"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

B: yoghurt seeds and blackberries
Then a quick trip to local farmers market for more cheese

L: a sort of chaffle thing, 2 eggs a large tablespoon grated mozzarella and a tablespoon ground almonds, cooked in frying pan. Would have been better to do it in 2 lots as difficult to turn but still tasted OK.

Then door wreath making and a few family duty phone calls.

A drive round local area to see some Christmas lights. I so rarely go out after dark these days it was quite a treat

D: salmon with 6 chips, spinach and green beans. 3 gingerbread hearts (yes did spike bg, but was planned for)

Fingers crossed i can get all the veggies I need tomorrow , think I may have left it late
I hope you do manage to get all the veggies you need. The shops here are, reportedly, chaos but Neil has just gone to get a few essential bits and pieces - no point going tomorrow. Today might be a wash out though because the ferries have been off due to the gales. The main things needed are milk and strong white flour (for Neil's bread).

Breakfast was bacon and eggs. I managed to break both eggs, which I hate doing.

2nd meal will be Brussels sprouts with chestnuts and cranberries.

When Neil came home I asked how the shops were. "Full of people. Empty shelves!" was his only comment before disappearing to his room. Later he came back and, when I asked again, he said he had bought the essentials, including one bottle of milk for me and a bag of flour for himself, plus some non-essential cream and smoked salmon for me and a prescription, but not the one I was waiting for. I'll ask Alistair to try again for that tomorrow.

Just making some cranberry conserve to put into little pastry parcels with brie for Alistair. Later will make lentil and cheese loaf for him as well. He's going to be busy cooking the meat dishes plus sides for everyone else and won't take time to do his own, if I know him. His plan was to make a salmon and spinach pasty but I don't suppose he will. If he does, it will all keep for a few days in the fridge.

Did get all the vegs, and all in the one shop. No problem at all, loads available . Went 1 pm but hear from friends it was busier earlier.

The lamb for tomorrow is sitting in its dry rub ready for slow cooking.
The turkey has defrosted a day early so is taking up space in the fridge ( was supposed to still be in the unheated garage!)
Lists made of what to defrost when.
Yet to do timetable Christmas day, always use Delia for that.

Very pleased to say my mood has lifted after facing some demons yesterday. Tomorrow is both my son's birthday and the 1st anniversary of my sisters death so bit of emotional roller coaster.

Had a couple of food lessons today, both of which I knew but somehow needed to see the Libre results to stop me hoping maybe my body can cope with carbs... but no same results as when I've tried before. Both pastry and gingerbread can no longer enter my mouth. And there was me hoping for a Christmas miracle :banghead:
D: was steak with cabbage and leek and a whisky

Thank you @RosemaryJackson, hope you have a lovely time with your family.
Just been out to collect the turkey, the last item safely stashed in the fridge. Not going out again now, what we don’t have we will do without. SIL and BIL arrive later with 2 dogs, one of whom is a Romanian rescue so will need to make sure everything edible is well out of the way
Happy Christmas and peaceful and healthy New Year to everyone in this lovely corner of the internet. Stay strong everyone, you really don’t need that piece of cake :D

Latish breakfast because, I think, I've eaten too many Brussels sprouts over the last few days with fairly explosive effects. Decided eventually to have some slices of ham.

2nd meal can't be vegetable so maybe some scrambled egg.

One way or another I will have to cook that big piece of beef tomorrow, whether I eat anything or not.

I shall have a very quiet Christmas but hope everyone else has a great time over the holiday. Happy Christmas all.

I spent the afternoon in the swimming pool with a friend, some laps, but mainly enjoying the slides and waves and such.
And I thought, hey, it's Christmas eve, it's early enough to give me time to get things right after a rare swimming pool treat way before bed, let's do this!
So I not only had chips (with mayo, peanut sauce and raw onions, Dutch thing, very delicious), but I also had a 'kaassoufflé' (carby, breaded, cheesy deep fried thing, also Dutch).
It was glorious, and with the help of some vigorous lap swimming after I even managed to stay in range, if not the tight range I'm used to, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
It also showed me I'm really too lazy to try things like this too often, way too much work. Maybe again around next Christmas. :hilarious:

Tomorrow will be the traditional Christmas meal with my uncle and aunt. Uncle does the food, and it's always very good. :joyful:
In theory there is enough of everything to skip the high carb parts, but in real life I'll want to try everything, and it adds up with so many dishes. So I'll wing it and I'll likely see some unusual numbers, which is fine on Christmas.

