What's a good diet to lose 10 pounds fast?

So...my friend who was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes says her doctor thinks she could stand to lose 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms); he thinks she's eating too many carbs and wants her to cut back. I totally understand, but even though my friend and I are very close, I would never tell her what to eat. I think that's what keeps our friendship so strong, we don't force things on each other, we respect one another's judgement and don't police each other around. But, when it comes to the weight issue, the both of us can lose 10 pounds. I actually didn't think I had to, but my boyfriend (the ******!) brought it to my attention the other day. Instead of "hey, how's it going?" the first words out of his mouth when he came over were, "You've put on weight, miss." He has a sexy Indian accent and his eyes twinkle when he smiles, so I can forgive (the jerk!) anything! I made up some story about taking more insulin, but he didn't buy it. The fact is, I've been eating peanut butter (right out of the jar!). I normally don't go for peanut butter -- I prefer chocolate -- but I've been craving it BAD! OK, now that it's out in the open, anyone know a good diet to lose 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) fast? (Like...yesterday?) Thanks so much!

My friends give and take advice freely .... it's what friends are for.
Who else is there?

Low carb higher fat is the one that works for most. It's more a life change not diet as you can stay on it always when you get the right balance.
Peanut butter is good when the carbs are cut as it can replace the energy lost from the low carb intake which is good for many things.
You may also find that you can cut back on your insulin aswell.

Low carb.

Low-carb might work for her, she eats way more carbs than I do! But I already eat a relatively low-carb diet, so I can't see how it will help me. I really want to lose 10 pounds FAST! I'm a little squishy in the middle, not very sexy! Any ideas? Thanks!

Low carb high fat?

You really shouldn't play around with your insulin too much. I mean, I know you can safely play with your insulin 2 units at a time, but you really should consult your doctor, first, before you make any major changes. I don't know how much lower I can go, carbwise, I'm already on a pretty low-carb diet as it is. Anybody here have any success with the Paleo diet? I hear people can lose a bunch of weight fast on the Paleo plan. Let me know! Thanks!

That seems to be the general consensus!
I got rid of three stones in under four months.
Half a stone of that keeps popping it's head back up now and then.

Stones, huh? What's a stone, like 14 pounds or something? Hang on, let me Google it...OK, it's official, 1 stone = 14 pounds! Wow, congrats! It's not going to be easy cutting out the carbs for me, I hardly eat any at all. Anything else? Thanks!

Low carb as others have said. If you aren't losing weight then it's likely you can cut the carbs further. How many gms do you eat each day?

The thing is, I'm not overweight, even now, with the 10 extra pounds, I wouldn't call myself overweight. I weigh 130 pounds (58 kilograms), so all I really want to do is lose those pesky 10 pounds I put on just recently. I don't count carbs, I don't eat very much. There's nothing to count. I don't have much of an appetite.

Definitely low carb high(er) fat. But watch all the calories too - and just make sure that food eaten (be it counted in carbs, protein, fat, calories, whatever...) is less than energy expended. Even on low carbs you can eat more than you need to and it can make you more cuddly.

. . . . . anyone know a good diet to lose 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) fast? (Like...yesterday?) Thanks so much!

The bottom line is that you don't want to lose any weight fast, you want to lose it at a suitable rate, one or two pounds a week, and permanently. Rapid loss is a recipe for yo yo weight loss/gain.

How you do it is a the $64,000,000 question. Baring in mind the diabetes, low carb is a good start and I refer to just low carb, don't worry about high fat so much, you want to lower calories as well. The recommendation is 500 calories a day less than your Basic Metabolic Rate which can be calculated by using the Harris Benedict formula. It's not an exact science but it's a starting point.

In theory this should allow a one pound weight loss per week, it is said that 3,500 calories is the equivalent of one pound, so drop 3,500 calories in a week should be a one pound loss it also means that in theory that means eating 3,500 calories too much and there's a one pound gain. As I've already said, that's the theory.

There's many thing affecting weight, so the scales shouldn't be taken to heart if you can help it, it's worth measuring yourself. Weight will be affected by fluid retention, slow intestinal transit, muscle/fat ratio as well as all sorts of other complications that even your GP will have no idea about.

All the best.

Low Carb, under 25gms a day, and do some exercise and guaranteed loss will result

There is no issue adjusting insulin to carbs, basal needs slow adjustments over 2 to 3 days but most of us here will take different bolus amounts with each and every meal. The danger would be in not doing so and running too high or low!!
