What is your definition of what is a good level?

One of the reasons I never post on those Fasting Blood Glucose threads is because I think they are likely to cause confusion and competitiveness - including feelings of failure if other people do 'better' (if 'better' = 'lower')

I haven't seen a fasting blood glucose reading below 6 mmol/l more than 3 times in the last 4 years. They are often in the 7s, sometimes 8s and have been significantly higher.

In fact, I got so tired of seeing my fasting readings bounce about like a toddler on tartrazine that I stopped taking the readings at all. I know I have control of my blood glucose. I know that my HbA1c is where I want it. I know what food does to my body. And I know that my fasting blood glucose levels are more affected by stress hormones than by food. My hormone situation is weird, and not something I can sort out.

I second what others above had said. PLEASE do not compare yourself to anyone else. Your diabetes and your blood glucose readings are affected by a heck of a lot more than what you put in your mouth, and while we can control a lot of our environment and intake, there are always wildcards and aspects of our bodies and lives that make us unique.

Those of us who wake up to fasting readings in the 4s and 5s are lucky. That luck may have been augmented by dietary control, weight loss, effort, dedication, medication and education, but none of those things guarantee low fasting readings. We all get a hand of cards dealt to us, and then play them as we are able.
