Dear friends
I have lurked her for years with great benefit, thank you all.
I have just been diagnosed with a kidney infection- pain, lethargy, complete loss of appetite and am on mega doses of antibiotics.
In the last 3 days i have forced down small portions of greek yoghurt and a scrambled egg with ryvita for the crunch & fibre and drunk water, tea and a little coconut water.
The problem is that my bmi after low carbing is about 18 and I don't want to lose much more of my reserves
Advice welcome

Lots of Lemon squeezed in water to flush the kidneys.

I had stones so probably not the same but an anti stone diet is lemon water, lower protein and lower salt. Makes sense that would help an infection as well because it take the load off the kidneys.

Grannypat, sorry to read about your miserable infection. Just what you didn't need! I'd like to try to re-assure you about your bmi and possible further weight loss. At present I have an unintentional bmi of 16.5, which is alarming to me and my GP because we don't know the cause, but actually in the short term I'm fine. I'm working on gradually increasing my weight, but if that doesn't work, well, I can quite well carry on as I am. Your story reminded me of an episode in my own life last winter, when I had a bout of acute bronchitis which made me feel awful. For several days all I could do was sleep and make myself drinks of lemon and honey (I didn't know then about my pre-diabeic tendencies!) During that time I did lose weight, and so may you, but as a long-term follower of this forum I'm sure you know how gradually to build it up again. Meanwhile, don't worry! Just be kind to yourself and take it easy. This is not the time for big nutritional efforts, except of course for staying hydrated. Very best wishes.

How about some homemade chicken broth? Rather than a whole chicken I just buy wings or drumsticks (intact with both bones and skins) and boil those up with some herbs and some veggies (e.g. celery, fennel, mushrooms are good sources of vital minerals). I keep all the meat and veggies and whizz the lot up with some cream or a dollop of coconut oil and it's quite a nice and filling comfort food...
