10.7 this morning day 13 since starting Metformin and day 6 of it being 500mg twice a day,
Got my appointment with the nurse at the GPs this morning, not really sure what to expect from it or if she has any knowledge of diabetes but I guess I’ll find out
 
“Although it can begin to influence blood sugar levels within a few days, it generally takes 3 to 4 weeks to reach its full and sustained effect.” Good luck with your appointment with the nurse! I hope they don’t make you feel they are judging you!

It certainly seems to have done something to my levels already as they had been sitting a lot higher, between 14-17 especially overnight, and I was waking up feeling really rubbish, I’ve started to feel a bit better in the morning but by the time I get home from work after a 12 hr day as an HCA with special needs kids I’m knackered and just want to go to bed, I’m still needing the go for a pee a lot, last night it was 3 times

FBG results are better today, but after a slight dip am still gaining weight. Not much, but enough that some clothes are uncomfortably tight. Think i need to lose about five to six kilos. Which would put me back into the officially underweight category I have lived in for all my life.(except when pregnant)
No cattery places available for Kiki at Christmas so yesterday spent a fun hour setting up and calibrating the new automatic cat feeder. Seems to work ok. Certainly when I woke this morning it had already dispensed the first meal and Kiki knew where to find it. Will probably work for the few days we are going to be away.
Have realised that while wine does not contain many carbs it does have calories, maybe not as many as biscuits, but will still need to cut down.
 
Hopefully a) a specialist diabetic nurse, b) who knows about diabetes and c) with up to date knowledge.
Knowledge is king.

According to Mrs Miggins’ FODMAP chart, a single serving of red wine (150ml) is a safe bet.
But that’s just as bad as smelling freshly brewed koffy and not being able to have any.
Anyhow, I do restrict myself to only one bottle a day
 
Good morning everyone on a chilly but pleasantly sun shiny start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north.

5.6 this a.m.

Mother reports that her carer was a bit late yesterday - they go shopping on Wednesdays and have koffy and croissants prior to the trolley dash. Luckily there were still croissants available, the lack of is a dread harbinger of something or other.

I made fajitas yesterday - no onion though - Mrs Miggins has been banned from all things allium apart from the green parts of spring onions. Out to lunch today, taking brother in law who doesn’t get out much. Probably just soup then for dinner. Hot and sour probably. I use monk fruit extract to add the sweetness.

Granddaughter, The Girl In The Bubble, is back from a week in Dubai with her parents today so she will be full of tales of high living, swimming pools and keeping to the shade. I think that mum and dad didn’t expect it to be as hot at this time of year - red faces all round perhaps.

Got some autumnal inks so having a play with them.

Hope your day is called Thursday! Not sure about mine but it does include koffy.

Morning all from a sunny but chilly L.A. where my fbg was shown as 4.6 by Libre at 06.54. That may be as good as today gets since I have already taken painkillers and will take Naproxen soon. Whilst it isn't funny, one has to laugh at the three of us wobbling about using walking sticks. As our grandson (a very wise 4 years old) said, at least you're not dead. He also seemed to know why Hovis is called Hovis (attached) His best offering came when his sister showed signs of a cold so Nanny sympathised. Colds aren't nice quoth she. Forthwith her brother said, there's no such thing as a warm that's my boy. @dunelm enjoy the meal and soup later and thank you for sharing the art. JKP tried Fodmap - no use at all so I hope it works/has worked better for Mrs Miggins. Did TGIB bring back any real Dubai chocolate or is that trend over now? I assumed the wine quip was humorous but humour doesn't always travel well in these posts. Y'all enjoy your Thursday now. Congratulations and hugs to all needing them.

Sad to say, our young friend failed his driving test. The reason? Not his driving but the fact that the air bag warning light came on (he hasn't had the car long but it has never done it in his experience). From the examiner's point of view, he had come for his test in a faulty vehicle, which was a fail! This means he has not only not got a driving license - he also won't get the job he was promised. The employer needs the job to be filled immediately. I know there are rules (I didn't know about that one) but it seems so cruel.

BG was 8.1 at 04.45 today. Been to get my legs bandaged and, this time, the requested blood test. I also stopped off with Neil at a new "Pre-loved" shop - some antiques but lots of mid century stuff as well. Wobbling around that shop was enough exercise to last me a week. Ouch!

In the middle of baking Halloween biscuits and cakes. So far so good, but I'm pretty shattered and I have to get them decorated by tonight so that Neil can deliver them tomorrow morning when he takes the Scenic in for its MOT.

No #2 birthday. Mid twenties now.
Mrs L is tired but is better.
we had an hour of purgatory this morning due to the carers HQ being completely thick.did
updating the pharmaceutical blister pack, in case, I am not there, and another carer, who doesn't know the meds are different than before, you know confusion?
we were very clear and careful about saying how many and dosage of every single different med.
the person on the other end of the phone was totally stupid. I asked did she understand the language? Who knows? It was torture.
Must go.