It will be a very interesting and adventurous Christmas this year too.
Not sure if I told you, but the oldest son of my cousin (18 - 20 years old I think, still living at home) told me in novemer he'd really like to have a go preparing a turkey from scratch. So starting with the live animal.
We happen to have way too many turkeys...

Earlier this week I sent him a text message to ask if he was sure, and he was, so tomorrow I'll drive there a bit earllier than usual to give him time to clean his Christmas present.
He has a mild form of autism, and I sure hope he told his grandparents he plans to kill and clean a turkey in their garden tomorrow or they might be in for a surprise. :hilarious:
Either way, this will be an adventure (if an unlucky one for the turkey)!

Turkeys are very easily caught once they've gone to roost for the night. Neighbour Tale selected and painted one earlier, and simply snatched it off the edge of the roof where they sleep.
So now I have a turkey in my car waiting for Christmas.
No idea how ridiculous stuff always happens to me but I'm not complaining!

My dogs weren't fazed at all when Tale came into the living room with a live turkey, they just kept begging for dog treats.

Only you, darling @Antje77, could provide an untoppable Christmas story.
Half of me is desperate to hear the outcome, half of me doesn't :D :D

Mostly cooking and pottering today.
Skipped breakfast but ate the veg from boiling the ham (onion, carrot, celery) and soem cheese and seedy crackers, few olives.
D: was sons birthday celebration of lamb shawarma with lettuce and cucumber raita. Boys had theirs in wraps. The lamb was a triumph, having sat in a dry rub for 24 hours them slow cooker for 10 hours, really fell apart and tasty.
Later some hm lc tiramisu.
Some red wine and later a small rum.

At least I now know my uncle and aunt are fully prepared of having their grandson turn a turkey into a meal.
I called them to ask if I could bring my dogs, and to tell them I may or may not want to spend the night, but my aunt picked up the phone with: "Have you caught the turkey yet?"

Apparently my nephew has extensively researched how to deal with a turkey over the past few weeks, and has bored everyone with all his new knowledge.
So yesterday he went over to his grandfather to sharpen (already perfectly sharp) knives, I have a feeling my nephew is perfectly prepared and my uncle is ready to step in if needed.

I'm sorry @MrsA2 , you will hear the outcome whether you want it or not. :angelic:
I'll stick to pictures of our meal though, no fear!

Thinking of @Riva_Roxaban now, he would have had some interesting comments on the matter, and he likely would have given the mod team a headache with his comments too. :hilarious:
Almost two years already since we lost him, but it's good to remember.

Agree. it's good to remember, even though sad. Doesn't seem like 2 years somehow.

I hope you all enjoy that turkey and that you, and your family (including the prospective butcher) have a very happy Christmas.

Crofters tend to be hardy types but it is common here for crofters who are slaughtering their stock will exchange theirs for someone else's because they don't want to eat an animal they have reared and cared for. At least you don't have to eat your own turkey.

My beef is cooked and resting under foil and a towel, broccoli with orange done and cauliflower cheese in the oven. Not actually feeling very much like eating at the moment but I may force myself to have a little of it in a while. Must, however, go easy on the cauli and broccoli. Don't want a repetition of the Brussels sprouts incident. I also have a big jar of spicy cranberry conserve to use before it goes off. I don't think it will go with the beef though. I put too many chili flakes in it anyway.

Someone gave me chocolate for Christmas - Black and Green's dark chocolate but my BG has now spiked because I couldn't resist.

Hello all. I'm at home for Christmas after all. My daughter-in-law has gone down with a very nasty flu bug so Christmas with them is out of the question. She is never ill so this is a real surprise, I have never known her to stay in bed and sleep all day ever. I have a lamb shank for my dinner but am not feeling like I want it so am going to have some scrambled eggs instead and have the shank for tomorrow. I must admit to having 2 mince piesbecause I was a bit fed up. Hopefully back on the wagon. Happy New Year everybody. :)
