Before I made today's kaleidoscope, I had to deal with Midnight, my large and very opinionated cat, who knew his eardrops were coming before his breakfast. No eardrops then he has no breakfast (he loves his tummy). I had nought seconds to put the drops in his ear and get away, before he shakes his head with a violent force that ejects the eardrops, greater than the distance than a human sneeze projects....

Creative is a kaleidoscope of the Honesty from yesterday...

ALT text (this is the text I have written to be embedded in the photo, where apps allow it, for blind or partially sighted people)
“A vibrant kaleidoscope pattern made from purple Honesty flowers. The design forms a bright, symmetrical circle with rich pink, violet, and green tones, radiating from a central flower-like star. The outer edges fade into black, giving the impression of a broken or incomplete border (some how as I was putting this through Snapseed I lost the two sides of the circle and I have no idea how I did this, but I liked it so I left it!) The mirrored petals create a lively, almost glowing effect, with layers of green foliage peeking through the background.”

Time for a nap now...

No sun today....

Can vividly imagine Midnights reaction to the ear drops.
Brings back memories of Errant who was so compliant that he sat on my legs, I put drops in, then massage drops deeper into his ears and he just sat there and let me do it. Only shaking his head a little after he had got off my lap.
I miss him still.

One of those days again...

Yesterday I got another letter from the credit card bank that has not been allowing me to contact it online because it says it doesn't have my phone number nor my email address. It should have...

On the letter yesterday, it said that it was unable to pay my current credit card bill because it did not have my direct debit details and it said that my bank has stopped them. I have never paid for this account by direct debit. I have always transferred the money the moment I receive the paper bill, but the paper bills have been arriving late, leaving me to guesstimate what I should pay to their bank.

I have already paid the bill they are talking about in this weird letter, and I paid a bit extra to make sure it is covered. So I know the letter is lying...

I looked at the letter and I thought scam simply because of the details. Sent a message to ChatGPT and ChatGPT said that was an elaborate scam. So, I said I was going to talk it through with my daughter this morning. Which I did and she said immediately that's an elaborate scam.
So explain to my daughter in Australia that I've not been able to get through to this building society so she got her phone went through site found a phone number rang it. And she said that she was ringing on behalf of her mum, explained the situation. And said her mum wanted to talk to a real person face-to-face to sort this out, which I did because there's a few things to sort out. I was given a choice of times and dates and venues of different of their banks... I chose one and now I am getting ready for it with the paperwork I need.

Both ChatGPT and my daughter kept reiterating me not to respond to the one that appears an elaborate scam (but I can't telephone because I am deaf) and to give them my bank details...but the letter is absolutely perfect and looks like it's come from my credit card bank

It’s important to watch out for scams that seem too elaborate, especially when they involve requests for sensitive information like bank details. This one was an actual letter trying to panic me to part with my credit card details, but I have confirmation from my bank that I have been paying each month. And I also have confirmation from my credit card card broker company that I am totally up-to-date with every payment I sent to my credit card company...

So I'm going to get ready for that and I am not going to take the original document in that is the original letters which look like a scam in case I need to use them to go further with something and this says that I've got the proper record of something.

Creative is a painting I have done of a tree and I'm not doing a description today. I'm tired.

It is a hot day here and my iPad is heating up..

So I think it's naptime now

Take care...

Thank you for that .

I'm lucky I tolerate the met just fine
And it is slow release.

It's definitely the duloxatine, it's one of many side effects, of which I'm hitting a few.

But it does ease as I move through the month.

Which would be fine if it wasn't back to square one each time it's upped.

I think the goal is 120...currently sat at 90, so one more month of upset at least .

Good thing is it's easing the constant nerve pain in leg & it doesn't seem to impact the BG too badly ...which is nice

Take care
Hope your day is nice and settled.
Enjoy
Read your previous post, but had no idea how to comment or reply.
Am happy to read your report of lessening pain. Hope you can continue without the side effects soon.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.

It would be a massive mistake to publish my blood sugars.

Last Saturday night, early Sunday morning I was admitted into hospital with low blood sugars, a life threatening 1.5 and was discharged from hospital late yesterday.afternoon.
Throughout this recent stay in hospital, I found the staff brilliant. In hindsight I the time and motion consultants have been brought in.

I have a number of medical issues rattling around at the moment and the medics are looking for a cause, heart, lungs, liver, existing medication etc, etc and the medics due to my dangerously low blood sugars in the middle of the night have fitted me with a Freestyle Libre 2 plus sensor. Also they have taken me off some of my medications and decreased the dosage of others. Warfarin, Insulin.

