"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

An hours walk early, followed by some blackberry picking.
Lunch was salad and the inside of half a quiche. Half a fig. Few walnuts.
Afternoon was spent helping put marquees up for village fete tomorrow.
Dinner was roast chicken, cabbage, broccoli and carrot.
Glass white wine.
2 sqs of a lc chocolate, coffee and walnut cake I made yesterday. New (to me) recipe from Caldesi. I made half and didn't add the cream filling or ganache top. It's made with grated apple as the only sweetener so nothing processed. Was light and tasty, maybe didn't need the coffee, one to try again. I reckon the whole thing was less than 50g carbs and I cut it into 14 portions so 3g carb per piece.
Cake sounds good I've got one Caldesi book but this isn't it that one - which is it? Or do you have a link? I did have a look but couldn't find it.

Good luck with your date - just don't open the fridge!
But the meat is in there and I promised him spareribs.
The cold beer is in there too, with and without alcohol but maybe he wants tea and maybe I can sit him safely in the garden before opening the fridge to get the meat out?

If he's any good we'll most likely just have a laugh over my stinky fridge, not worth my time if he can't handle a bit of durian!

Tuesday 20 August - so much for staying on top of things!

B. TAG and a bit of crustless quiche.

L. Marigold vegetable boullion

D. Didn't much feel like anything, so I had a bacon sandwich on SRSLY bread.

Wednesday 21 August - Boys are here for dinner. I didn't really fancy anything again come dinner time.

B. TAG and a bit of crustless quiche.

L. Marigold vegetable boullion

D. Ham and mustard sandwich on SRSLY bread. Vodka and diet coke.

Thursday 22 August. Managed to get to Aqua today and I'm feeling a bit better afterwards.

B. TAG

L. Marigold vegetable boullion

D. Grilled salmon with salad. I made a sauce from Skinny Food Co sweet chilli and tamari soy. Keto Keto banana bread bar.

Friday 23 August. Half day Friday so a bit of running around sorting out various lunches for the boys.

B. TAG

L. Marigold vegetable boullion

D. 2 GF sausages, fried eggs, and a slice of GF haggis. Raspberries and a dollop of cream.

Saturday 24 August - busy day. Hairdresser arriving early for some desperately needed haircuts. Youngest grandson finally decided to part company with his long hair too! Hallelujah! I've been telling Hubby for ages not to go on at him about his hair. In time, he'd decide it was a nuisance, and he did. He's highly delighted with it now.

B. TAG

L. Nothing. I had Hubby to get to football, then shopping, then back for Hubby.

D. LC pasta carbonara. Vodka and diet coke.

Sunday 25 August. Grandson's first swimming outing with his shorter styled hair. He informs me his head feels a lot lighter!

B. TAG and a slice of SRSLY toast with pate.

L. Nothing

D. Campari and soda. An M&S ceaser chicken skewer with salad. I didn't like it. The only thing that tasted as it should was the dressing. Chicken was far too herby.
Raspberries and cream.

I finally discovered at night what had been lurking to make me feel "off" this week. I have gout threatening to flare up in my left foot this time. Fortunately, it hasn't made it to the whole foot yet, so a good dose of paracetamol let me have a reasonable sleep until 6am.

Tomorrow, I reckon I'll be starting on colchicine and adjusting my other meds to suit.View attachment 69509View attachment 69510
food sounds amazing. Funny about your grandsons hair. We had opposite problem both our boys had the most amazing blonde curls and I wanted them to keep them as long as possible. My youngest got really bothered about being called a girl and one day I found him hidden behind settee cutting his curls so we had to go to the hairdressers to sort it out. I've still got some of those glorious curls in a memory box.

Definitely a good first date test.

It's already a good date and he hasn't even arrived yet!

I finally put a cover over my self made couch, looks a lot better without the old mattress look.
I got rid of the worst cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling, some 3 years overdue.
Made the bed.
Did the laundry.
Sweeped the floor.
Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher and wiped the countertop.

So even if the date turns out to be a disaster I still win!

Yesterday a friend gave me a piece of durian so I had a small piece (very tasty!) and put the rest in my fridge. Not low carb at all, but just now I used another piece to prevent a hypo. :joyful:

But what type of luck is it to get such an unusual and hard to get fruit the day before you have a date?
Open the fridge door and a wall of stink comes out, not quite the impression I want to give my date! :hilarious:
Never heard of durian before. Looked online and it looks interesting. What does it smell like that is so awful?

Good luck with the date.

We took Neil to a barber when he was about 3 years old - before that Tom had cut his hair for him. It was during the time when punk hairstyles were popular and, although we had just asked for a straightforward haircut, he got off the chair looking as though he had been shorn using a knife and fork! He hated the experience and told us he would never do that again and he never did. His next haircut was when he was 16 when his cousin, who was a hairdresser cut his lovely shiny, dark brown curls. After that, he never went back to a barber, but cuts his own hair, when he feel the urge. At the moment, aged 57, he has a short pony-tail - a bit thinner and a bit greyer now. I still have the hair that was cut off when he was 16, still soft, shiny and wavy.

