Low GL or GI is certainly a good place to start. Sorry if I was too harsh on Holford. As long as it's understood that GI/GL varies from individual to individual, sometimes significantly, it is a good place to start.

Ive just discovered Divine 70% choc with raspberry.......it most def is divine.I found it in a larger Sainsburys when I was stocking up on my sugarfree marshmallows.
Sugar free marshmallows??????? What brand are they? Sound fab!

Thank you! Excellent idea that I would never have thought of as we never go down the pate aisle. I just got him some Brussels pate and he went mad for it :cat: It will be a lot easier to slip his steroids into a little ball of pate so that his chubby brother does not get any by accident. (((Toed))) x

I found Holford's low GL diet absolutely fab (carbs! carbs! delicious non-evil yummy carbs!) until I started to feel consistently droopy, widdled more, and went back to BG testing.

It was bad.

No lovely low GL carbs for me. :bigtears:

I started this journey using a GI/GL diet. I still use it sometimes. Have you added up the GL of each of the foods you've eaten in a day? I found I have to reduce this from the Under 60 recommended for diabetics to about 30 before I can cope with it.

Breakfast- turkey rashers, tomato, mushrooms- went wild and had a tsp Heinz piccallil
Lunch- herby ham and feta salad
evening chilli with sprinkle cheese, homemade coleslaw, green salad; greek yogurt and rhubarb
drinks- water water water- going to look like a glass of water soon

I don't count GL per se. I used it to formulate ideas on slower releasing carbs and the science behind it and now just count carbs to 60-80g a day so within the low carbing range but not quite as hardcore as others. I may reduce further but still experimenting. I'm basically using the principles of it and reducing carbs where possible.

Intolerance, career politicians, reality TV and so-called celebrity culture, mobile phones in the quiet carriage.
Breakfast, yoghurt with a few blackberries and hazelnuts.
Lunch, egg, mushrooms, tomato, salami and slice of wholemeal toast
Dinner, avocado vinaigrette, chicken breast, ratatouille, gooseberries & cream, glass red wine.

On waking: 6 cashews
Breakfast (late): 3 eggs, scrambled in butter
Snack: macdonalds drive thru latte (small)
Dinner: chicken breast scattered with grated cheese (ate the skin on Wed) with masses of lovely roast Mediterranean veg. Yum.
Late: probably a peanut 9 bar
Last thing: 6 cashews

4 units in morning, 14 in evening (usually 16 in evening)

BF: Protein Shake
pre BG:7.8
forgot 2 post, busy with work
Morning levels always high

Lunch:2 x Sausages, 3 x Bacon, Mushrooms and 2 fried eggs done in coconut oil
pre BG:5.7
2 post BG:6.9
Chuffed with that as I have avoided fry ups for so many years, twice a week staple from now on minimum.

Dinner:Kaeng Som (Thai curry with salmon, cauliflower, long beans,broccoli, etc)
2 sq 90% choc.
pre BG:6.1
2 post: tbc

1st week almost done on LCHF, BG has been between 5 & 7 all week apart from mornings, no high spikes like usual, so very pleased I found this forum and learn so much from real people with real experience of living with diabetes, thank you everyone, if it carries on like this or gets better ( want off the small insulin dose I have) I will be happy, thank you for all the posts about LCHF very informative, as is the diet doctor YouTube clip, woke me up!!

O.k, so this was Wednesday but I made some bulgar wheat porridge for breakfast. It was delish, I devoured a whole bowl and didn't look back, but imagine my disappointment with an 8.9 spike! Took a while to come down too. oh well, another one bites the dust, **** it tasted good though -like rice pudding!
Has anyone tried flax porridge?

They are @Spiker 's suggestion, and don't cause me a spike. Marvellous. They actually feel like you're eating something very wrong. ;)

Not sure I'm allowed to post a link. Try googling '9bar peanut'. I get mine from Tescos.

it was after 1 hour, was down to 7.6 2 hours after. not horrendous but can't be doing that every day..............
