Which kinds of exercise raise / lower blood sugar?

I'll check when I have a hot shower later.
A hot shower seems to consistently raise BG for me but not by a lot e.g. 6.7 to 7.4 and 6.4 to 7.3 and doesn't elevate for long. heads back down about 10 minutes after showering

Several posts have been moved to a new thread to avoid derailing the thread the new thread entitled “Green Tea & Ginger Infusion can be found here

Please try to keep on topic guys :) cheers lovinglife

As a rule of thumb, insulin and adrenaline are sworn enemies. Raise adrenaline, and sugars will tend to rise, lower adrenaline and glucose storage function restarts.

So some exercises like walking, hiking, swimming, and resistive stress exercises like weights and lifting at a gentle activity level seem to lower bgl, but competitive sports and intensive activities tend to let bgl levels rise.
This is so true! I swim quite a bit and end up with very low readings at the end of my swim, so I know that I have to take a glucose shot before I start. On the other hand, when I am having HIIT and Crossfit sessions, my sugars can rise also by sometimes as high as 10 points. I now have a Freestyle Libre 2 sensor which is enabling me to have more understanding of my patterns.

I have. Dexcom 7 and love to take hot showers. However, the Dexcom shoots up when the water is really hot. Asked Google and lo and behold, it will malfunction when heated too much. I’ve seen similar dropping at times going outside when it’s cold and very windy - I live by the ocean.

Does stress contribute to raising blood glucose. It does increase blood pressure as well as diet. I was measured 135 blood pressure at gap next time despite no change in diet exercise it was 167. I put that rise purely to stress anger. I’m recovering mental health as I’m autistic and was not understood. I angry stress day in day out.

I understand that cortisol which is a stress hormone - one released when we're stressed - that will trigger the liver to dump glucose from stores, increasing BG levels quickly.

Stress Response

The human body is continually responding to internal and external stressors. The body processes the stressful information and elicits a response depending on the degree of threat...... Cortisol is released from the adrenal cortex and allows the body to continue to stay on high alert. Acutely, cortisol’s catabolic mechanisms provide energy to the body.[6]

Glucose and Protein Homeostasis

Blood glucose levels drive key systemic and intracellular pathways. The presence of glucocorticoids, such as cortisol, increase the availability of blood glucose to the brain. Cortisol acts on the liver, muscle, adipose tissue, and pancreas. In the liver, high cortisol levels increase gluconeogenesis and decrease glycogen synthesis.[7] Gluconeogenesis is a metabolic pathway that results in the production of glucose from glucogenic amino acids, lactate, or glycerol 3- phosphate found in triglycerides. Gluconeogenesis reverses glycolysis, a cytoplasmic pathway used to convert glucose into pyruvate molecules.
