What Have You Given Up For Lent?

Courgettes.
I was only diagnosed (T2) about 5 weeks ago and I'm trying to control my diabetes with diet and exercise (which means no chocolate and low carbs). I've also given up the 5, or so, cigarettes per week that I used to smoke... Which left me with a bit of a problem as to what to give up for Lent! My b/f thought giving up sex was a bad idea  .

Eventually I decided to give up swearing. This is a big challenge for me, since I come from the Medway towns (originally), where swearing is just a type of (obscene) punctuation. Not sure how long I can last. :silent:

Have you given anything up?

Yes, I've given up giving up things for Lent. When I was a kid in care, we used to have to give up things like sweets for Lent. Thing is, we never got sweets anyway, so it was just a horrible excuse to perpetuate the myth to us youngsters that we were fulfilling our obligations for Lent and being good little Catholic children.

Oh dear! That's sad. My boyfriend was brought up Catholic and went to a Catholic school. In his own words: "At fifteen I gave up Catholicism for Lent and I never looked back".

I'm C of E, so I've decided to observe Lent but our vicar is pretty laid back about it... He keeps telling us that we can have "guilt free" Saturday nights off.

Well, last night my wife snuggled into me, and I gently whispered to her "Sorry, it's Lent! she just lloked at me and asked, "Who to? and for how long?"

Haha! That HAS to be an old joke... But I haven't heard it before.

As a Catholic I try my best to observe Lent. I think the one thing I am giving up is excess....ok maybe it is a bit of an excuse to get back on track, but hey if it works. So out with anything sugary, controlling rest of food intake and meat -free and fasting on Fridays....

Day 1 done....39 days to go!!!

I've given up giving things up and so far its working

I didn't even know it was lent, i must have strayed further from my catholic upbringing than i thought
Maybe i can give up nagging which will please the wife hahah

I gave up lo-carbing, and telling the truth.

But not in that order.
