5.6 this morning.

Mr K went out for the first time since his op. We did a little bit of shopping in Aldi and QD. He is doing really well.

“The Day My Name Was Never Called”

Today was one of those days that asks far too much of one...

The weather alone was more than enough - heavy rain, low visibility, reckless traffic, and the pressure of navigating the expressway while barely able to glance at the sat nav. I was already stretched thin before I arrived.

The reality of the old, crumbling site took me by surprise: broken entry doors, derelict buildings, rotten decaying windows, flooding, and no sense of welcome or comfort. Their café offered no hot food, which didn’t help after such a difficult journey. Toast and teacakes was too much carbs for me.

(In the hospital's defense. I have to say it was the cleanest hospital inside that I have ever been in... Spotlessly, flawlessly clean. I have been in modern hospitals that have not been as clean as that. This was Abergele Hospital in Wales. The diabetic retinopathy team had referred me)

But the hardest part was the silence.

My name was never called.

I waited for hours, checking with the nurses several times, trying to trust the process while my instincts told me something wasn’t right. Only when I finally told them I was leaving did they discover the truth: my records hadn’t been sent through from reception. I had been there the whole time - unseen on paper, and therefore unseen in the room.

Eventually when I saw the specialist, the doctor himself was kind, and slightly amused by my directness. Despite everything, he assured me they would keep an eye on me yearly, and that I could have cataract surgery when I felt ready - not before.

Unfortunately, the exam ended with bright lights that triggered a visual migraine, leaving me struggling to see in the dark car park. Two migraine tablets, some glucose tablets, and several cups of tea later, I regained my vision to be able to drive home, but instead of the horrendous rain of the morning, there were now worsening gusts of winds that pushed cars across lanes.

I finally made it home at 6:30 pm.
Safe and sound — but utterly drained.

When I had set off this morning, it was a beautiful peaceful sunny day...

Today tested me.
But I soldiered on, did what I needed to do, and got home safely despite every obstacle thrown at me.

Some days survival itself is an achievement.
Today was one of those days.


I still have my painting to paint for this post... I am running out of time. No time for a coloured painting... it is approaching the time of midnight...I have just been out in the garden... The winds were that bad the neighbours turned off their Christmas lights early tonight... And what a beautiful night sky... All this stardust scattered, and beautiful bright stars. With the naked eye I could see millions of stars...

I saw the Airbus taking off and gaining height when I got home... it flies over my bungalow, but for some reason the winds amplified the noise of the Airbus, and it sounded like the night sky was falling down...

Now I shall be brave and try and attach Mrs J’s latest painting, wish me luck. As I have said before these are adult paint by numbers and incredibly complicated.

A little tip if you want to shrink your waist size by 5 inches or 12.7 cm, see I am ambidextrous I can get myself into trouble in inches and centimetres. Just be ill.

What a dreadful time you've had, Gennepher. The missing-records-and -nobody-told -me happened to me as well, but the doctor was in a strop from having to wait behind and see me, so it was a wasted appointment devoid of empathy or professionalism. I'm so sorry you had to go through that and think you handled it very well.

It is not good is it... @Outlier

I was the last patient of the day as well because of these shenanigans...It was just too much...and I said my piece... But there's a price we have to pay afterwards to recover from it, for all that waiting and stress, and it takes a few days to get over it...

I knew I was waiting too long, which is why I asked the nurses on duty several times, but each time I was told not every patient is called in order, and some patients take longer than others so just for me to be patient.....and wait my turn... but unbeknown to me and them, my records had not been sent through from reception, even though I had booked in at reception...

I am going to be falling behind on stuff again because of this, and because of this incident, my headspace is not in a place I need to be to do my stuff...

The weather forecasts say that the storm is on its way out but it's still howling around the house at the moment. The rain has eased off though. No harm done, as far as I can tell. Ferries are off at least until tomorrow though - maybe longer. Sky can't decide whether to be grey, white or yellow.

EDIT: 14.40 - the wind is increasing again. So much for the storm passing.

Good evening everyone. I just had a very full set of data from my blood tests earlier (13.30 ish) today - no need to leave the car in Cambridge. Bg was 4 as was cholesterol. Take care, stay warm and maybe remember where those masks are.

Was still tired and wired up from yesterday...
No time to do a painting... I still have to recycle and black wheelie to deal with...
All i want to do is sleep...

That was so unprofessional of that doctor @Outlier
Actually it was quite horrible behaviour. You would have thought that he would have been really apologetic.

Mrs J here!! I want to say thank you to everyone for all your kind words about my painting. I used to be embarrassed to say I did paint by numbers but they actually take ages to do and I get an awful lot of pleasure doing them. They are very therapeutic

I am still very much wired and tensed up from Tuesday, but I am slowly winding down now...

Good morning everyone. It’s a go today and forgot to take a stab in a finger.

Down to daughter’s house this morning to take the Girl In The Bubble to school.
Now, just finished packing yet another bag.
Out to lunch with Mrs Miggins later.
Then a train to Manchester airport, staying in a nearby hotel overnight to catch the 0700 flight to Bordeaux.
My niece is meeting me at the airport and driving us up to my mother’s house. She will stay for the weekend but then has to be back in Bordeaux ready for work on Monday. I shall stay until I return home the following Friday.