Breakfast: a small plate of spicy vegetables.
2nd meal: more of the same but with some cheese over the top.

Lazy day today after going for my diabetic eye screening. Only had the energy to get pushed in my chair into the garden centre to get some new plant pots for potting up some herbs. Came out loaded with them - me carrying all the pots and Neil pushing the chair. That, and the effects of the eye drops, tired me out so I've just slept in the chair all afternoon.

Busy but bitty day. Should have been in a good mood but wasn't for some reason.
Keep intending to fast but failing early each day.
Today had yoghurt seeds and 6 blackberries at 8am.
Physically tiring morning at the village fete.
Popped home for a sit down, ate some salad bits and a nut bar. Had a short nap.
Then back again to help with taking down marquees etc..
Was offered free cake for my help, and accepted! :banghead: (why oh why does my brain have intentions one minute then says or does the opposite the next minute?)
Tea was cold chicken and stilton, and a mini icecream.

New libre started this morning after.er being on 36 hours. Weird patterns, or should that be weird body?

How intriguing! @Antje77. What in the world is durian?

Exactly right @Antje77. If your friend transported the durian to you, the pong cannot be empty-a-shop strength.
Your date can handle it.

I hope you identified the uninvited tennants on the bathroom ceiling @Antje77 before you evicted them!
Btw, you swept the floor. (It's a pesky irregular verb).

Hope you had a lovely evening in great company.

The pong is definitely empty-a-shop strength! (Are you testing my grasp of English idiom again? That was a very hard sentence to understand until I broke it down to 'oh, empty-a-shop strength actually makes sense', which left me with doing a double check by googling 'pong smell'. :hilarious: )
My friend didn't have a choice, he has a Thai partner who doesn't take no for an answer. Good thing my friend likes durian!

I knew that, and something seemed off when I wrote it. But my date was arriving as I wrote so no time to go over it again before posting.
I have absolutely no idea how I get your irregular verbs right as a rule, they say you can only learn them by heart because they don't follow logic. It's not true, there is a logic even if I don't know what the logic is or I wouldn't get it right most of the time.
Never heard of durian before. Looked online and it looks interesting. What does it smell like that is so awful?

I'm not sure how to describe the smell, it's somehow both attractive and revolting, and it's strong enough to be forbidden on public transport in countries where it'regularly eaten.
The fruit itself tastes very nice, some hints of banana and pineapple, not sure how to describe.
The date was fun!
Tom turned out to be an historian teaching people to become history teachers, with a specialisation in journalism and statistics. Currently he's working on a project called something like 'thinking on democracy', which combines philosophists through the ages with contemporary stuff, sounds very interesting.
Not sure he'll be any good tomorrow working on the preparation of those lessons, he left at 2 am, had an hour drive to get home, and another hour at least to get to work tomorrow. I wish him good luck!

True to his promise we went for a swim after a beer, and then started the barbecue and a fire to get warm again, he was shivering.
I offered him a woollen vest, but no. I don't think he stopped shivering until he left, we spent all night in the garden, talking, eating, even a bit of cuddling.
All in all a very good if odd date, and lots of interesting conversation. :)

Food's going to a bit hit and miss today (when is it not?) because my hands and feet are playing up again and I can't easily stand, walk or hold anything. Food will have to be near at hand and ready just to eat without doing anything to it. That sound like cheese to me, if I can get slices off the block of cheddar - the only one in the kitchen - the rest are in the back porch fridge.

Very little sleep because of the "toothache" in my hands, arms and fingers. Gave up at 02.50 because my feet and hips were jumping on the bandwagon. It was a struggle to get to the kitchen where my painkillers are kept but I made it. They took 3 hours to make any difference at all, and then wore off after 4 hours. Just took some more and we'll see how long that takes to work. Keying text on the PC is helping a bit to loosen my fingers, although it still hurts, a lot. A bit haphazard on hitting the keys, so I have to keep making corrections. If I've missed any, apologies.

Doesn't help things that my BG is somewhere in the 13's. Somewhere because my Libre sensor seems to have dropped off, I can't open the packet for a new one, nor can I used the finger prick test because my hands are too painful to stab them. Also couldn't open a new needle this morning, so had to use yesterday's one for my basal dose. Still sharp though so I got it through this tough hide I seem to have developed.

When Neil surfaces (2nd time - he already got up to put the dustbin out for collection) I'll get him to fix things for me so that I can use them. He might have to put the sensor on for me as well as getting it out of the packet.

I see, so it's empty-a-train-carriage strength @Antje77; that's a powerful odour!

We once took a very stinky stilton cheese on a train journey. We'd been staying with my parents in law who had bid for and won a whole stilton at a farmers auction. it was a brilliant price but very very aged - and exceptionally sweaty socks smelly!
We took a huge bit back home on a hot day. Lots of people shifted carriages ! I remember it tasted good though despite this experience being around fourty years ago....