During my younger life sporting or otherwise I have had a number of close calls, but Saturday night, Monday morning was the closest according to the medics.

Now it is 18:07 on a Friday night and it ain’t alright for fighting. These days :)

Maybe i should post a few of Kiki's recent exploits. She is getting to be quite a character, fortunately no longer so much in the French sense of the word.
It would be nice to see Kiki again, and in her new surroundings... and then we can have a peek also where you are now @SlimLizzy

Realy pleased for you and yours that the medics sorted you out. Recovering from 1.5, what can one say. I hope that the alarm system on the Libre 2 paired with your phone keeps you for diving into that again. Glad you are back.

1.5! My goodness. Thank heaven they took you into hospital and that you now have a Libre sensor. It is a really useful tool and will help you to keep track of your BG.

I don't think I posted fbg today. It was 6.7.
Today has flown by. It started with a walk in the park, then Bonnie's trainer came, then lunch, another dog walk, then admin and then classes.
Not forgetting several cups of coffee.
A good day - now some relaxing and reading time - and just maybe one more coffee.

Creative...Speedwell...
A pretty little wild flower...

From Google: "Germander speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys) has been used traditionally for various purposes, including as a remedy for respiratory issues, nervous system disorders, and even as a tea substitute. It also serves as a valuable nectar source for solitary bees and food source for certain butterflies and moths. "

It's been a while and I'm not quite sure how to post photos now.
Oh well. Here goes.
If it works it's Kiki enjoying the last rays of the evening sun. At that time the sun had left the garden entirely, you can see by the shadows on the wall, but up on there it's still shining.
Screenshot_20250517-010650_Gallery.jpg

This was at about 8pm this evening. I was still out there weeding. Sounds bad, but we had been out most of the day and the weeds are flourishing. MrSlim had made dinner so afterwards I popped outside to water and continue the clearing.
The house had been empty over a year and we think the garden neglected before then so masses of weeds in the overgrown flower beds, knee high grass and a jungle of bamboo, brambles and reeds (?)plus weeds and tussock grass at the end. After three months am still only halfway down one side and maybe a third down the other. But it's progress.
We have some beautiful roses.

Fbg 6,8.

When I was 10 years old, I used to read 12 library books a week.

You were allowed four library tickets then. So, armed with my own four, my little brother’s four, and four each from my parents, plus my mother’s wicker shopping basket, I could cart home twelve books every week.

The librarian argued with me once, saying I couldn’t borrow adult books using my parents’ tickets. I told her a lie. I said they weren’t for me, that my parents had asked me to get them. I still remember that moment of hesitation before she said, “Okay.”

The children’s books I borrowed were mostly picture books, because I loved them, things like Orlando the Marmalade Cat and the Madeleine series. But it was the adult books I truly loved. I read authors like Nevil Shute, Josephine Tey, Ralph Ellison, Ray Bradbury (and loads of other science fiction writers), Joseph Heller, Robert Heinlein, Aldous Huxley, Graham Greene, John Buchan, Dennis Wheatley, and of course, all the Agatha Christie novels… and many more.

I must have been a speed reader, even then. I couldn’t read slowly. The words would run in rivers down the page, dance all over the place, or leave strange gaps. My parents tried to make me slow down, but that only made the words lose all sense. I’m still like that today, I need to read fast to understand anything.

Now I have prescription green-tinted glasses for reading. They help hold the words together a bit more, especially when I try to read slowly or work through a document, which I often still can’t make head or tail of.

I did ask my optician recently if I could have Irlen lenses in my glasses. He said they were expensive and advised waiting until I’d seen the hospital cataract specialist, in case I decide to have the cataract in my other eye done. Only then would he consider it. Fair enough.

So that’s a bit of my reading history. As a child, I read many authors from the 1920s and ’30s, because those were the books stored in my attic bedroom at the farm. There were many words I didn’t understand at the time, but if you read something often enough, you begin to get the gist. Some of those books were from the 19th century. I used to read them by candlelight all night, we didn’t have electricity on the farm.

My drawing today is a sketch of me getting my library books from a mobile library, when I lived in town.

It’s far too hot today, and I struggled to draw...it’s not my best effort.

I hope it’s not too hot for you…

Have no idea how many library books I read in a week when I was 11, but I stopped at the library on my way home from school, read until it closed maybe more than one book and then took three books home with me.
A less generous allowance than yours gennepher.
Usually I would return all three the next day and repeat the process. Sunday's were hell, I frequently ran out of books and had to watch tv with my siblings.

