What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

My fasting blood sugar was 10.2 this morning at 6 am.

I had been hoping it would be lower than that. Ate sensibly yesterday. Just a tiny scrap of chocolate for my afternoon treat. My blood sugars a few hours after my last meal at 3 pm (I cannot eat a meal later than that because of GERD problems, especially when asleep) was 6.7. I was pleased with that.

But I had a strange night sleep. I slept like the dead between 9pm and 11pm, and woke up at 11pm convinced I had slept the night through. Very confusing.

The rest of the night was on and off sleep. I wasn't worrying or thinking, just lying there waiting for sleep. Finally at 3 am I decided to get up and do something useful, and promptly fell asleep before I got out of bed.

So an odd night's sleep contributed to the higher fasting blood sugar?

There's no way of working out direct cause and effect, just possibilities.

Anyway. Clear blue skies. A frost in the night. I tidied the area by my thatched swing yesterday. So as soon as the sun hits the swing (I live a little high up so I have to wait for the sun to find my garden), I will be out there with my black and white cat enjoying the morning sun...

Morning all! Brass monkeys here. Brr. New gas boiler, condenser, puffing out lots of supposed cool condensate. I have my doubts over the efficiency claims. Winter gas bill was same as last year.

0700. FBG seems stuck at 8.7 mmo/lt. Seeing the doc about another matter next week, so will discuss tweeking the meds.

Weight still coming down, so could leave the meds. How does the old Lennon/McCartney song go? ".....the long and winding road....that leads to low BG...

Oh you are talking about a Terry’s Chocolate orange! Yes lovely - we always had them at Christmas too. Think they would be too carby for me these days.

Morning all. No fbg to report as I stayed at my daughter’s last night and forgot to check I had enough strips. Just popping in to say hi though.
I also went through a Daphne DuMaurier phase @JohnEGreen and loved them. Agree @karen8967 the old film of Rebecca is great - very haunting
I must look out for that book @SaskiaKC I feel very lucky to be moving down to Cornwall, it is beautiful here. Yesterday I went to Truro shopping. I’m trying not to use my SatNav so I cannlearn my way round, but got in the wrong traffic lane coming home and ended up going the wrong way. Back in London I’d have got stressed and probably ended up somewhere horrible like the Slough Industrial estate, but yesterday I decided to make an adventure of it. I ended up in Perranporth, had a coffee and a walk aling the beach in the sunshine then pottered back home feeling very happy.
@PenguinMum do you still come down to Cornwall on your hols?

( For those who are able to withstand the cultural differences, I'd recommend Goa as a stepping stone into India proper . It truly is breathtaking in its culture, acceptance of life itself, and friendliness of its people's.)

It's the only place we've been were We have both turned and said "**** me..did you see THAT"..And not once but dozens of times.
Truly eye opening experience those first few times, and even now, so many years after we still stand and stare in bewilderment/awe at some of the sights we have seen

Anyway back to earth with a bump...
No cats crying at our door...
No dogs padding up for a pat, snuggles or just plain old begging for food...lol

Yesterday work via cattle truck..sorry I meant tfl n southern rail..ok-ish.
Today more of smile, back on the bike..

But the drive don't seem right if I'm not dodging cows, somehow...oh well.

FBG seems stuck at 6.3..(sand in the meter, maybe.. )

Morning All. 6.0 today but no exercise apart from 4 hours of foot pedals yesterday and a very short and slowdog walk.
@jjraak welcome home and I cant tell you how much I enjoyed the Goa travelogue. Do you go every year? @gennepher sounds like you and your cat should have a snooze on the sofa this aft.
@DJC3 we do go every year but mix it up a bit now its just the two of us. I like the drama of the north coast but this year for a change we are going south, two nights in Porthleven, two nights in Fowey and one night on Exmoor in June. I would move to Cornwall in a heartbeat if it wasnt for being so far away from the boys but never say never!

Sounds like a perfect break - we are not too far from Fowey, and spent part of our honeymoon there. First time I ever had lobster - caught fresh that morning.
Having 2 daughters and granddaughters already living in Cornwall made it a very easy decision for us to move here. I wouldn’t have done so while my dad was still alive though.
This year to mix it up, we are going to the Scottish Highlands and islands for a holiday. Flying up from Newquay airport which is only a 10 min cab drive away, and quite reasonably priced.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen. Perhaps I shouldn't segregate separate portions of the population for this section of my morening posting, like the overly politically correct brigade just in case I offend them, but then they don't care about my feelings so stuffem' ( wif garlic then kebab on the BBQ ). I am well into my 3rd childhood and all I'm interest in is my motorbike and of course my skateboad.

A surprising 5.5 or me this morning.

Well folks have you been following the articles on black holes, nope me neither. I'm more interested in hot and cold dark matter.

Good morning all. Woke up to 4.8 today. Yesterday visit to the Cologne art fair was fun -- though it wasn't quite as large as I seem to remember. Had some wine with my husband afterwards -- so pretty much a perfect day.

@jjraak -- Glad you got home safely, not surprised that you still miss Goa though.
@Goacher55 -- Based on what I've read, lack of sleep increases insulin resistance temporarily. If you are on low-carb though, I would think it might not make too much of a difference to your actual blood sugar numbers.
@SaskiaKC -- My overall cholesterol is pretty much the same as when I was diagnosed, however the different components have changed on low carb. HDL is up (about twice what it was before) and trigs are considerably down (about one-fourth to one-third of what it was before).
@gennepher -- For the first half year after diagnosis, my fasting blood sugars were still high, but this changed as time went on. This is called the dawn phenomenon and the thinking is that this is due to the insulin resistance in T2s. The body releases counterregulatory hormones (cortisol, epinephrine, growth hormone, glucagon) to give us energy to start the day. At the same time we release insulin (if we still make it), however, if we are insulin resistant, the insulin isn't as effective as in normal people and blood sugars remain at a higher level.

@JohnEGreen -- I am similar to you. If I stumble across a book I enjoy, I end up reading everything by this author.

What I used to do was turn my sat nav off then drive in random directions till I was thoroughly lost then turn sat nav back on and let it take me home could turn your day into a true adventure especially with some of those obscure and windy narrow country lanes, Not always for the feint hearted though.

I lived in Padstow for several years when stationed at RAF St. Morgan and being brought up in Plymouth, Cornwall was a stones throw away well almost.
