What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

5.6 this morning. Have recovered from the cold virus and blood sugars have come back to normal.

Took the dogs into our local market town for their 3 monthly dog groom. They look so shiny and clean and ready to go away for Christmas.

Had a lovely surprise in Boots the Chemist. I found out that I had a £50 credit on my Boots card.
 
Afternoon.

Seems I'm bucking this winning trend with a losing one . Aagghh.

FBG 7.3....has good reason, so trying not to be to stressed over it.

Lauren has Facebook friend.
They hit it off years ago and regularly meet up for a good chinwag & to go to restaurants .

Pandemic meant they couldn't, then one thing leads to another so they hadn't met up for a few years now, only calls & texts

Arranged to meet at hers last night (Islington)

I said I'd pick her up.
Got warned to be ULTRA CAREFUL of the LTN restrictions

(Local traffic networks set in place under covid rules )

I crawled at low speed once nearby, checking every sign
and still caught out ..(twice, I think )

A nice £300 + fine heading our way

Will be appealing them, signage abysmal..clearly intended to catch as many as possible .

Not against such things per se , but make signage clear.
Not every journey can be made by bicycle, those not local need clear guidance so as not to cause harm or inconvenience .

Her friend & her husband came down to meet me on arrival

Tell me Uber, taxis & minicabs won't come to local streets
They have to arrange pick up and wait outside local pub, just outside the zone .

On plus side, her friend had cooked a fabulous spread of Chinese dishes .

She had kindly given me a doggie bag of dishes.
Smelled gorgeous & tasted even better.

A little joy at the end of a stressful drive.

So fbg compounded by that small pleasure, and my inner rage at the imbecility of people being scared to drive in areas they don't know that well....aagghh.

Calm, breathe, repeat.

Oh no @jjraak. To be caught out by LTN restrictions when you have been so carefully reading signs. Hope your appeal is successful.

She has a reflective jacket, which she seems to have mislaid as well as reflective arm bands - also lost. I think I'll get a few pairs and sew them onto her jackets.

This was still hanging around from yesterday - obviously didn't post when I asked it to. I've ordered some extra reflective bands to fix to her jackets - surely she can't lose all of them before the lighter mornings arrive.

Glad you finally found somewhere to stay that you feel is suitable and secure. Accommodation is so expensive these days. At least, when we have to go away for treatment, there is a hostel attached to the hospital. Unfriendly looking place, but clean and secure.

I gave up driving something over a year ago, couldn't even manage daytime driving because I just couldn't trust either my eyes or my judgement. But then, I have my Neil to drive my car for me so I am lucky and didn't have to try to keep going. I think he was relieved when I told him. Trying not to accept the mobility problems, but they are what they are and I just have to acknowledge, with as good a grace as I can muster that without help,I couldn't manage and just be grateful that I have that help.
 
A win for emulating this prayer so well.

courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.

Hug for the loss of some freedom, but a win for having such a top rate back up driver & life co-pilot ...
 
MrSlim is busy ordering stuff on the internet. It seems I will be getting a new filter for one of the vacuums and a replacement thermostat for the second oven for Christmas. The second oven has not worked properly for three years.
 
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and those who plough their own furrow through life, which incidentally we all do in our own fashion.

Blood sugars this morning were a straight 5.0

A bit of a busy morning in Tilehurst Towers, starting with over sleeping, rushing around sorting out some recycling, then covid test, breakfast and medication. Pause for breath, stand in local rain cabinet, dry, throw some clothes on, jump in the cage ( motorcycle slang for car ) and get driven to Bracknell hospital for my skin clinic appointment disrobe get examined all over for skin cancer, a side effect of the transplant medication I take. All clear thankfully, have repeat in 12 months time says the consultant. Celebrate with a safety koffy, after getting dressed….. That was appointment 6 of 6 no more medical stuff until next year.

Next get back into the cage and get driven to an area of Reading called Caversham, well known for traffic snarl ups and onerous parking restrictions, to the cemetery where our middle son is buried to lay a wreath, never a happy trip. Then a truly forgettable low carb lunch.

At last back in Tilehurst Towers for an afternoon nap.
Now perhaps I can start my day, plinky plonky practice, but first catch up on other stuff, which must remain unspoken or me, me’s and myself must kill you, unofficial secrets act etc, etc.

Chatting to my mother this morning and she resigned to not driving any more (well - on the cusp if you know what I mean). They have an underground garage and the thought of her driving her mobility scooter down that ramp doesn’t bear thinking about (but she has though about it of course). The stairs are now just too much even with crutches. luckily by niece went round today, pinched the car and it is now in Bordeaux.

I have skimmed through your posts.

I am in a hotel room now. I could not have driven home after my hospital appointment for love or money. So it was a very good idea that I booked this hotel room. The hospital has changed places, has moved, and it did not tell me. So I got there to an entrance which was completely boarded up and I'm thinking what the heck just happened now. We are definitely in the apocalypse, a totally deserted rundown hospital building and I'm looking at the front of it thinking I've missed something somewhere, when did the apocalypse take place...

I Google but it's still giving me the entrance that is now boarded up it doesn't give me a new hospital. I finally see a nurse walking down the street and I ask her. This road though down that road there is quite a way to walk.. well I was already exhausted from walking where I managed to park my car to what I thought was the hospital entrance but I didn't have any option but to keep going. My left leg is swollen, my knee has gone..

I wasn't the only confused person there were hundreds of people trying to figure out how to find St Paul's.

After my appointment I can barely make it back to the car and then I still have to drive to my hotel room a little bit out of town. I was so so tired. But that road was most horrendous I have seen it and I know the way to go (I used to live near here) but when I came up to a certain point in the road there's a sign saying something, and it said something like 'controlled zone' and I'm thinking what the heck is this, and nobody was going up that road but that was the main route to Aintree...where my hotel was. Anyway, I indicated quickly and got back into the traffic on the right, so I am now back into the main traffic which was going towards Fazakerley which was not where I needed to be. A bit later on I noticed quite a few people turning left to get on back on that road which had said controlled zone. I knew where they were going to be and where I oould turn right to get back up to Aintree. So the cars were all avoiding that section of the road to Aintree but I have no idea why.

Horrendous gridlock after that.

Finally in my hotel room and I am drop dead exhausted. I did have a plan for tomorrow morning before I went home, but considering how tired I am now I think I'm just going to sleep in for as long as I can. I don't have to register out until 12 noon, so I might as well make the most of that, have a good sleep and then go straight home.

I will read through your posts better when I get home...

Not only a great backup driver but currently has the dishwasher opened up and is attempting to repair the fault. So clever. He doesn't take after me so he must have got it from his dad. Better legacy than the money we didn't have to give him. I'm so lucky in both my sons.
