Hi all.

I have as diagnosed in February with a HBA1C of 69.
Since then with the help of metformin and diet changes I have got it down to 46

Took BS this morning before food and it was a shocker since I realised I had been cutting grapes and not washed hands before I tested!

So obviously did that and retested at a 6.1,
Had a coffee with one sugar and then had a chopped apple and yogurt for breakfast. Took metformin, antidepressant and multivitamin.

Just retested after 2hrs and I’m at a 5.

I was told be diabetic nurse not to go below a 4.
I generally sit anywhere between mid 5 to about a 7/8 range.

But looking at the strip pots - they all say different things for normal range! Some say 6.1 up, others say 5.5 up.

Just wondering where I should be aiming

I’m using an AGAMATRIX

Hi @Skippy1707 Don't worry about an ideal BS level it is different for everybody because it depends upon your goals.

It is very unlikely that you will go below 4 if your only diabetes medication is Metformin. Even if it does go below 4 it shouldn't be dangerous for a Type 2 since your liver will react and dump some more glucose into your blood stream. Note that while Metformin reduces the amount of glucose that the liver will dump, it doesn't prevent it completely.

Your BS range of between ,id 5 and 7 to 8 seems fine to me.

Your latest HbA1C of 46 is in the pre-diabetic range, so congratulations. It's a personal decision whether to aim for lower e.g. 40 or below to get into the non-diabetic 'normal' range, or not.

Since your pots of test strips should all be made by the same manufacturer I don't understand why some would have different figures on them for normal ranges. But it doesn't matter.
