After following a LCHF diet for some time now my HBA1C results have been in the non diabetic range for some time and 3 months ago my doctor took me off medication (Galvus) and said as I was so well controlled i could be diet controlled and another blood test in 3 months.
Well today was results day and bloods came back at 37 so even lower than last time 39 but cholesterol had gone up again to 7.1 from 6.9 3 months ago.
They know I won't take Statins ( tried 3 different ones and all gave me muscle ache ) so have given me another 3 months to get my cholesterol down by changing my diet !
So do I now have to drop the high fat part of the diet which the DSN suggested but that means more carbs if I choose the low fat option or can anyone suggest a supplement I can take to help ? Your advice would be much appreciated

have you tried intermittent fasting ?
like only eating in an 8 hour window , I do it from like 11 o´clock untill 19 o´clock in the evening and do not eat from that time till next morning ..
it helped me getting my cholesterol down really fast...

Thanks for your reply , I basically do this already eating from 10 in the morning and dinner at 5pm so nothing else after this .

Do you know the breakdown of your cholesterol this time and last time? This is very important as it will tell you which bits have gone up. It could well be your good cholesterol has gone up and not your bad cholesterol. It will also tell you what your triglycerides are, which reminds me, was the test a fasting one? If not your triglyceride results may be a lot higher than if it were a fasting test.

I only have the last breakdown not today's as doctor not in today and he has to authorize my copy !!

How much carb/day are you eating Connie your results are not typical of LCHF! Your HDL should be 1.5 or more and your trigs down well below 2. Your potassium is well up which may be your diet....good for bp! atb D.

GGT? Gamma GT? It says 17, which is well normal.

Seems like my diet is keeping bloods in normal range but not my cholesterol so I need to know what to "tweek"
Surgery phoned me tonight to arrange an appointment with the surgery pharmacist to see what other drug I could change to !! There's no escape !!!!

Hi my cholesterol went up when I low carbed in the beginning including my trigs.
I massively improved my readings by only eating so called 'healthy' fats, like extra Virgin Olive oil, avo's, nuts, oily fish.

@connie104 Are you getting some of your fats and oils from things like oily fish, olives, nuts and nut oils too?

I try to include as many different fat/oil sources as I can, and all my cholesterol levels are currently normal, and I certainly eat a fairly high fat diet.

I eat oily fish maybe twice a week can't stand olives and use extra virgin olive oils . Not a great nut eater but would try nut oils . I do eat peanut butter with
no added sugar .
I am so strict with my diet that my husband thinks I'm obsessive about it and it has worked with regard to my blood glucose just not the cholesterol !

rapeseed oil is also a good oil and coconut-oil which is much better than animal fats... if nothing else helps I would cut out animal fats of all kinds... and eat very little cream and butter too... coconut-fat/oil and coconut is also a saturated fat but contains no cholesterol at all in contrary to all the animal fats and eggyolk

I agree about rapeseed oil for frying. More Omega 3 than olive oil and a better balance with omega 6 I believe. Lidl sell the extra virgin variety but it is expensive. However, cholesterol-containing foods such as eggs have so little effect, if any, on our body cholesterol it isn't worth considering. Our bodies make the vast majority of our cholesterol, it does not come from eating it.

There are a few that themselvses do produce so much cholesterol themselves that the food cholesterol on top of that is not a good idea, but yes most of our cholesterol we produce our selves and what is in food usually do not matter much in the whole view

Your diet should get your bloods right eventually. GGT is given off by the liver and could indicate fatty liver disease but yours is excellent . It is an indicator of metabolic syndrome and a predictor of heart attacks . I wish mine was even twice what yours is Connie. Get the cold pressed rapeseed oil at lidl it is c.£2 / bottle the cheap stuff has been heat treated and is foul! atb D.

Next time I'm in Lidl I will have a look for the rapeseed oil. Also cut down on the animal fats etc and see how it goes . It will be interesting to see what the pharmacist says on the 18 th November I doubt if she will prescribe the new drugs for people who can't take Statins (Repatha and Praluent) as they cost more than Statins and it's always the cost !
