See if the following is helpful, it's an on-line version of the DAFNE course which covers things like basal insulin and getting your insulin-to-carb ratio's right:

Great question. I currently 'take' my Lantus at 10pm - however I don't know if this is the best time for me. If I'm out I'll invariably forget or, because I take it in my thigh (I'm a wimp and can't contemplate sticking 32 units into my stomach), find it impossible to find a toilet clean enough to brave taking it in!
How difficult would it now be for me to start taking my dosage in the mornings?
Not difficult at all, you can take lantus any time of the day as long as you leave 24 hours between injections. You start by moving the timing of your dose back by 3 hours at a time so that it doesn't overlap too much, I would move it to 7pm for two days then 4pm for two more and so on until you reach the time that you are happy to take the lantus injection, just be sure to test your bg more frequently when you do move the timing, if in doubt speak with your DSN.
Also, try using your bum as well as your thighs for injecting your lantus insulin.
Thank you - that's very helpful. In 24 years I've never injected my bum - despite my having a lot of bum! Like I said, I'm a wimp - gonna give it a go tonight though ;-)
Cheers
You may find it difficult at first, but be assured it does become easier once you've done it a few times
Take a look at the following for where you can inject insulin:

@noblehead - that link is really interesting... I inject my long acting into my backside - but I use the fleshier bits - ie lower - than this pic recommends... Do you know why they recommend higher up...? Have I been injecting 'bum shots'; literally... ;-)
