Hey everyone!

Sorry, this is going to be such a basic question!

My wife and I recently moved to Scotland. She brought 6 months of insulin/supplies with her as a precaution, but when she needs to get further prescriptions and check-ups, how do we go about that?

We registered at the GP 2 weeks ago, and they've told us they don't have any appointments for the next ~2 months (only same-day emergency appointments until further notice). When it comes time to get more insulin and/or check-in on her A1C's do we book a regular GP appointment and they do it in-house? Is it normal to also see an endocrinologist?

We're coming from a mix of New Zealand and US backgrounds, so we're still navigating through how the NHS system works and the best process to take.

Thanks for any help you can provide! :)
Have a great day.

You need to tell them why you need the appointment, they may not have your medical records on file yet to see the reasons. It seems odd to me that they dont have any appointments for 2 months at all, they may think you mean for a general check up as part of your registration.

Hello,
You need to highlight why you need to see a GP. Then when you see the GP
1) ask him or her to refer you to a hospital to see the consultant or endo for diabetes. Consultant and diabetes nurse can further assist your wife’s diabetes and her control. Diabetes is out of GP’s expertise, but they can only provide you a prescription to go to the pharmacy for insulin etc.
2) you need insulin etc, make sure you bring packaging and the boxes with you.
If it is a pump or cgms, you might have some difficulty.
