Who would I see about this: Endo or GP?

Hi, I'm T1 dx 2yrs ago and I'm getting a sneaking suspiscion that I may be developing an overactive thyroid. I'm not due to see my Endo until mid August and wondered if it would be an idea to phone the clinic and ask if the appt. could be brought forward or just go to see my GP so she can send me for a blood test? I just thought that with being under an Endo anyway that it would be easier to cut out having to see my GP.

What do you think?

Make an appointment and see your GP! It will put your mind at rest and is easily diagnosed by a simple blood test. It is a very long time until August! :)

Victry,

I would make appointment to see gp. Should he feel it necessary, he will carry out blood tests and write to your Endo to speed things up if the results are positive. Hope things go well!

Thank you both for your very quick responses. Yes, seeing my GP is more sensible, you're both right. I've only suspected it could be a thyroid problem since this morning. It came to me in my sleep, oddly enough. Just based on a couple of "symptoms" that I've noticed since last week. Nothing glaring but during the early hours it dawned on me that they could be signs of an OvTh. I'm going to see how things go this week and if I'm still not happy by Friday I'll call to make an appt. with my GP for the following week.

Cheers.

Thing is, you can always run it past Endo when you see them as they will be more up to date likely with treatments and current thinking and such like

i agree about the g.p,with me the thyroid probs came first :)

Hi, thanks totsy & synonym.

Haven't made the appt. yet but think I probably will on Monday. I got my thyroid tested when I was first diagnosed 2yrs ago and it was fine then, but I noticed I appear to be losing a bit of weight. Point is, I'm a very slim person and am actually on a diet plan to maintain/gain weight. Weight loss was the very first and most notable symptom I experinced with D. and I think it's starting to act a bit funny again just like it did back then. I also noticed the other week I seemed to be feeling really starving, gobbling down my dinner, lunch, etc, as fast as I could. I haven't felt like that this week but I know increased appetite/weight loss can be thyroid and of course thryoid dysfunctions have links with T1 and from what I believe, the symptoms can be quite gradual?

Feeling quite despondent actually. I'd kept an eye with my weight all week and thought it actually seemed to be going OK but this morning I got on the scales and noticed I've lost another 1lb which shouldn't be happening given that I'm eating no less :(

see your g.p and let us know how u get on, ive had both an underactive and overactive thyroid :D
