Hey all. I was told bya diabetes nurse awhile ago that I should take my fast acting humalog a few mins before I eat, another nurse said no more then 15mins before..and I've also heard you can take it right after your meal..
Which is correct and what do you do if on humalog?
Thanks.

Take it when you get the best results. If there is a lot of carb in the meal, I can take fast acting insulin an hour before I eat. Try different timing and use the one that works best.

I take half my Humalog 20-30 minutes before I eat and the rest afterwards. I usually don't go above 130-140 afterwards. I have a friend that she will crash if she takes it a half hour before, but she does great taking half 20 minutes before......................

We are all different, you kind of have to experiment for what works best for you.

A CGM is really helpful to figuring out when to dose and when to take adjustments because you can exactly see how you are responding.

Hi,

Depends on the carb content & posibly any fat in the meal delaying digestion?

Rule of thumb, 20 minutes.

To complicate things further, the other day, I ate at the tail end of a correction dose & injected just prior to picking up the fork.
Had a lovely flat line on the graph in the 5s.

Some folk might inject after for larger amounts of protien, or if they had simply forgotten to do it prior?

It's about getting that insulin working profile to suit your requirements.

Thankyou. Very helpful. I'll try different ways and see how I go. :)

Thanks I'll definitely look into a CGM. Think that would really benefit me. :)
