I know that things will never really be the same but when lockdown does end and this whole covid virus calms down, it’s safer and we learn to move forward in the best possible way we can, what will be some of the things you get up to?

What do you miss?

I miss going to restaurants!!

Make new friends in my area - we moved at the end of 2019 to a new area and I have no friends or family anywhere near me and never really got the chance to get out there and make some connections- quite lonely at times

Assuming you are female, check out the WI. Ours has gone online and we've had several new ladies join us. There's also a large Facebook group called UWI which is very friendly and has links to all sorts of activities and courses.
I appreciate its not 1 to 1 or face to face but it may help in the meanwhile and lay some foundations for the future

Yes eating out at nice restaurants again. Meeting up with friends that I can't wait to physically meet again. Going out for nights out with friends and hubby. Weekends away - we enjoy doing a lot of short breaks to cities on weekends when we are not working. Just to even go for a day out shopping without being soooo careful about everything. Freedom really. Oh I am starting to feel a bit sad now ... haven't really thought about all this for a wee while ... really miss how life used to be ... we all used to take so much for granted

We have a list thats 3 pages long, but aren't even looking at it as too depressing at the moment.
We have enjoyed much of America and Canada and were caught out in Asia when covid hit. We spent 2 months in New Zealand last year and still didn't get to see all we wanted...so many places

Hi,
I miss doing live gigs.
I front two bands. Though strangely we did manage to remotely write & record some songs during the lockdowns..

Travel.
The plan with my wife was Japan. who knows when.
Possibly going back to India too? My wife & i have always been fans of going off "the beaten track."

Hi there,

Yes Japan is a must! We went in 2018 and can’t wait to go back!!! But yes, we dont know when this will be covid/money wise. We will start saving up slowly away and see what happens. But I highly recommend for when this is all over, Japan is pure magic everywhere you go there!

Spontaneity.
Not having to think is it covid safe, have I got a mask, can I do or go.
Yea I agree, just inviting someone out for coffee, or just going for a browse around the shops or gosh even the smell of popcorn in the cinema and just people, people everywhere in the shopping centres! Gosh we were living in London before lockdown and there were just people everywhere, now we have moved back North and it’s just a constant ghost town. Yes it’s good because we want to keep safe, but I do miss all the people and the hustle and bussle of virus worry free life

We wanted to celebrate our 12th anniversary in Venice, so that didn't happen. I miss the cat café 's and zoo's, amusement parks, or just photographing nice old cities. I miss my family and friends, so, yeah... When Covid is a memory, I do plan to travel a bit within and without the Dutch borders, and maybe I'll even socialise a little! Just a little, mind. :)

Bigotry, reliance on unsupported 'facts', unkindness, unfairness.
Going to see my Greek friends, in Greece. I was due to stay with them in late May, early July, before it got hot and touristy. Going to New Zealand. I promised myself it’d be my 70th birthday present to myself, that was 2019, so it’ll have to wait. Until I’m 73? Husband doesn’t travel any more, he’s a physical condition that’s horrid if it flares up; he’s fine most of the time, but I’d have gone to New Zealand on my own, probably stopping off in Cook Islands on the way.
Taking public transport up to the Midlands to see grandchildren I’ve not seen since February.
Taking public transport to see friends so we can enjoy a glass or two together.
Getting back to the ceramics group.
Just wandering around anywhere without a mask and that soupçon of fear.
Cinema, restaurants, theatre, galleries . . .

Lovinglife - I feel for you.

I have lived in this village for many years, but having undertaken a massive re-hash of our gardens this yet (what I can't tell you about farmyard manure, you will never need to know!), I met a lot of locals, out walking, who would just pass comment on the latest piece of work, or whatever.

I also became aware of a village Facebook page. On that page, there were a number of folks such as yourself, who could at least reach out in a virtual way.

The village has also had a lot of initiative this year, to do things differently - oiften with the children in mind, to makr things like Halloween, and moving forward, towards Christmas.

I really don't much care for Facebook, but it has come into its own in the past few months.

Maybe there could be something locally for you?

(Apologies, @Choosehappy for derailing a bit.)

I would finally visit the UK to meet some good friends I've never met outside the internet, and make a little road trip through your country. It should've happened this spring and it was going to be my first 'real' holiday in many years!

Our family has a yearly weekend trip with the siblings of my father and most of their children and grandchildren. The family has spread far and wide, so we don't see eachother often outside those weekends. Didn't happen this spring, didn't happen this autumn and it likely won't be happening next spring. The oldest generation (the ones who are left) are all in their eighties, so I hope I will see them again.

Swimming, visiting people without thinking about it, giving hugs, lots of hugs.

I do plan to travel a bit within and without the Dutch borders, and maybe I'll even socialise a little! Just a little, mind. :)
And who knows, If Jo is feeling particularly adventurous on the socialising bit, we might meet in a zoo or a cat café ;)

I think I'd like that, if I can manage it. It's been getting harder again lately, and it's never been easy to begin with. Still... Possible goals!!!! (You might want to consider opening up a goat café in the meantime, haha)

No problem!

I am happy everyone is getting involved with this discussion, I make a mini bucket list in my mind every day and it’s nice to have people to talk about it with!
