"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

My departed brother went to Thailand twice a year with his golfing friends. Yes, he tried durian fruit but described the smell as rotting flesh! I wondered how he knew the odour of rotting flesh?

Monday 27 August. I am now into a full-blown gout flare -up. It is just the big toe on my left foot, but it's nasty. I got started on colchicine, but it will be about Wednesday before I get any noticeable improvement. Hubby has had to take over food production. I'm still transporting the boys back and forward, but only because it's a short distance to the car and back. I don't need my left foot to drive an automatic. It's still agony though.

B. Just TAG and Benecol dairy free

L. Marigold vegetable boullion. Hubby made me a SRSLY toastie with ham and vegan cheese. The vegan cheese was an accidental purchase. I just saw Cathedral City mature extra large slices for sandwiches. My eyes totally ignored the very large V on the pack. However, it's the best vegan cheese I've tasted and it doesn't stink!

D. Not much. The remains of yesterday's salad bowl with 1/2 boiled egg and mayo.

Lots of water was consumed. My vodka or gin is off the menu for a while. I had to cancel my Aqua and the chiropodist. Anyone touching my toe was a no no.

Glad the date went well @Antje77. He does sound interesting.
Sorry for the ailments @Annb and @maglil55 ..

A better day here. I had an almost sleepness night just "overthinking everything" and watching the Libre. I was 4s and 5s nice straight lines all night!!! Go figure.
Had a cup of mint tea and 2 small slice hm lc soda bread at 4 a.m.
2 scrambled eggs at 9
Double dancing.
Lunch was lettuce roll ups with rocket, cream cheese, salami and roasted peppers. A mini ice cream.
AA man here as car wouldn't start. Just a new battery, thank heavens.

Then bliss, time to listen to a podcast in the garden. Of course I fell asleep so didn't finish a whole one. One particularly interesting on eggs and cholesterol., suggesting its in genes whether they raise cholesterol in certain people and not in others. Must relisten to the whole thing soon.

Tea was a medley of mushrooms, chorizo, courgettes 4 cherry tomatoes a bit of roasted peppers and avocado and chicken. Coffee icecream

Hope your gout improves quickly and you are able to enjoy things like your aqua again soon.

Let's hope both of us have a better nights sleep tonight I was on the thinking shift last night too but usually sleep really well the following night. Once you get in that cycle it's hard to shift it. Reading usually work but did three reading sessions last night and didn't work as well. Still I dealt with some stuff today and that will help too. Anniversaries don't help either and tomorrow it's two years since mum died.

The pong is definitely empty-a-shop strength! (Are you testing my grasp of English idiom again? That was a very hard sentence to understand until I broke it down to 'oh, empty-a-shop strength actually makes sense', which left me with doing a double check by googling 'pong smell'. :hilarious: )
My friend didn't have a choice, he has a Thai partner who doesn't take no for an answer. Good thing my friend likes durian!

I knew that, and something seemed off when I wrote it. But my date was arriving as I wrote so no time to go over it again before posting.
I have absolutely no idea how I get your irregular verbs right as a rule, they say you can only learn them by heart because they don't follow logic. It's not true, there is a logic even if I don't know what the logic is or I wouldn't get it right most of the time.

I'm not sure how to describe the smell, it's somehow both attractive and revolting, and it's strong enough to be forbidden on public transport in countries where it'regularly eaten.
The fruit itself tastes very nice, some hints of banana and pineapple, not sure how to describe.
The date was fun!
Tom turned out to be an historian teaching people to become history teachers, with a specialisation in journalism and statistics. Currently he's working on a project called something like 'thinking on democracy', which combines philosophists through the ages with contemporary stuff, sounds very interesting.
Not sure he'll be any good tomorrow working on the preparation of those lessons, he left at 2 am, had an hour drive to get home, and another hour at least to get to work tomorrow. I wish him good luck!

True to his promise we went for a swim after a beer, and then started the barbecue and a fire to get warm again, he was shivering.
I offered him a woollen vest, but no. I don't think he stopped shivering until he left, we spent all night in the garden, talking, eating, even a bit of cuddling.
All in all a very good if odd date, and lots of interesting conversation. :)
When two people spend most of the night locked in interesting conversation @Antje77, (even though one is shivering), that's a promising start.

