Where to buy low carb please

Hi, I am having a little bit of trouble finding the ingredients for all these yummy recipes, I don't think I can really tell what's affecting my bg as its all over the place there's no pattern to it but it's staying under 10 so I'm happy for week 3 after diagnosis I'm trying very hard to eat low carb, no spud rice or pasta at all, I do have 2 slices of granary with my sandwich at lunch but salad with everything is just starting to get a little boring so I'd like to try and cook stuff I've seen on the forum, the supermarkets, ie. asda tesco morrisons a sainsburys are useless, I went to health shops today and fount what I think is almond flour it says crushed almond but the lady in the shop said its the same as flour and I found some flax stuff which I remembered seeing a lot but.... Is there a best place to shop? Thanks in a advance
Andy

Andy, I order items from ebay, anything that I cant get from supermarkets or H&B, I order almond flour (=ground almonds) in 1kg packs from ebay, also guar gum/xanthan gum, locust bean gum, etc

Hollands and Barrett, As nature intended and all the health food store sell most of the ingredients. Ground almonds are everywhere but its cheaper to make it by yourself. you will need a coffee grinder (the same with flaxseed)

I've used lowcarb megastore and found their service very good. there's also anotther on-line shop called "Avidlite", which also has good service.

Andy, I get a lot of stuff from Holland & Barrett. Coconut flour I had to buy online. Almond flour is the same as ground almonds - you'll get that in any supermarket. Flaxseed in H&B. Sainsbury sell golden linseed which I ground myself in my Vitamix (others use a coffee grinder but I don't have one).

Unfortunately I think you can end up spending a fair bit (I should have shares in H&B!) but if you think about comparing it to the price of a takeaway. If you're anything like me, you'll have been having less of those.

If there is an Asian community near where you live it is worth checking the shops out there they have coconut flour and coconut oil in the one we visited .Husband was shopping for dried chillis and vinegar for his famous pickled onions and got both for about 1/3rd of supermarket price and the smells of all the herbs and spices make you drool

I paid a visit to my local Asian shop this morning. Got sesame seeds, flaxseeds (the dark kind, not the golden ones), coconut oil (that stuff is bizarre!). It's completely solid! I'm not absolutely sure what I'm meant to do with that, but I've seen it mentioned in lots of recipes. Got ground almonds (almond flour) for MUCH cheaper than the supermarket. Couldn't find coconut flour but got dessicated coconut I which I moderately successfully managed to mill into flour in my vitamix (found that if you pulse it for too long, it starts to get moist and clumpy). And got a box of psyllium husks for 95p which cost me £11.95 in Holland & Barrett!

The coconut flour used in recipes which are very low carb is not made from desiccated coconuts, the best product is brand called Aman prana, you might find it in Asian stores, I've ordered mine online.
