Many here will disagree with me, but I would say that you are not currently diabetic, but could very, very easily become so and at "42" you are on the slippery slope. You don't say what you diet is/was. If it was simply a traditional weight loss diet, you probably don't need to stick to that, but I would strongly recommend a low carb lifestyle (diet), which is for life.

May I ask what your A1c was on diagnosis? In my opinion, once you have been given a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes then you will always have it. How you manage the condition is the only variable.

Seems to me that if you're "down to 42" then @Guzzler is right ... inferring that at some point, you were higher

IMO what matters is not whether you have the label "diabetic" but whether you are living with levels of blood glucose that are harmful to your health. With an A1c of 42 you are at risk for cardiac problems and other diabetic complications. Lower would be better, but only you can decide whether you are prepared to refine your diet still further in order to reduce your bg.

Well done on getting your HbA1c down into the pre-diabetic range @sweetdave. Hopefully you will be able to get into the non-diabetic range at your next Hba1c.
My last HbA1c was 42 too. But if I went back to eating as I used to my blood glucose would soon go back up into the diabetic range.
So I am still diabetic, but my diabetes is 'controlled'.

Hi sweetdave,
Yes, you still have to watch your diet and if I were you I'd check my BG too, to keep it under control. Your diabetes is dormant at the moment, but could easily wake up if you're not careful. I wasn't back in the last decade. Please see my sig.
