treat any sores you may get?

I get boils/sores in awkward places and find it hard to treat them and then go away.

They can last for anything up to a month and hubby seems to think they are caused by hair follicles.

At present I wash them with salt water and then apply a hard based cream used for babies bums/sunburn/ cuts etc. If they are really bad I cover them with a dressing, and then repeat the following morning

I dont really want to go see the GP because of where these sores occur (bit embarrasing getting your kit off)

I'm a type 2 diabetic so understand I have to look after these things.

any advice please?

(I'm now going to go and hide in the corner after to admitting to such a thing)

What are your blood sugars like? I suspect the sores may be related to higher levels, lower levels will help prevent them.

Doctors have seen anything and everything. They like seeing stuff. Gird up and go see the GP or Practice Nurse. What is a few minutes embarrassment compared to weeks of discomfort? Good luck.

I have been known to dab 10% Hydrogen Peroxide on a persistent spot on my inner thigh.........stings like the devil for a few mins but does the job.......... not recommending this you understand but just saying..........it also works on cold sores too.:bag:

They can be caused by shaving - I saw that on 'Embarrassing Bodies' but also by irritation from tight clothing or bacteria on the skin - it might need some more active treatment to get rid of them.
I'm very limited in what I can wear as even 'all cotton' pants are often sewn or edged with man made fibres, and I get red lines from that - I react to man made fibres - even something like a soft knitted hat will leave a red imprint on my skin.

If you're using baby cream, then Desitin is the absolute creme de la creme.
I'm actually not sure it's the long-term answer to your issue-I think Diakat may be closer to identifying the root cause, but if anyone is out there looking to use nappy rash cream, I can tell you Desitin is the bomb-diggity: I used it on my baby boys, then used some on myself when I had rashes due to high bloods (pre-dx) and it felt like plunging a hot horse-shoe into water

I was told not to check my blood sugar levels so I really have no idea.

I used to put it down to usual woman's cycle but I dont have that issue any longer

I'm due my diabetic check in December so I am going to speak to the diabetic nurse during the check and ask for her opinion.

They are just so uncomfortable

Can you buy that in any chemist? I know you can buy it for hair colouring. I'll try anything once

Hiya my GP advised not to shave but to use hair removing cream from the body. I've used that for years but still get the sores.

And yes I understand with the cotton undies and the man made edging. Irritating

Beleive me, I know your pain. I suffer boils at times of extreme stress, on the topmost parts of the inner thighs. I, too, was embarrassed at first but the only releif I got was from antibiotics. I tried old wives tales, creams and potions but was finally driven to the GP through sheer misery. See a health care professional but for your releif and comfort do it soon. Best of luck to you.

I've just looked up Desitin and it's American based so not sure if we would be able to get it in the good old UK. Their recommended use for the UK is the cream I'm using :)

Thankyou

I will speak to the nurse. As you can imagine being female and having to wear bras and knickers they do sometimes create irritation and keep the sore open, hence the dressings.

I guess I'm lucky as I've just managed to clear one in 5 days, what a record :shy:

Glad to hear you've managed to clear one up.....xxxx
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you........yes you should be able to get it at any chemists........maybe try the 5% first as I say it does sting and bubble a bit but that's it working to "eat up" the junk, like those enzyme based clothes spot cleaners..........I do feel for you........can I suggest if you haven't got a meter to check on your bsl's you get one and test as I have found my spots appear after a few days of running high.......
