You've written the shopping list, budgeted what you can spend and headed to the shops with the good intention of just getting the items on your list. But then it happens, as you walk up an aisle you spot that food item you've not eaten since being diagnosed diabetic on offer and you hesitate, ending up putting it in your basket knowing full well you are going to regret it later with either high blood sugars or a lack of self control.

For me it is Peperami, I can't stop at one I have to have another and if I am not careful another each time knowing that this isn't doing either my weight or my blood pressure any good.

I had a 0g carbs Diet Coke today, one of those tiny mixer cans, spotted in Sainsbury's.

Cake - It kills me saying no! And whats worse is we have a couple of patients at the moment who are kind enough to bake a cake for us every time they come - and I have to see it in front of me for the rest of the day before my colleagues finally polish it off!

There are many things that tempt me, so I delegate shopping to my OH (with a list).

((Kettle chips, black pepper flavour, big bag!))

Le Pralus organic 100% cocoa chocolate.

This will be my Christmas Day treat while Mr Celeriac and my mother MrsMeringue tuck into Fortnum & Mason gluten free vegetarian Christmas pudding with gluten free organic vegetarian vanilla custard, gluten free organic vegetarian mince pies (possibly made by Mr Celeriac), gluten free organic vegetarian Christmas cake and then Prestat organic gluten free vegetarian chocolate truffles.

My mother will happily dig into those (£25 for the truffles alone) but woe betide me spending £5 on a bar of luxury sugar free chocolate for myself. She WILL ask me what it is, expect a taste and grill me about the cost.

I will tell her nowt and she will niggle me until I get grumpy and then ooh scandal, I spent £5 on me.

Pakora of every description, onion bajiis and samosa.Whats not to like? A little is probably OK but that's the problem!!

I used to love veggie samosas ! I have contemplated attempting to make some using paleo wraps from Julian Bakery. Maybe I will while MrC is off at Christmas.

I have every faith you will find a way

I make a low carb 'Pea & Potato' samosa salad @Celeriac . I replace the potato with steamed cauliflower, use fewer peas & dress while warm with a samosa spice mix dressing. It's no samosa but it's still very nice :)

Sushi, it says very few carbs but makes me sooooo high

Probably porridge, or smoothies with a lot of fruit in it! Sad that these are both healthy and delicious, but both spike me! Also sweet potatoes
