What is the best diet drink?

I like black tea. Hot or cold doesn't matter. No calories

Definitely flavoured water and normal water. Anything without added sugar. I buy robinsons apple and blackcurrant it's so nice.

Water. I drink well diluted Robinsons Orange and Pineapple or Summer Fruits (2.5 litres a day on average). I drink black coffee with two sweetex (no impact at all on my system) and Pukka teas (mainly cinnamon based)...I also drink the odd bittern melon tea (which can lower my blood sugar level quite quickly if it's high). Coke Zero has no sugar in it at all (but like many other sugar free drinks - there's more than enough other guff in there to take its toll).

I avoid aspartme as it can give me an upset stomach so stick to Sainsburys diet coke or or their cola zero which are sweetened with sucralose and I've never had a problem with those. There was an earlier thread here about fizzy drinks and I rememner someone mentioning that M&S diet coke and Vimto Zero also use sucralose as the sweetener but not tried them yet. Bill

I've started on Nettle leaf tea recently, rather nice. My favorite fizzy drink is Sprite Zero which I drink in moderation.

Aldi do some small juice drinks like Fruit Shots that are zero sugar and the sweetener in them is Stevia a natural sweetener...I will not have anything with artificial sweetener... they are not really sweet to the taste so suit me I don't like anything that's really sweet. Never been a fan of Coke so don't know about that

Sparkling water or diet lemonade. Don't like "brown" drinks.

Sainsbury's sugar free Dandelion and Burdock. I can drink it by the bucket load. The other half hates it....

Water - at just the right temp on a hot day. I can feel it going through me and cooling me down. Nothing is more refreshing but wait for it - I find it easier to drink out of old diet coke cans. I usually have half a dozen or so filled and waiting in the fridge. I find it easier to drink the required volume of water this way. Psychologists will answer any queries you have!

Here's the science:
  • Chemistry- nearly all chemical reactions in the body take place in water
  • Transport - main component of blood - the predominant transport network in the body
  • Heat sink. High specific heat capacity of water means a little bit can help you cool down a lot (internally)
  • heat transport - the warmed water can transfer heat to wherever else it might be needed.

Now try and repeat thee above statements replacing water with the word Diet coke?

Next up - black coffee or black tea - diuretic to a degree and a bit of a stimulant to kick start the gym work.

I also enjoy the occasional single malt whisky on Saturdays in October. (long story). I will add water - but it has to be Highland Spring.

With meals - sparkling mineral water

As for diet fizzy drinks - I have enough to deal with without adding aspartane or whatever it is, to the list.

Try it for one week - you will feel the difference

Personally I really don't like the taste of plain water, or teas so I'm an awkward so-and-so

If you're looking for coke-ish drinks my favourite by far is Pepsi Max. My favourite fizzy drink is Tesco's own Lime & Lemonade, I absolutely love it. Someone else mentioned their cherry coke too so might be worth you checking out their different flavours - they do a good range. I tried Asda's diet lemonade once and it was vile!

If you want to ditch the fizz then the Robinsons squashes are great, and again the Tesco ones aren't far behind but a lot cheaper.

Interested to see @Pinkorchid 's mention of the Aldi 'fruit shoots' - they could be great for throwing in a summer picnic :-)
