I’d suggest getting in touch with whoever makes the pen your after. Tell them how you use their insulin daily they should give you one. It’s worth a try, i can’t believe your diabetic nurse won’t give you a half unit pen, they are not just for children. I use half unit doses every jab for my humulin s. Was half unit dosing with my novorapid as well. I got mine from my nurse without a prescription, I just bumped into her at the clinic and asked for one and within 2 weeks it was here. I also get my Lilly pens on prescription from my gp. It’s actuallu on repeat. You need to have backups around also in case one breaks or you loose one. Where abouts are you from?A very reasonable 5.1 at 6.45 a.m.
My new humalog pen should be here soon; I had to buy my own because my diabetic nurse won't prescribe a half dose humalog pen for me as they're only for children. I'm funding my own (again!) as I value the control that half-units give me. Oddly, I got a Novopen Echo on prescription for basal and that does half units. Very strange.
Is there an actual time frame for new pen syringes? My old humalog pen has been in use for about 6 years now and I suppose that's why it's falling apart. I'm gonna miss it; old friend used several times a day for many years!
Also the shop here asked me if I have a VAT certificate. I don't know what that is. Any ideas?
Have you tried sambucol yet? I swear by it now I’ve had a few sniffles. Comes highly advised from Dr Bernstein. 1g carb per pastel, I get mine from Holland and Barrett’s.11.3 for me full of cold again and coughed all night so dont think cough sweets or the glug of medicine has helped hence the high bg have a good day all
This is a copy and paste from a comment I just posted. But relevant for you as well..bm-18.2mmol
ketones- 2.3mmol
very high for me this morning. Think I have a stinking cold coming as my head feels a bit stuffy and my eyes are burning, all topped off my a sore throat and cough of course
I’ve had 12 units correction as when I have ketones I become insulin resistant, so hopefully they will come downas got a lot of coursework to be doing today
Your basal could be running out. It depends what doses your on and when you have taken it. I’m on levemir now on split doses. Was on lantus 8 units in the evening before bed. Was finding just after tea was starting to wear off.Delighted to be 6.9 this morning so at least I'm now in the range of 5-8 (which my DN told me was target)
Yesterday my BG stayed fairly steady during the day but rose to 10 just before bed. Thinking that could be maybe because my basal was starting to 'run out'? (is this even possible?)
Have a great and healthy day everyone.......

Can get them on amazon too, think they are about £1 more on there though so I get mine when I go to town and keep a stock in the cupboard. Really good as soon as you get the start of a sore throat or cough. Good immune boost. Secret is black elderflower with zinc and vit c..I’ve never heard of that before; I’ll have a look in Holland and Barrett’s if I go into town today.
Many thanks
It’s a possibility, although I don’t know the profile of abasaglar. I know that levemir says it’s 2 hours before takes effect.I take Abasaglar and started on 8 units but as my BG wasn't coming into range I upped it to 9 units 3 days ago. I usually take it at 2230 each night but last night I fell asleep in front of the TV, alarm didn't wake me up and I ended up taking it an hour late. That's when I checked my BG so thought it might have been 'running out'. Thanks for your reply - it's good to know that it is possible for basal to 'run out' and I'll maybe hold onto that thought for now to explain the rise.
I’ve just had a look at the profile of abasaglar, it’s the same as lantus, gets in its stride after about 2-3 hours. Sometimes I find having a nap can have a rising effect on my sugars upon waking. You could of been tired which can put more pressure on our systems.I take Abasaglar and started on 8 units but as my BG wasn't coming into range I upped it to 9 units 3 days ago.
