Positioning of the trail camera is very important @dogslife
I saw a video on YouTube about four years ago in order to explain how important positioning was to trigger off the camera in order for it to video the animal. The guy crawled along his hallway, in his house and came out of different doors and in doing so showed when and why the trail camera was triggered off., it had to be nearer the height of the animal's eyes.... if you have a long approach than the positioning is not so important. But for me, my space is very limited and I need the camera to trigger the moment it sees the animal. Prior to watching this video,( but unfortunately, I can't find it again.). I was getting absolutely nothing on my trail camera....

HH yesterday, finished painting the kitchen walls, then carried on with the battening on the leanto roof. However he is learning on the job and is very slow. So its not finished yet.
MrSlim is not feeling too good, but pushes himself to carry on anyway. He has fitted plasterboard in the back hall, replacing all the rotten and damp material tbat had to be taken out and put in the new wiring for the outside light. As well as painting the newky installed panelling. The heat does not help. He never did enjoy really hot weather and even mess so as his condition progresses.
Too hot to cook, so took advantage of local facilities. Pizza shop two minutes walk away. Selection is extensive and many of the choices are new to us.
There is even one that includes escargot and another uses the (in)famous andouillette sausage. Some very tasty souding options include seafood in different combinations.
Pizza wasn't huge, ready in under half an hour, very thin and crispy base. We ate with salad and my BG before was 5.9
An hour later 6.2.
This seems acceptable rise, so we may become regular customers.
The music festival was crowded and could have been fun,, but MrSlim was too hot, feeling unwell and on my own, not really enjoyable. Sad as it could have been an excellent opportunity to meet local people.
Its going to be another hot day, so time to get outside, before it becomes impossible.

I remember when my parents first went to live in France and mum ordered andouillette sausage at a local restaurant - the look on her face as she cut into it - priceless!

12.5 at 03.20 today. Now what is that all about?

Overcast but still here at the moment. Forecast says 20C later. When it's warm and still like this, there are so many flies around the bushes at the front of the house - too close to the ramp - and we battle swarms of them to get into or out of the house. I was trying to think of a plant that flies don't like to put as a barrier in hanging boxes along the handrail of the ramp but don't know which plants would do the job. I know midges don't like lavender, so could see if I could put some pot-grown lavender there, but that might not affect ordinary flies and I haven't come across a lavender small enough to stay in pots. Any thoughts you gardeners out there?

5.7 this morning.
Classes were quite small last night, but that was perfect after a very hot day. The room was actually quite cool as someone had closed all the curtains to keep it cool.

Today it is air con day as I am in the Norwich venue.

Trains yesterday. Our two carriage single decker 1960’s Routemaster on tracks does not have air conditioning but relies on speed to push a breeze through the half open tiny windows over the heads of the dripping passengers in third class. As the thing stops at every village and hamlet, reaching such speed is a pleasant rarity. Still, you are guaranteed a seat, contrast to the next train, a fabulously new air conditioned Virgin train with wonderfully comfy seats if only you could find a vacant one!
Today looks to be similar and the beach will resemble a BBQ pig roast competition as row upon row of northerners slowly turn bright pink and before your very eyes and before you know it, an uncomfortable moving replica of a danger flag flapping in whatever passes a as breeze.
Art bit - where’s the green bits?
According to Nietzsche,“It is only ideas gained from walking that have any worth.” Well OK but he probably didn’t say that on a scorchio foot blistering day. I shall wait in the shade until the day cools, drink koffy and lots of water.

According to This, these strong smells - maybe using essential oils if no suitable plants to hand.
You could make a couple of traps using bottles or jars with water in, some apple cider vinegar, sugar, ripened fruit etc., and a drop of washing up liquid to break the surface tension of the water.

Morning all from a sun blessed L.A which is making the patio slabs too hot for the dogs to bask in the sun. Even the bark chip area is too hot for them until after midday when the sun moves and shades some of that area. @alf_Josiah lovely to see you posting, I hope you are as well as can be expected. @dunelm thank you for sharing another splendid piece or art and giving your take on the traditional phew what a scorcher as well as Brutish Rail. @gennepher hug for what I imagine will be an unbearably hot day in that bungalow. Definitely a day to hydrate well, slather oneself in factor ? 100, wear a hat, sunnies, uv protective clothes and find shade. Cheery by.

Thank you @ianpspurs and a big yes to hats. I have been using a Tilley hat for several years with the attractive “we will replace it free of charge” label inside. Just got a summer one - lighter and with ventilation - no such guarantee though - grr! It does the job though.

Have actually managed to eat a slice but definitely something I would NOT choose.

5.7 before Lunch today :
lunch was ham, salad and a small piece of bread, followed by 5 small strawberries and 2 red raspberries, from the garden, with a teaspoonful of Crême fraiche.
After an hour BG was 8.2, seemed high to me so retested - 8.3.
Very surprising as a small icecream caused a much smaller rise.
Having had a similar lunch with same
bread yesterday can only conclude it's the fruit that caused the spike.

Thinking about it yesterday I had a hard boiled egg and some sardines, so probably more protein and fat in that lunch.
Anyway, after another hour BG is down to 5.4 so can't be too bad.

When in Greece, the locals use different many jars similar to jam jars with a stick coated in different substances to attract the different flies and wasps etc. Mostly outdoor eating places of near shrubs and flowers beds. To trap or distract insects away from food and such.
I always have a water bowl in my garden, as the rising humidity from them seems to keep the little blighters at bay in the warmth.
Humid today, and showers, but very warm.
Had my shingles jab this morning, my arm is sore, a little bit!
Mrs L is having another quiet day.
Cricket, currently very interesting. Good fight back.

There is lavender, mint (including peppermint, spearmint, and catnip), rosemary, lemongrass, marigolds, nasturtiums, lemon balm, and bay tree leaves (I have a huge bay tree growing so I can take as many leaves as I want off that and just crush them and spread them around).

I bought a lemon balm a few years ago and I've taken loads of cuttings and had that all over the garden... near the house and windows. I have rosemary, but that's been growing years. I do take cuttings off that as well.

Cheapest quickest option is mint. If you have some at the garden centre by maybe a dozen plants or a couple of dozen. Plant them and they will grow very quickly, they love my soil, they grow even when neglected but a bit of water in the first place will help them grow faster and then you can take cuttings from then sooner. I just take a few stems pop in the jar and water in a week or so later I can plant a bunch of mint.. I have them surrounding the bungalow... my primary reason for this was for Roland and his friends to keep them away, and also Minnie mouse and her friends.... but they keep flies away as well. I only bought this quantity of mint from the garden centre a couple of months ago... I bought 10 plants from one garden centre, and then when I found some more week later, another 15, because I wanted an instant mint hedge around the bungalow. They were different varieties of mint among this. Some are more heavily scented than others and I cannot tell you which ones because I didn't think about it at the time. But needless to say, I've been taking cuttings of the heavily scented ones and I've got even more growing.
