Hi can anyone tell me about c-peptide level, and how do I know if my pancreas is making insulin? They don't do the regular tests for c-peptide what difference does it make? I am type 2

C-peptide and the hormone insulin are created from a larger molecule called proinsulin, and stored in the beta cells of the pancreas. When insulin is released into the bloodstream to help transport glucose into the body's cells (to be used for energy), equal amounts of C-peptide also are released. This makes C-peptide useful as a marker of insulin production.

no one has ever tested my cpeptide in 9 yrs just thrown meds at me. :roll:
to find out if you are t1 or t2 they can do a gad65 antibody test to find out. if you are t1 you usually end up in A&E within a week anyway so that is a good indication of type too! saying that it is not impossible for a t2 to end up there too! the gad 65 antibody test has to be done within a certain time tho. not sure how long.

They do test for c-peptide in certain circumstances.

How is it used ?
C-peptide is used to monitor insulin production and to help determine the cause of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). The test is not ordered to help diagnose diabetes, but when a person has been newly diagnosed with diabetes, it may be ordered by itself or along with an insulin level to help determine how much insulin a person's pancreas is still producing.

It can be used for other reasons which are explained in the link.
