"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Managed to avoid breakfast today, even though there was no early yoga.
L: celery, leek and Stilton soup (hm lc). 10 cal jelly with double cream. 2 nut bars (was still very hungry)
2 hour walk, very slippery in the mud.
Mid afternoon, a lc coconut macaroon, 2 thin slices ham
D: Cooked by hubby!!! Shakshuka with eggs and chorizo. Was absolutely gorgeous. 2 glasses red wine.
Later 1 sq 85% chocolate

I know what you are saying @MrsA2, but knowing what happened to my 51 year old daughter makes me try to be more careful. On a cheerier note, we went to the panto last night and laughed the whole way through. It was wonderfully funny. The panto was about **** Turpin the notorius highwayman who was around in the 17 hundreds. When I wrote that that was my next event, someone 'starred' out his first name. I find that a bit sad because I cannot, for the life of me, see how his name, after all these years, can offend anyone. Yes, he was christened Richard but was never known as such.

On this forum there is an automated system with a list of words that get asterisked. Mostly useful, we do get some crazy people and spammers on the forum. Sometimes ridiculous and annoying.
Be sure there's not a person behind this, if a post gets edited by a moderator you'll always get an alert to inform you.

And how wonderful you had such a good night! :)

Breakfast - the lazy way out again - ham and RyVita.

2nd meal - another lazy one - the left-over beef and broccoli cooked in orange juice from yesterday.

There are so many things I want to do - projects to work on/finish off, but I never seem to get around to them. Too tired, or too lazy. Not sure which.

Just got some chicken out of the freezer to make some ****-a-leekie soup for tomorrow. Hoping to raise the energy to chop the leeks.

EDIT: I thought it would do that ****, but couldn't be bothered to key the name of the soup in in some other form.

Skipped breakfast
Walk with a friend. Called in on another who is getting despondent over the actions of his recently adopted rescue dog. Nice dog, testing obedience boundaries but gets very anxious when left alone.
They came back here for a coffee and she was very good. We're going to see if she'll get used enough to me to have me stay with her sometime. Poor guy can't even put petrol in his car, even if she's in it as she gets so stressed.

L: leftover shakshuka.
Then my downfall. Had to do some full carb baking ready for senior club on Tuesday . Ate 2 whole slices :banghead:

D: not really hungry but had to cook for hubby so ended up with roast chicken and 2 spoonfuls broccoli and leeks.

You can always chop them at any moment you've got a bit of energy, even the day before, no need to do it right before cooking.
I often chop earlier in the day so when it's time for cooking things are ready to use.
That's what I usually do but sometimes energy levels are so low, there isn't a time when I can do the prepping for a meal. That's when a pack of ham or some ready grated cheese (I use a machine and do it by the boxful) comes in handy. I was going to make the effort today to chop the leeks, but didn't, so will try to do it first thing tomorrow - well, at least in the morning sometime. I have some cooked cabbage which I might be able to use for breakfast - maybe if I put some bacon with it, it would do a turn.

Thank you Antje. I really did think there was someone behind it! That makes me look like an idiot when I think logically lol! No need to be sorry @MrsA2, I am a bit hard on myself, not only because of my daughter, but because I won't take medicine for it. And yes, I had a fantastic evening laughter all the way through. Ohhh yes I did! And @Annb, when you have the energy to prepare some veg, could you perhaps do a few extra and stick them in the freezer to get out when you feel poorly?

You must have thought our moderators were quicker than lightning speed! (And quite crazy about following rules.) :hilarious:
Much better now you know it's just the stupid software.
D*ck de C*ck is a very common name in my country. Let's hope none of them will develop diabetes and try to join the forum...

Well, I left the chopping of the leeks until this morning - chopping and washing, of course. So what happened? Our water went off! No water to wash the leeks and no water to make the soup. Grrr! Left the tap open to collect the few trickles left in the pipe (we are at the bottom of a small hill, so we get the last of the water in the pipe) and managed to gather about 2 litres for drinks and taking pills until it comes on again.

Breakfast, as a result: more RyVita with ham and some grated cheese.

Hoping the water comes back on so I can make the soup later.

Intending to chop the leeks and some other veg and store in boxes in the fridge for later use @RosemaryJackson. I feel that I might manage that today since my left hand is in much better state today and I can hold things with it. I think it is arthritis, but don't know why it comes and goes.

Well, it's taken me all day to do it, with lots of breaks to let my aching bones and joints have a rest, but I have lots of veg shopped ready for use - enough for 4 or 5 meals, The water is back on, not long ago, so finally got to wash the leeks and put on my c*ck-a-leekie soup. Shouldn't take too long. Poached a couple of chicken breast in the soup to set aside for another meal with some of the veg, while I was at it. Now I'm shattered but hope I'll be up to having the soup when it's done.

Really like the sound of mixing red wine with warming type spices. I love organic ginger and turmeric infusion (tea without any tea in it!) and think I may brew some tomorrow and add to a small amount of red wine to help reduce total wine consumption and also may enjoy it more - my experiment for tomorrow! Thank you for the idea.

Thank you!

