What's the weather where you're at.

Strong and freezing local wind called the Bise. Like the Mistral in France. Very unpleasant but dry at least.
Oh - have heard of the Mistral in france .
Tell us more about the Bise ?
Be interested to hear about this and any info on the mIstral too .

Milder temperature outside than yesterday .
Brilliant sunshine again too .
Lovely out now .

The Bise is a North-Easterly wind which usually blows for 3 days caused by a high pressure area over Germany and France and a low pressure area over Italy. The wind is funnelled between the low and high pressure areas down the Swiss plateau down to Lake Geneva where it's at full force. It's noisy and blows at 40-60 km an hour or more, eases off at night and restarts in the morning. The Bise and the Mistral are very similar. The Mistral has its high pressure area over the Bay of Biscay and the low pressure area also over Northern Italy. The Bise Noir (black Bise) is particularly strong in winter which is what we've got now.

There is also a warm wind called the foehn (hairdrier!) starting in Italy, crosses the Alps and drops all the rain over the Alps. As it goes down (now dry) the northern side of the Alps it really heats up and causes fires - when it's blowing in the valleys it's forbidden to light fires. It gives everyone headaches.

Bise also means "kiss" - the sort of peck on the cheek you give to friends.

I hope all this is correct:)

Say Thanks to Mr Daisy for me :)
Much appreciated - really interested to hear about this .
Believe the Mistral has its own 'whistle' noise sound effect when it blows .

Bise blowing at Force 9 today. Chill factor -8. We have been told not to go out. Snowdrifts forming - yesterday I went into a skid which scared me so I've stayed in today. Many schools closed.

Don't mean I like you went into a skid :(
You stay indoors - warm and safe Daisy
Like the fact - you are not out in your car with weather conditions
that could harm you .
Keep warm and safe Daisy best eh (thumb up smiley)

Do you live high up ?
You are near a mountain arn't you ?

We live at 1625 feet above sea level. In front of us is Mont Blanc 50 miles away and right behind is the Jura mountain range. It's beautiful.

It's been bitterly cold on the South Coast. The cars are already frosting over. It's been a really sunny day, but just so cold. I can't remember wearing any thermals last year, but this year I don't go out without them. If it comes to comfort or glamour, it's comfort every time.

Its been absolutely freezing all day here in Cumbria! It wouldn't surprise me if we get even more snow

You can see the snow line. The round dome is the Geneva Air Traffic Control radar. The small dome is weather radar.

Just stunning daisy, WOW :joyful:

I cheated a bit to get the Jura picture as there is a house opposite us and walked down the road a little bit to a gap in the houses. I can still see the top from our kitchen window though. The Jura picture was not taken today as the top is in the clouds at the moment.
