So last night, about two hours after dinner I was higher than I would have liked at 11.3.(9pm) Decided to see what happened over the next couple of hours and sure enough vision went blurry, was thirsty, etc. Checked again 14.1 (11pm) Took a correction dose and two hours after that was 8.2 (1am). Right ok, thought that blip was all sorted. Then I woke up this morning and my FBG was 11.3! Any ideas on what happened and how to stop it from happening again? My normal FBG is around 8.5 which is higher than I would like but a hell of a lot better then 11.3!

First question... What did you eat for dinner?

I had Chilli Con Carne with Brown Basmati rice all together was about 50 carbs. Used 1:10 ratio. Just confusing because I had exactly the same dinner last week and there was no spike! :)

We normally find night time rises before about 1am are protein related rises, as often the meat from dinner doesn't kick in for 4-6 hours. Continued rises throughout the night, despite corrections, could be brewing a cold/illness?

Could it be illness or a hormonal issue? Have you changed your insulin to make sure it's not 'gone off' and become less effective?

Hi @empink I see from your profile that you're relatively recently diagnosed, so it's possible that what you're seeing is the variation in insulin release from your pancreas affecting what happens to you after eating. On the occasions there were no issues, it was probably producing some insulin, and on the days there were, less.

I suspect that it's a normal part of your beta cell degeneration, and you'll see more variation. It's worth keeping an eye on it as it may indicate that you're reaching a point where you'll need more insulin.

I suffer this myself at the moment, and found out that rice takes longer to break down so continues to rise for approx 4 hours. Perhaps this was what you experienced.

I only found this out as I have just started using the freestyle libre, and provides lots of info.