It's much warmer today so the ice is starting to melt. I still had to break it to get in though, but I expect tomorrow I can swim again instead of just dipping in the hole I made. :)
The wet ice made for a stunning reflection of the trees!

Today I worked on adjusting my duvet cover, which should have been finished days ago but I'm simply too good at procrastinating. Almost done!
Also some panicky cleaning, date Hans will be visiting tomorrow. :)
The cleaning will have to be finished tomorrow morning, I'm about to go to the film with a friend. "A Complete Unknown", about Bob Dylan, I heard good things about it so very much looking forward to it!
Wow, this was only thursday, seems a very long time ago!
Swimming has been without ice since. I skipped today, I thought my cleaner was coming on thursday, but no, there she was standing right next to my bed this morning. Enough of a shock to wake me up, no need for cold water!
My bed is an old fasioned 'bedstee', a bed in a closet in the living room. With both of us being in this living room getting dressed was pretty awkward, but also very funny. She didn't seem fazed so I decided that simply fiddling with bra and underpants as normal was the best way to proceed and keep my dignity. :hilarious:
That film is on my must see list too - it's got very good reviews and Bob Dylan still one of my music heros!
Enjoy your date - hope it goes well.
The second date with Hans on thursday was very enjoyable. Not a keeper but as long as we both agree on that, no reason to not enjoy a good conversation, sharing of landscape pictures through whatsapp, and some intimacy.

I can fully recommend seeing the film, I was pretty impressed! Even with the music, all actors sing their own songs, and although for a hardcore Dylan lover like myself something was missing, it also came very close and hit a string. I loved the way the early 60's were pictured and I think it's pretty realistic.

On saturday I had a very long and very enjoyable day. :)
I got to pick up my new duvet in Amsterdam, a 2 hour drive. I decided to take a small detour to swim in salt water instead of fresh on the way. I love swimming in the sea!
I brought my own two dogs and the very old, olmost blind and almost deaf sleepover dog with me, and even she had a good time despite the rain,

Then it was off to Amsterdam to pick up my duvet.
When I was 13, I got a down sleeping bag for Sinterklaas from the same 1 man company. As most of you know by now, Sinterklaas presents come with poems, so I went through 40 years of Sinterklaas poems to find it so I could show it to Peter, the owner of the store. I think it's the meanest and coolest poem I've ever received, and it goes just as well with my new duvet. He thought it was amazing I had a 35 year old poem on one of his sleeping bags, and he gave me a piece of the art project he's working on in return. :)

My English isn't good enough to keep rhyme and rhythm when translating but I can at least translate the meaning, it's truly horrible and wonderful, my father was this Sinterklaas when I was 13:

We are the geese from the North.
Things were getting to cold for our likes
"Where shall we go?", and we heard
That Alders [Dutch minister at the time] is protecting us.

"We'll fly to the Flevopolder
We'll be free there", sang the geese.
"It says so in the government handout
Available at the post office."

We took off in a beautiful V-shape
From the cold North Pole Ice.
With the wind in our back, a perfect storm!
We were filmed by someone called Tijs [father of my best friend who won a prize for his documentary on geese on Spitsbergen]
(He even won a prize)

We decended after two weeks
On the Die close to Holysloot
There was a man with a gun
Who killed us all.

We were the geese from the North.
We once had a soft coat.
Until they killed us for our down...
Sleep well Antje, goodnight.

And on I went to visit my aunt. She's the almost blind one who needs a walker and has lung cancer. Which is why she wanted to give me such a ridiculously expensive present, it has to be good for many more birthdays to come without her.
Hardly seeing a thing doesn't stop her from being an amazing cook (see, I'm not off topic, just a little long winded!) and she fried us a beautigul fat sole for a late lunch!
A very tasty salad to go with it, and cheese for dessert. No insulin needed, my aunt is amazing in the kitchen.
She also has diabetes (T2) and is happy with her hba1c in the 50's or low 60's now she's dying anyway, but she's one of the very few people outside this forum who knows about numbers, so I was very happy I could share my lab results, which came back at 29! (Wish me luck with my yearly date with the diabetes nurse on wednesday on this one... I already know my endo will likely be very happy, but I haven't seen this nurse in two years. I hope she's comfortable with time in range.)

On my way back to Friesland I went into Amsterdam again to get some Indonesian take away. You can simply choose your dishes and take them in small containers, payed for by weight. So no rice included unless you choose so, I absolutely love this and I wish there was something like it where I live.
Then driving back, the second half with thick fog, and I was too tired to make the last adjustments to my duvet cover, and no need for a proper meal after that lunch.

But yesterday I finished the cover, and I had half of my Indonesian food, which was heavenly!
Sleeping was amazing as well, my new duvet feels so good! :joyful:
Today was the second half of the Indonesian food, very friendly on my diabetes too.

I'll be truthful and admit I'd let a cup of lemon and ginger tea go cold (I often drink it cold) and the wine was a bit rough so I mixed the 2 together. Was quite pleasant but don't go telling any wine buffs!
Another flavour that works well is spicy orange.
I often add sparkling water to white wine but find red needs flavours and these non tea teas work well
