The only real way to know is to test just before eating and then again 2 hours after your last mouthful and compare the readings. if the post reading is more than 2 mmol/L more than the pre reading then you should consider modifying what you just ate.
Hi, can you explain or reference the pre/post reading difference of 2 mmol/L. I haven't come across this figure anywhere before ... thanks
Hi gezzathorpe,
I saw it mentioned on a thread somewhere on this forum. I think it was suggested as a 'rule of thumb'
I guess, so long as the post-prandial reading is within the
NICE recomended range then you're OK :?:
I would suggest 2 mmol/L increase as a max
guideline is based on the pre-prandial being somewhere in the middle of the NICE Pre-prandial range so that the post-prandial reading doesn't 'top-out' past the max NICE post-prandial range.
Seems reasonable to me!
I'm aiming for the Non-diabetic range.
May be I should quote the NICE guidelines alongside suggesting this advice?

In my defence  I did type 'should consider modifying' I didn't type 'must modify'
Hope that clarifies.
