I went from 6.5% to 7.4% after eating a lot of cheap 0.50 kg bananas, then went back to several 5.4% readings after I was put on Metformin.

I am now 5.3%, but I hope to chip a bit more off this in December when my next hba1c is due.

Edit: Forgot to say that from 7.4% and back to 5.4% took three months.

I was 56mmol/L IFCC, due to poor control, down to 49mmol/L IFCC, after wanting better control, started carb counting properly, eating healthier, eating slow release carbs when I eat carbs etc

hope to be down to low 40s on next checkup, Mysugr app predicts 42, I hope that is it lol

After a switched from MDI to insulin pump by the 3 month mark I had gone from 7.5% to 6.9% and then to 6.5% where I have stayed.
Hi @kitedoc

hi @Tipetoo
i think Bananas are high in carbohydrates There is no difference between cheap and expensive

Hi
my friend, can you please explain
what do you mean slow release carbs

Hello again. Instead of eating normal carbohydrates, I now only eat wholemeal or refined such as wholemeal rice bread pasta etc, and for cereal shredded wheat and bran flakes. These are so my blood sugars rise slower than other carbs. I have cut my carb intake by 3/4 but the carbs I do eat are these types, low Glycaemic ones.

Hi I started low carb and low cal beginning of September this year as my HBA1C was 72, my HBA1C last monday (after 4 weeks) has come down to 58 :-) I have lost a stone in weight also and have 1 stone to go to my goal. The last week I have had my blood sugar raised when testing to around 8 or 9 in the morning when I had got it down to around 6, I am not sure why this is happening as I am eating less than 50g of total carbs a day and lots of fat and protein, can anyone advise please?

Hi
From my experience eating protein at night raises the level of glucose in the blood each morning So I avoid eating protein after 6:30 pm
Of course we are not alike but it seems to me that 50 grams of carbohydrates is a little high
Best wishes Nicel

I was diagnosed with an HbA1c of 70, I virtually halved it in four months down to 36 (with an interim reading of 45 at two months) I achieved it with low carb eating and Metformin.

Hi thanks for coming back to me, I never knew that about protein, I did eat late last night which I normally don't do. I will try to not do that again. I felt that less than 50g of total carbs was low, I am getting that from vegetables mainly. how low on carbs would you suggest? I am talking total carbs not net

Thanks and well done to you

Well done that is certainly encouraging for me starting the journey (5 weeks in) of battling against this disease with diet :-)
If my HBA1C was 72 and then 58 4 weeks later, any idea what time period HBA1C is read over? I keep hearing conflicting things of 2-3 months and then recently from my doctor 4-6 weeks

I think you mean low glycemic, but are you not better off forgoing all carbs as much as you are able?
The only good carbs are those that remain unbeaten.

Here is what this website says about the HbA1c test, scroll down to the paragraph entitled “How does the HbA1c test work”, it says 8 - 12 weeks with a bias towards the weeks immediately preceding the test.

I think you mean that you eat low glycaemic foods. This is just my opinion so please do not take it as a slur but carbohydrates are carbohydrates, it doesn't matter what colour they are or where they sit on the Glycaemic Index they are still carbs and will still be absorbed.
