Congratulations to M Renault and to you. My sympathies to Mr B (I am NOT good at waiting for latecomers -- although surely by this time the loft conversion man has arrived).

FBG 7 even for me this morning and I am breakfasting on antacids because heartburn it making it impossible to eat anything. KittenCat is fine, however, having breakfasted on treats followed by some chicken. ^. .^

Sadly I have fallen out with all organised religion, still Christian principles but no time for churches. The West Gallery Quire I sing in let's me sing all the great tunes from 1700 to 1850 without having to go to church, win win all round.

I haven't set foot in a church for years except to visit one local one during a weekday where I was blessed -- quite literally -- to hear the 4-manual pipe organ. I love it when they make the floor vibrate.

As I understand it, the "farm state" in this case is Iowa, which is known for agriculture. This quote sums it up:

Farms make up about 92 percent of Iowa's land; only Nebraska has a higher percentage of farmland. About one-third of the best farmland in the United States is located in Iowa. Most of the state's residents are in someway [sic] dependent upon Iowa's fertile soil and many crops.
Iowa is usually first or second in the country in the production of corn, oats, soybeans, cattle, milk, and calves. The state harvests so much corn that it has been called the "Corn State" and "the land where tall corn grows." Because corn is one of the main ingredients in hog feed, Iowa leads the country in hog production, raising about a quarter of the nation's total.

Thanks @SaskiaKC I had just about come to that conclusion but wasn't sure. Iowa comes up as The Hawkeye state on google and appears to come 2nd by % to California by cash receipts from agriculture. Isn't Cal The Golden State?

Yes, "The Golden State" is California's official nickname, just as "The Hawkeye State" is Iowa's. I think the writer of that Washington Post article was just using the term "farm-state" as a descriptor for Iowa since it is a major farming state. I was confused by the term when I first looked at the title of the article. I would have just written "Iowa" or perhaps "farming state." Maybe he used the term as a hook to get readers to continue past the title.
 
P.S., @ianpspurs I don't do politics, so I may be way off-base with this next bit, but -- just as a guess -- the writer of the article may have been subtly poking fun at Iowa in calling it a "farm-state". I'm guessing this because he goes on to describe the ethanol plant as an "industrial moonshine operation," which might be taking another stab by using a "rural," "redneck" term. The Washington Post is a very liberal-biased newspaper, and Iowa is known as a very conservative state.
I repeat, I'm just guessing. I am not a political animal of any stripe.
