What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

In the right, the lancet's gleaming bright
The ritual has begun, stabbie's work is done
6.6
the glucose of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

Well, it is Friday. And it'll probably be a modest sacrifice, like a sardine salad.. Which wouldn't ryhme.

I’d suggest getting in touch with whoever makes the pen your after. Tell them how you use their insulin daily they should give you one. It’s worth a try, i can’t believe your diabetic nurse won’t give you a half unit pen, they are not just for children. I use half unit doses every jab for my humulin s. Was half unit dosing with my novorapid as well. I got mine from my nurse without a prescription, I just bumped into her at the clinic and asked for one and within 2 weeks it was here. I also get my Lilly pens on prescription from my gp. It’s actuallu on repeat. You need to have backups around also in case one breaks or you loose one. Where abouts are you from?

You don’t need a certificate either just tell them your diabetic.

I'm in Devon. The pen I use is a Lilly Humapen Luxura HD. I have a diabetic review and HbA1c due at the end of March; I'll have another go at the nurse and see if I get anywhere. They do try to be helpful but they are a large practice and they have this eagle eyed penny pinching grasper there who made us all have our meds re-assessed by a rep from big pharma they brought in. (I was fuming; no-one asked if I minded them sharing my medical info with this pharmacist, and I know **** well he'll have it all in his computer now). My meds remained unchanged after a fairly bolshie interview (on my part).

Then this week I got a letter telling me that yet another big pharma rep was advising on glucose meter changing so that all their diabetic patients use one of just a few approved meters. I know that's standard now but why call in outside help to decide which meter I need? Obviously in order to make his decision he read my medical records without my consent. I feel like asking why they don't just post them online for all to see because my privacy obviously means naff all to them.

Sorry for the rant and thanks for your suggestions; very helpful :)

That’s the same pen I use. I have a spare I could send and probs say I lost one and get it replaced. Because they should be free to you also. We live in the same county. Pay the same taxes. That sounds like a joke though.

That’s disgusting, I would not be sitting with any rep from a pharma company whatsoever to discuss what I use for my diabetes. Blood monitor should be your choice on what’s best for you and consistently performs to the highest accuracy. I use the Dario, standard they will give out those dodgy gluco rx ones. I was palmed off with one. I used to have the true view twisty top one. Excellent little machine.

As for them reading through your records. That should be out of the question in terms of data protection. I noticed something in my surgery about going online with your records and appointments and you had to op out of data being shared. I imagine your surgery is relying on some sort of cash kick back from the companies involved. It happened with Abbott with those trial libres. They did well from me having one for 2 weeks. I self funded for 3 months after that.

Hello all.

This morning's blood sugars were 4.9.

@karen8967 -- sorry to hear about your cold. Take care and get well soon.
@Granny_grump_ -- good luck with your review today. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks@ ziggy_w review went exceptionally well HbA1c was 40 Trigs 1.3. HDL 1.85 LDL was 4 cholesterol was 6.4 down from 7.5 September 2017 diabetic nurse very pleased with my results asked what I had done to lose weight and maintain BG so I told her but for Diabetes.co.uk I wouldn't be so well and in control, and if I'd followed the NHS diet for diabetics I'd never have control Has after being diabetic for so many years I cannot now tolerate many carbs, she asked what foods I eat,so I told her my daily foods and carb substitutes like cauliflower rice extra veg to fill up on. She said she hadn't tried cauliflower rice yet,and told hubby to listen to me on how to maintain his type2 diabetes his blood pressure is through the roof he has to increase his meds to get it down. I'm on no meds just diet controlled! So very pleased with what I've managed to achieve in last 12/18 months. Looks like you too are well on track thank goodness for this site and all the wonderful and knowledgeable people on here wouldn't have done it without you all! THANKYOU! K

I’ve just had a look at the profile of abasaglar, it’s the same as lantus, gets in its stride after about 2-3 hours. Sometimes I find having a nap can have a rising effect on my sugars upon waking. You could of been tired which can put more pressure on our systems.
Thanks so much for checking this out for me. And I suppose it could also have therefore been the fatigue..... Thanks for sharing that
