it in case there are parts that don't work), To make up for having to crawl through my attic on hand and knees, she will find a chocolate letter and a bag of chocolate covered pepernoten, so I think she won't mind, it's all part of the job if you're my cleaner.
I'll make a picture too!
I did think of my guinea pigs in the labyrinth as well, but they're not used to being handled so I won't, even though it would be hilarious!

Sinterklaas presents are to come with a poem of course. I can hardly write a poem to myself so I boldly asked my best friend to write me one and send it to me, to be opened when celebrating Sinterklaas with another friend.

The kitten-advising friend on the other hand has grown up in a family with as strong a Sinterklaas tradition as my own, and she does know how to write a decent Sinterklaas poem.

Well, Sinterklaas poems aren't supposed to be high literature, but it does help if it somewhat rhymes and especially if you pay attention to the rythm.
And then there are idiots like me who put the bar a bit higher.