It's a start and an end in one. No attraction except for an intellectual one and a little bit of it's good to have a good long hug from someone you like as a person. And with him being married and us having met through a dating site there is little room for friendship without it looking wrong from the partner's side if she finds out.
I had a lovely and unconventional date anyway, it was a very nice adventure. :)

Today was for trying to save nine little ducklings.
They are about a week old and suddenly they have trouble walking. First search result on google suggested it could be a lack of vitamin B3/niacine bcause they are eating chicken food, not duck food.

So off I went right before closing time to get duckling food and a pot of brewer's yeast, which aparently contains high concentrations of niacine.
Then I sent Astrid and Tale (his ducks after all) a text message resulting in the three of us and Astrid's 16 year old daughter playing a hilarious duck catching game. :hilarious:
The ducklings were easy, the mum not so much but we did win in the end.
They are now in a small pen so they can eat their special food and brewer's yeast, fingers crossed we're treating the correct problem.
They're painfully cute, let's hope they'll survive!

Didn't eat yesterday. Too difficult so just had drinks - tea, coffee and chicken bouillon - all day.

I will try to organise some food today but not sure what. So far it has only been tea - I can make that with just one operational hand. Luckily my right hand has improved somewhat and I am right handed.

English is an odd language, and if there is any logic in it, Antje, I can't see it. It is a mixture of Middle English, French, Latin, Dutch, Greek and goodness knows what else. The rules are also a mixture, or development of all of those. It isn't even a matter of "if it sounds right..." I was thinking about one word while trying to sleep on Monday night. I had used the word "hence" in a post and it seemed correct to me at the time, but was it? Hence can mean "as a result or therefore" but it can also mean a specified time in the future (2 weeks hence/henceforth), or a place ("get thee hence"). This led me to think of the confusion some of my students used to have between "there" and "their". I used to remind them that the 3 words "there", "where" and "here" were all words about place. But I realised that "wherefore" is not about place but asks "why?" Then again there's "whither", "thither" and "hither". I think Gaelic is a difficult language to learn, but English must be even worse for a non native speaker.

Been out since 14.15. 2 appointments to go to. I'd dozed off and woke at the last moment so missed out on food. So it was back to the chicken bouillon after all. By the time I got back I was feeling pretty nauseous so have only had a cup of tea to get it under control.

First appointment was the optomotrist who gave me a diagnosis of something she couldn't pronounce and I couldn't understand. The symptoms are of ocular myasthenia, but that wasn't what she called it. Nothing to do about it unless my eyelids droop so much that I can't see past them. I might not last that long, so not worth worrying about.

2nd appointment was with the podiatrist. Feet much more comfortable now and I've discovered that they do home visits. I'll be using that service in future.

Another of your days @Antje77 where there are not enough emojis, even I there were suitable ones!!! :D:D:joyful:

Had a day out today.
Had thought of a pub lunch but getting so fed up of lack of decent low carb options, that we stopped at supermarket and bought items for picnic instead.
Hard boiled eggs, rollitos and cream cheese balls ,mostly for me, sandwich and sausage rolls for Hubby. Beer can for him, small bottle of wine for me. (I kept adding water to it and finally finished it this evening).
Went to a pleasant and not too busy NT property. Had picnic under a tree by a lake. Then round the house and a single scoop of icecream in a tub to finish a lovely day.

Not been hungry this evening so skipping until tomorrow. Bit hard as Hubby keeps encouraging me to eat, and eating in front of me, but I do want to get back to losing some weight and am grabbing this opportunity.

Ps he doesn't do it intentionally, he just can't comprehend not eating at set times. We really are from different planets.

