Lewes,County town of Sussex. ****** shops and awful parking but a lovely twee little town.
How are the pope-burnings, these days?

Yes,Lewes certainly comes alive on the 5th November. 5 (or is it 6) bonfire societies dress up and parade up and down Lewes High Street and the town has I think 30,000 visitors. Each bonfire society then has it's own bonfire sites and the popes are indeed blown to smithereens. Then it seems like there is a competition to see which one of them has the biggest and the best firework display.

I have never been a lover of bonfire night and watch all the pretty fireworks from my flat which has the most amazing view of Lewes as I am on the top floor.
