You are not short of diabetic ups and downs to negotiate @Cumberland. Is it the Cumberland genes, long time dealing with T1 or just chance that makes you so friendly and good at keeping people like me grounded? Whatever it is, hope things settle down for you and keep being a top.top fella.

Thanks. Driving to our house our grandson once looked out over miles of deserted Fenland landscape and claimed to be able to see Christmas tree lights because he was a far looker Glad the Drs appt was spiffing. I have just consulted Dr Google where I have been diagnosed with WIS (widespread intolerance syndrome) - Genetic condition but I will happily own it. Allegedly, not even upping fats can cure this one - I find that very funglikely

Ah yes thank you! I led a sheltered childhood, and even never knew the seriousness of the Cuban missile crisis until it resolved. So yes, told ya I knew I should know it!
Another undeserved red letter day-- FBG 5.3. I will pay for the late night peanut butter and yogurt but will enjoy this cheery 5.3 while it's here.

My family are Dubliners...many years ago my mothers older sister (aunty Molly) came over for my brothers wedding...prior to her arrival she had never been on an escalator so at Euston after some confusion with the mechanics of it she went up much of the escalator on her back...after that she had to have a 'tipple' to steady herself...when we arrived at the local station en' route to yet another aunty she slipped using the footbridge...so had to have a tipple at the local hotel before we walked the mile or so to the house...then on the way she had a slight tumble right outside the village pub...yes...another tipple was in order

Afternoon @ianpspurs and everyone,
As I briefly mentioned before, the tour was superb, driving through my old stomping ground of the Basque country in lashing rain and then bright sunshine, in and out of tunnels, round bend, up and down. Totally enthralling, terrifying and wonderful. We don't have a GPS and I can't map read to save the planet so I do all the driving. Loved every moment. It's a shame that the French have given up on the road sign of "Toutes routes" and now have a less appealing "Toutes directions". Loved "toutes routes" for the sound oooooooooooo and oooooooooooo.
Madam sans merci was a real wonder BG somersaulting and a surprise everyday. Consistently good food, octopus in A Coruna, crabs in St Vaast and amazing wine all the way!!

I can't disagree with that john...Harry is a legend...put his posh coat on he wouldn't walk properly in it...took it off...off he went and got lashed/soaked by the rain so the house smells of wet dog & the floors are filthy but wouldn't have him any other way

I didn't know much about it either 'til after the fact. Sometimes looking back it's as if the people who wrote the history books didn't really live in the times. At least, I've found that to be the case with many books about the Beatles ...

They say of the 1960s, "If you can remember it, you weren't there," but I was there and I remember it, only others sometimes seem to remember a different 1960s!
 
@gennepher re your supplements!!!! I take two anticholinergic meds, which dry me up something fierce. My multi-vit is not heavy on E, although I've been taking a hefty dose of cod liver oil in solidarity w autistic kid (now grown) for nearly 20 years. I'm always assuming my dry mouth is from the inhaler that is known to cause it, and the eyes to old age and ALLERGIES!!!
So oh my gosh to hear you tell of the CoQ10 helping with the Reynaud's!!!! I had it bad all winter (wearing blue exam gloves all day long helps with that lol) and it's still persisting into the warmer weather. My symptoms have been very dependent on my weight, so with the amount I lost eating LC, Reynaud's reappeared with a vengeance. Will try some CoQ10! Thanks so much for mentioning that! Touching ice!!! Snowballs with Bare Hands!!! Can't wait.
@HarrisonK I hope your trip was bearable! Personally I think one can earn one's meltdowns over, say, 40. But having raised a HF but nevertheless autistic kid with definite touches of Asperger's, and another who started on the spectrum and grew up into a shadowy Aspie, and disliking crowds myself, and finding that Mom's dementia symptoms can be ameliorated by giving her the same considerations I gave my autistic toddler, I think I can relate a little! Geriatric gangsta, five stars for laugh out loud!
@HarrisonK and @gennepher the only people who got away with hugging my son until he hit maybe 26, 27, were my mother and his favorite aunt. He has improved to the point where he will tolerate hugs from huggy girls his age, and he's always been very good with hand shaking thank goodness. I doubt he will ever hug me...
@ianpspurs re nutrition101: my bro, 54, has kept his HbA1c around 6.1 and his lipids at numbers a baby in utero would envy by eating every vegetable on his radar, lean meat, no sweets except if out with Mom, and whole grain bread when he has to have bread. Pretty Mediterranean WOE. He's a pilot, and spends more time eating airport and hotel food than he does home cooking, so he has to work pretty hard to find good foods. As a pilot, he's not allowed to take diabetes meds, and he said the statins were awful. For years he was a faithful runner, thinking nothing of 10 miles on an afternoon layover, but has aged into some arthritis so has had to give that up. Is any of that helpful?

That is enough to send anybody over the edge. I am soooo sorry, all that work you did contentedly making the area yours again, ruined by bureaucracy. . "You won't have to pay" baloney! Stress levels are less bearable than paying a bill. But dern tootin' you'd better not get a bill. When you're feeling better, you might approach that neighbor who seems to have made an unauthorized call on your behalf. Calm thoughts and prayers coming your way.
 
Thanks for the info on your brother's nutrition. I like the basics of that plan - I have no idea where to pitch my ambition for what a long term level for bg should be - I don't feel especially "safe" where I am. I do know I probably shouldn't shed anymore weight and I am not topping up with fat just to see all my nutrients disappear down the loo
 
And that is exactly what you expect from a bulldog!! Well that's just like having Bulldog "Glitter" around the house, our two are point blank refusing to leave the house as they may melt! Cue one VERY bored Sidney, which means no towel or blanket is safe now.
 
Dogs have now been walked and dried off. I will admit that there is a slight aroma of at dog around but I have lit an odour eliminating candle so hopefully it will not longer too long. One of my dogs drys almost instantly but the other one stays damp for days. Better go and feed them they do a great line in reproachful looks if I am a couple of minutes late feeding them.
 
My visit to the Basque country was during the Franco era (My parents...planet...?)
We saw eagles flying above the Picos de Europa. So many happy memories.
But the memory I really want is not "Homage to Catalonia" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls"
This memory is entitled: "How I beat Type Two Diabetes". (Literary Agent: might need to work on that title.)
 

I was bitten by a shrew once when rescuing it from my then-cat. Lived to tell the tale -- that there was no taming of the shrew that day.
