Greek yoghurt and half a dozen blueberries for breakfast. Tea (of course).

2nd meal will be fish fingers and salad (those bright orange ones - bad, but that's what I fancy today).

Still a bit under the weather - feeling chilly despite layers of clothes and the heating going strong. Heard nothing from the GP so far re the blood test taken on Thursday. Just having another cup of tea to try to warm me up a bit.

I got up at 04.30, took painkillers and, of course, fell asleep again in the chair. Woke up about 07.30, straight out of a slightly worrying dream, totally disoriented and not knowing whether it was morning or night. Took a minute or so for me to work it all out.

I eat those fish fingers too @Annb! Sometimes they're the quick and affordable option for me to avoid a much bigger bad with a takeaway, and you did have a salad with them so it's not all bad. Hope you feel much better soon.

I had a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast, did some decluttering, had some pate with iceberg lettuce leaves for lunch, did a tip run and now having bacon and egg salad for tea.

Actually, I didn't enjoy the fish fingers. The salad was better. That's because they were cod, and I'm not keen on cod. I had thought they would be haddock. Never mind, it filled a gap.

Breakfast today was an idea my brother saw in some YouTube video - a kind of chocolate cheese - it was Greek yoghurt whipped together with cottage cheese and cocoa powder. I thought it was worth a try but either he got the ingredients wrong or I misunderstood what he said because it was rubbish! It might have worked with ricotta or with mascarpone, but not with cottage cheese. It was a wet, lumpy mess and I felt pretty ill after supping it.

2nd meal will be spiced, roasted cauliflower. It's done already and only needs heating up.

I had started making a chilli con carne type of dish (minced meat, onions, tinned tomatos, chilli pepper, garlic, herbs and spices, spoonful of Branston for more depth and sweetness) when I found out I didn't have beans. Went to neighbour Tale for beans but no luck.
No problem, without the beans it's just a spicy bolognese type thing with extra onions and without the spaghetti. :joyful:
I ate with neighbour Andries, and we had it with a dollop of crème frâiche in case it was chilli without the beans, and grated cheese in case it was spaghetti sauce without spaghetti. :hilarious:
Andries absolutely devoured my meal. It's so much more fun to cook when someone enjoys your cooking!

This was followed by a couple of beers with us three neighbours sharing an address, it's a happy evening.

Good news too: Yesterday I texted my former boss from the bridges (bridge season ended at the end of October) to ask if she knew anything about my chances to come back in April, and I got the job in 5 minutes! :joyful::joyful::joyful:
Looking forward to working again.

In Texas there is quite the debate over whether or not chilli should have beans. It’s one of those things people often feel passionate about. You enjoyed it…what matters

Just managed to get myself showered and - more difficult - dried and dressed. One handed is making life difficult.

Breakfast will be some cottage cheese with some tomato and cucumber.
2nd meal has to be something with some smoked mackerel - maybe a bit more salad.

Still feeling excessively tired and grotty but I am going to get my legs bandaged - no choice now that I've taken off the old bandages. BG is too high. Oxygen is a bit low. Pulse is a bit high. Temperature 36.2 C - that's OK but I don't think I'm over whatever the infection was.

I broke my arm and I am so sick of doing things one handed- you have my sympathy and wish you much better health for 2026.

Thanks Amos. Luckily my arm has improved dramatically along with all my other symptoms. This has been some kind of inflammation that has been building up for months and finally reached crisis point. The antibiotics helped calm it all down and I am almost back to, for what is me, normal. Lungs still a bit problematic and arthritis is a bit more than a pain in the neck, but definitely better than I was a few days ago.

I do hope you get some use back in your arm soon - one handed is no fun at all. I managed to break both of my elbows some years back, but only the little bits on the funny bone so I did still have restricted use of my arms. That wasn't exactly a whole heap of fun, but not what you would call proper breaks, just chips. Much sympathy from me to you.

I agree! I love sharing my garden vegetables with people who really enjoy them too. The runner bean abundance of 2025 was much enjoyed by my friends and family!

That's brilliant, it sounds like a really enjoyable job too. Well done!

Ah, sadly I enjoy them too much!

Yesterday was a funny one, after good progress the day before, I started with not feeling great and even went back to bed for a couple of hours after breakfast - not good for my BG levels! I enjoyed that extra rest though and felt pretty much ok the rest of the day, but didn't get a lot done.

I had a small carby breakfast with cream cheese, baked beans and sausages for lunch and an egg and bacon salad for tea.

Usual small breakfast, egg salad with some pate and home grown pea shoots (finally big enough to eat!) for lunch and swedish chicken meatballs with mixed beans for tea.

My little grow lights garden is expanding! Having sworn off buying things for gardening this year apart from absolute necessities... I bought loads of grow lights. Loads! I have a couple of large shelf units in my woman cave (that's not a euphamism for my uterus, it's my dining room that became a home office and now is my me-time space) and living room, which are ideal for growing indoor leafy vegetables under grow lights.

The lettuces are doing great, so is a pot of rocket and some lemon coriander. I've sown a couple of containers of microgreens and cress - I didn't use jars because I found these purpose made containers I bought last year while I was looking for the seeds.

I need to sow my peppers, tomatoes and chilli plants - I'm not growing lots of them, just a couple of each.

I absolutely love your updates on groing things @jpscloud , even if I'd never be able to do it!
My plants are lucky if they get watered more often than once a month. :bag:
To be fair I am a serial houseplant killer - I just have a couple left that flat out refuse to die :hilarious:

It's just that growing food plants is different, really, it's double the reward - they look good and you get to eat them as well!

Breakfast yesterday was a home made scone and a cup of coffee.
2nd meal was potato slices baked with onion and tomato (chilled and reheated) with a chicken thigh, baked in a spicy yoghurt sauce.

Breakfast today (shortly) will be a few more potato slices and a fried egg. First I have to stop feeling sick (started up while I was in the shower).
There's plenty of chicken left for a second meal.

EDIT: Didn't stop feeling sick until I was on my way home from the Health Centre so have only just had my "breakfast". When I got to see the nurse who bandaged my legs, she told me that I had another appointment with a different nurse immediately after hers - that was news to me. Turned out to be my 6 month review with the diabetes nurse. She checked BP (good apparently) and took some blood to check HBa1c, and that was it. Ticking boxes, I guess.

Breakfast was the usual, then fish cakes with salad for lunch, and I've just had mixed beans with some swedish chicken meatballs for tea.

I've planted some chilli seeds and ordered the tomato seeds that I was sure I had already ordered but they're nowhere to be found. The chillis (provided they grow) should be ready to move into the greenhouse in May or June, depending on our weather this year. I think they will be fine in the house until then under grow lights.

Your growing - and your growlights - sound impressive. Love hearing about your progress very inspiring.

I'm glad I'm not that good looking now. I'm still trying to find a date through that dating site and just switched from there to here, and you scared me for a moment...

Evening meal was the second half of yesterdays smoked sausage, and a slice of low carb toast with grated celeriac and lots of mayonnaise.
I spent most of the afternoon talking with new tenant Andries, who seems to start feeling comfortable enough with me to disagree with me on politics and religion, which is a very good thing! I don't need to agree with him to like him as a person, glad he seems to start to feel safe enough to believe he can be who he is here.
