why, after 25 years of management of Type 1 have I suddenly got a reaing of 53 and my doctor was going to prescribe metformin? I am rather scared of the multiple side effects of metformin, especially after a TIA
4 weeks ago.

Depens upon how much you teat/check etc and koads of variances as to why umuts 53.. could be down to being stressed, eating different, body changes .... huge variables that can put levels to 53..

Metformin although diabetes drug has actually been found to be helpful regards to fending off cancer... so there are negatives-but some positives are not being highlighted besides the diabetes.

Most people have no issues with Metformin after the first week or two. You need to find the best time to take it, this could be with a meal, just before the meal, or just after the meal. You also need to slowly increase the dose.

There is a slow release form of Metformin that your dr can prescribe if the side effects remain after a few weeks.

I’m a type 2 on Metformin, not everybody suffers bad side effects. I’ve been on it for seven and a half months. I had a few days of upset stomach at the start, I increased from one tablet/day first week, to two second etc. I now take three per day and absolutely no side effects.
