I was going to like your post, but I'm more liking the result on your tooth - silver lining and all that!
I was given my crown in a little fairy bag for safe keeping with a reminder NOT to put it under my pillow as they might need it.

But if your appt isn't for a couple of weeks, then you really need an extended health spa stay - to build up your strength for the coming ordeal!
;)
Glad it's good news. :D

Good news on the tooth front. Tbh I'd be happy with a student and a brick if he didn't charge a small fortune. My last visit to the dentist saw me handing over my life savings whilst he chatted to another patient about his upcoming trip on the Trans Siberian Exoress.

That would make me feel rather bitter. Humph.

Breakfast - A little Alpen (!)
Lunch - ham and tomato omelette (yum)
Dinner - will be chicken and vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower)
Snacks - lubly jubly satsumas

Yes my grandad's DN told him if he was having fruit ( and he eats 1/2 banana every night!!) to bury it in meal - he has it with sugar free jelly and yogurt. I can manage half an apple with a piece of cheese on its own but only have that if BS levels at 5 after my main meal. As @Bluetit1802 says, try berries and yogurt or cream as a fruity treat. I sometimes make stewed rhubarb ( using sweetener) and that's nice with creme Fraiche and doesn't spike me.

B: Smoked mackerel (canned), 3 toasted cheese bites & tomatoes
L: Baby bel, leftover bits of other cheese, 2 more toasted cheese bites, home-made salsa, olives, mayo (snacking while dismantling Xmas tree etc :()
D: Will be salmon & cod & sundry veg all done in the steamer with a white sauce & mushrooms. Followed a bit later by a piece of chocolate & coconut cheesecake from the freezer with double cream and maybe some berries. Or not.

I have just bought a new fruit to try (new to me, that is).

Californian Meyer Lemons from Tesco. They are supposed to be very sweet lemons like half-lemon/half-mandarin. Sorry if you all know this lol, I'd never heard of them until I saw them on a low carb American blog a while back. Saw them recently in Tesco and remembered the recipe. Packaging states 3.2g carbs per 100g. They weigh 140-170g each. £1.85 for a pack of 4, so a little pricey. Will let you know how the recipe goes later.

What a difference a few days makes. Tesco was not busy and they had binned the Christmas music in favour of Sunshine On Leith. It was magical!:joyful:

Breakfast two eggs scrambled, light benecol drink
Lunch 25g pate, slice ham, 12g cheese, celery, pickled onion
Dinner soup with ham and cold chicken

Drinks green tea, earl grey, decaff coffee

Today was my first low cal day - aimed at 800 but was probably nearer 900 but did over 100'cals on exercise bike. Trying to have a couple of extra low cal days a week to see if it has any effect on my BS levels. May build up to more as weather warms up. I was really taken by the presentation given by Roy Taylor on diabetes reversal and would like to try and shift this last stone and a bit sooner rather than later to see what effect it might have- my lingering weight is all a tyre round my middle so it would be good to see it go from a health perspective.

B: 2 breakfast balls and a coffee with cream
L: macdonalds burger and half the fries. Don't ask. Weird one off. BG was 7.3 at 2 hours. Which amazed me with its lowness.
D: ham slow cooked in orange juice with leeks. Added zero noodles. I drained off the OJ gravy. Mr B inhaled the gravy.
S: 2 of Heston's chocs. Sublime.

Still running scared of veg.

Was going to do minted lamb burgers, but the ham was sending out a siren song. Tomorrow.

I have been wondering recently if the benefits of the ND could be achieved with real food rather than shakes. What do you reckon?

Taylor seemed to suggest it was the weight loss by whatever method that worked .. So someone asked about. 5:2 and he said it was fine as long as you lost the weight. On the website it says that the low cal option is best if you can't lose weight at rate of 2 1// st in 6 months. I think that having a few low cal days a week is one way of reducing total intake and keeping metabolism on toes. I guess if you like cooking you should be able to come up with lots of suitable meals within the calories allowed. The upside of the shakes is that they are supposedly nutrient dense , require little preparation so you aren't always thinking about food and calorie restricted. I don't fancy the meal replacements so going to try this way.

That's very interesting. Thanks, ethyl. I will have to give this more thought when I go back to work next week and have a routine again. I am thinking that home-made, batch cooked, "ready meals" in the freezer would take the thinking out of the equation. And eggs.

Didn't get round to posting yesterday's fruitful delights.... getting my appetite back and taste buds are awakening too!

Breakfast... Coconut water, pineapple, spinach and chia & flaxseed smoothie
Lunch... Orgainc raspberries with double cream ... Luxurious treat :)
Snack... Small handful walkers lime & coriander popadums with tzatziki dip
Dinner... 1 very thin paratha with cauliflower curry
Don't usually eat anything else after dinner but yesterday evening was craving yet more fruit, so enjoyed a satsuma and papaya fruit salad.

Blood sugars before bed were a comfortable 7.8.

Strange how quickly our tastes for foods can change. Previously my treats would have been biscuits, cakes or chocolate but when I was in tesco the other day, I didn't even go to the 'naughty treat' aisles. Instead I found some organic raspberries that were half price  and this hit the spot perfectly.

My usual
Brekkie; bullet/fat coffee
Afternoon coffee with coconut oil and 1 tbsp Jersey cream
Plans for dinner, very low carb - slow roasted spicy spareribs with melted butter, yummy (didn't have traditional Swedish Xmas food, where spareribs usually are included this year)