I just asked Google if the co op website was down because just now I was unable to log in, it said my username was incorrect, it wasn't, because it was set up with this username yesterday and in the Co-op bank itself...
And it said
"...some parts of their IT system are shut down due to a potential cyber threat..."
To me, that is very telling and not surprising given everything yesterday in the co op bank. Between the evasive “invisible colleague,” the lack of proper access to my own statements, while in the co op, and the minimal info I got off the site earlier this morning, because it explained I had changed to paperless statements and so it could not give me full info.

If parts of their IT system are shut down due to a cyber threat, it might explain:
• Inconsistencies between devices
• Why the website wasn’t showing my full account history
• The lack of proper clear communication from bank staff as I found yesterday.

I am starting a pros and cons list whether to stay with them. At the moment it appears I should look for another credit card account that is more reliable....

I had not intended talking about this part of yesterday today, but the saga continues...

The rest of yesterday....
As you can see from my drawing from my day yesterday, I had an amazing conclusion to the day…

I’d found a great parking space right in front of the library, museum, and art gallery...which I intended to visit before heading home.

But first, I was just sitting in the car, looking at the museum and watching people go past. For some reason, I never thought of drawing them...kicking myself afterwards…

Then a man with a bag walked right up the steps to the top, outside the museum. He started removing his clothes. Fortunately, only the top half. He turned to face the sun, held one hand out palm-up towards it, and then reached into his bag… and took out a pair of boxing gloves. He began shadowboxing! Mostly uppercuts, it seemed. I took some photos, but he was quite a distance away.

About half an hour later, he came down the steps and had a word with a woman who had a shopping trolley, then returned to the top and resumed boxing again…

Meanwhile, I’d set up my mobility scooter to get to my Co-op appointment. Recently I’ve been wondering about getting a smaller scooter, thinking it might fit better in a smaller car. But the moment I began driving over the huge old paving slabs and cobblestones, impossible to avoid at that point, I was instantly reminded of needing the loo, and wondering if the scooter would cope! I also knew there was no way a smaller scooter would survive this terrain…

I reached my Co-op appointment. A couple of hours later, I left.

I decided to drive around a bit and see which shops were still there and how things had changed. I visited a few of my old haunts. The people were different, but the shops smelled the same. They didn’t recognise me—I suspect they were the children of the people I used to know, still running the businesses. I didn’t say who I was, but I mentioned to one lad that I’d been coming there since the 1970s. Maybe he’ll tell his dad when he gets home…

Wandering down Bold Street, I spotted the Cat Café—I’d heard of it! It was full of cats, but alas, closed on Tuesdays. It’s £4 for 15 minutes to sit with the cats… I get that for free at home.

Finally, after three hours, I noticed my scooter battery was running low. I hoped I had enough left to get back to the museum and library, and I made it, with three bars still showing.

I risked going into the art gallery on my scooter, but it wasn’t easy. The heavy doors between rooms made it quite a challenge for a disabled person. So I left.

Then I visited the library. It had changed completely since I last saw it years ago. Back then, it was all oak panelling and dark brown. It looked like a library. Now it’s thoroughly modern, and to my surprise, I actually liked it. I normally hate modernised libraries.

I went straight to the counter.

“I live in Wales,” I said, “and I know this is Liverpool in England, but I’d love to borrow some books. Is that possible?”

“Oh yes,” said the man. “Just fill in a couple of little forms and show a letter with your address on, from a utility company or similar.”

“Oh, that’s alright,” I said. “I’ve just been to the Co-op where I had to prove my identity.” I pulled out a pile of papers from my bag.

“Just one of those will do,” he laughed.

“How many books can I borrow?” I asked.

“Fourteen,” he replied.

“FOURTEEN?!”

I said, in total shock. “You don’t even know me, I’ve just walked in, and I’m from another country!”

He laughed.

Later, I had a lovely chat with an elderly gentleman in the science fiction section. Come to think of it, I’m an elderly woman… We talked about Terry Pratchett and Josh Kirby, the illustrator of some of his books. My partner, J, was the same age as Josh Kirby and studied at Liverpool School of Art at the same time, so I had plenty of stories to share—and the gentleman had lots of his own, too.

How many books did I get?

FOURTEEN!!!

Hence today’s creative illustration.

Have a good day!

Going to read my first library book now...

Four pounds to sit for 15 minutes with the cats! Money for old rope. Not even time for a cup of tea, that's if they serve food and drinks?
And I love your tale about the visit to the library fourteen books, that should keep you quiet for a day or two.
If the system is still the same you can return them at your local library.