Hi all. I went on a mystery tour on Monday and we ended up at Stratford-upon-Avon. I had never been there before so was quite excited. It was like being at a seaside resort on a really hot summer day during the school holidays! It was absolutely heaving with people and we spent so long trying to find somewhere to eat that we never made it to the river or Ann Hathaways cottage. But I enjoyed every minute. The next coach trip is to Meadowhall in November. Looking forward to that too. :joyful:

I love Stratford but always take a picnic to eat by the river or buy low carb treats from M and S.

Good idea to buy a picnic it's easier to make individual food choices. It is hard 're the meal times. My husband has very fixed ideas on eating times and can't miss meals. It does make it hard at times but he's become accepting of me not automatically having a meal with him and over time has stopped encouraging me to eat if I have said I'm going to skip or miss a meal for whatever reason.

Thank you for sharing this lovely photo @Antje77. Fingers crossed they all pull through.

We lost one tonight, likely the one who almost drowned in the water bowl last night.
We thought we had put in a safe water bowl, but with the dysfunctional legs they could get in but not out, and when I discovered, three of the ducks in the bowl looked still fine, the 4th one looked almost drowned. I did dry it, tried to warm it up a little and gave it some sugar water before returning it to it's mum but I guess it was too far gone.

Surprisingly, the other 8 are still alive, and after saving ducklings from bowls multiple times today I think they now have a safe drinking bowl.
Still, not getting my hopes up, they're very sorry looking ducklings. Whatever happens, we tried our best.

A cup of tea and a thin slice of ham so far today. Had to rush about to go for my bandaging session early today (because Princess Ann is visiting the Island and roads will be closing mid morning) and to get my vaccination.

I might manage to do something later, when I've recovered a bit, because I have working hands again! Still sore, but if I'm careful, not too painful.

I'm actually hungry right now so will think about having a proper breakfast shortly. Bacon and eggs probably.

Later will have to check and see if things in the fridge are still in reasonable condition for eating, or if I need to get something out of the freezer.

Weighed myself this morning and despite the sparsity of food in the last days, I'm still heavier than I was 2 weeks ago. A bit lighter than last week though.

The joys (NOT) of gout foot! When I first used this on the flare-up over a year ago, they recommended putting it in the freezer. Big mistake! I was close to being scraped off the ceiling. This time, it went in the fridge. Must more pleasant on the inflammation. I made the mistake of going to get some shopping yesterday. Big mistake. I was crippled again when I got back. As usual, the disabled spaces beside M&S were full of badgeless 4x4s.
The inflammation should start to subside in a couple of days. 20240829_184619.jpg

I used the there - here, a place, their - heir, belonging to, the explain the difference to eldest grandson. The other one - they're, I told him just to remember "attack of the apostrophes." It's a contraction of they are.

You're correct, though. It's a nightmare language.

Tuesday 28 August. I decided the wise thing to do was cancel all activities/appointments this week. So rebooted chiropodist, physio, cancelled all Aqua and swimming. I'm walking minimum distances, or at least trying to. Hubby thinks I should up my colchicine dosage. It's difficult, though, working around my other meds. Food is variable, as Hubby is having to cope with it.

B. TAG and Benecol dairy free

L. Marigold vegetable boullion

D. A bacon sandwich on SRSLY bread. Fresh cherries.
Lots of water.

Wednesday 29 August - boys were here for dinner, so I forced myself to go to M&S as grandson tells me their GF steak pie is the best (plus steak pie, fries, peas is easy for Hubby.

B. TAG and Benecol dairy free

L. Vegan cheese and ham toastie on SRSLY bread.

D. Fishy thing I got in M&S - prawns in a thermidor sauce. It's very tasty. Keto Keto Banana bread bar.

Thursday, 30 August.

B. TAG and Benecol dairy free

L. toastie with vegan cheese & ham on SRSLY bread.

D. A real test for Hubby! Air fryer GF sausages and black pudding. Fried egg took two attempts. I'm going to have a couple of fresh figs. Not an ideal choice, but I love them.

Lots of water goes without saying.

Meant to say @Annb , niece is in Barra this week. She likes her B&B couple in Uist so much, she seriously considered staying in Uist and taking the ferry back and forward to Barra. Common sense prevailed. She is staying in Barra.

I think this is her last trip to the islands for this year.
