Hello all. I'm new to a LCHF diet having been diagnosed in August. I've found lots of amazing recipes for LC baking - sweet and savoury. Unfortunately a lot of the ingredients are not to be found on the average supermarket shelf. So I shall be looking online to buy some. This being the case, I thought it would be useful to ask you old pros what essentials you keep in your store cupboards for the purposes of low carb cooking / baking. I'm hoping it might help me make a start in deciding which ingredients I'm likely to use most :-)

Flax Seed Meal - keep this one in the fridge as it can go rancid
Almond Flour
Coconut Flour
Psyllium Husk
Stevia sweetener
Vanilla Extract
Walnuts/Almonds/Macadamia Nuts - I keep these in the fridge as well
LOTS of eggs!!

All I can think of right now :)

Oops - forgot savoury!

I keep lots of spices on hand - in particular garlic powder, dried onion, chilli flakes & Italian spice blends

And thats it.. Moving in 10 days!! Old plastic wine glasses and old mugs to hold down the newly lined paper for new owners..

Nuts, flaxseed n chia, chick peas and almond milk for 7 days!! -lol:)

Not much has changed in my kitchen (yet) since I started low carbing. I did shift things around a bit so I had room to stock some low carb diet items I bought - note to self, double check pack sizes before buying... I got HUGE packs of chia seeds, raw cocoa, coconut flour, almond flour, ground almonds, coconut oil and coconut milk powder. I got kilo tub of almond paste which I'm not sure what to do with. In lesser quantifies I also got some psyllium husk, brazil nuts, walnuts and a variety of different essences and extracts to make chia puddings interesting.

In the cupboards either side is my husband's stash of pasta, rice and other carbs and the other side is his stash of chocolate, sweeties and crisps.

The things I seem to be buying most are lots of eggs, avocados and f/f cream cheese.

Yes, I keep a lot of splces and herbs as well.

Not much has changed since I started my low carb diet as (a) my husband still eats high(er) carb foods, and (b) I've not actually had to add very much in the way of speciality stuff to my diet as most of what I eat now I would have been eating anyway - I've just ditched all the carby foods.

So I think it really depends on what you ate and what your cupboards held pre low carbing. Like @Chook, my cupboards were well stocked with herbs, spices, various essences and flavourings for baking, etc, already. But my main extras include coconut oil and butter, coconut flour (which I don't tend to use as I found baking with it difficult), sesame flour, low carb bread mix, flax seed, cocoa, almond milk, stevia and erythritol, and a little more in the way of nuts, ground almonds, and cream.

My husband prefers to do the food shopping on line, so what he can't buy from Tescos, I generally find via Amazon.

PS If you search around on the web, there are various low carb shopping lists which you may be useful.

I haven't tried baking yet, which is odd, because I baked all the time prior to LC. My kids miss the homemade bread.

Cooking:
Oils- avocado oil, coconut oil, butter, olive oil (currently, out of it)
Nuts- macadamia and pumpkin are my two favorites
Seeds- chia, flax
Protein powder- MRM 100% Natural Whey
Tinned protein- tuna, herring, chicken, corned beef (occasional)
Flour- coconut & almond, but I haven't used it yet. I am going to try this weekend.
LC friendly alfredo, pasta sauce, jam
Sweeteners- Swerve, liquid stevia

Husband has non-coeliac gluten syndrome and hates almonds so no flour of any description and no baking going on.

The only open stuff in the larder would be Engevita, Swedish organic ground Arabica, milled flaxseed, low salt stock cubes, dried herbs and spices - mostly in airtight jars. It's really just a store for unopened jars, cans and bottles these days.

Thanks all, this is really helpful :-)
Donnellysdogs - hope your move goes well - dont envy you THAT particular stress!
Chook - thanks for the warning re sizes - I'll look out for that. Isn't marzipan made out of almond paste? Maybe you could make some low carb marzipan xmas treats or something.
Anyone got any advice for best tasting sweeteners? I've tried 2 types of stevia - it's ok but I still find it has an odd aftertaste. I made a low carb choc cake with it this w/e - and it was ok but deffo had an aftertaste. Noone else in my family liked it so now Ive got a zillion slices of it in the freezer!
