How is the 24hr fasting days going @Brunneria?Yeah. I did 16/8 for 6 months or so. Liked it. Got addicted to coffeencream. But it did nothing for bg or weight.
Am thinking that some of us need to upgrade to bigger calibre. Am giving 24hr fasts a go for 2 weeks, Mon/Wed/Fri, and seeing how it goes.
So far, IR reduction is fantastic, hunger is totally manageable, but don't know about any weight loss - although you can guarantee that my body will be the most resistant of any. It is just inevitable. lol.

Oh wow Brunneria! Thats just fantastic! You go girlthanks for asking.
I am quite astonished, to be honest.
After not finding 16/8 of any benefit at all, i was deeply sceptical that 24 hr IF would be any better.
However, this is what has happened so far:
Day 1 Monday: fasting 7pm to 7pm the next day. Hunger, wobbliness and lack of energy was bearable. Bg dropped 0.5mmol/l lower than usual by 7pm suggesting insulin resistance was dropping.
Next day (16/8 fasting), no dawn phenomenon at all. Baseline bg stayed low, but bounced back up following evening meal.
Bg averaged 1mmol/l lower than usual ALL DAY
The same thing happened with fasting on Wed and Fri. I lived in the 4s and 5 s rather than the 5s and 6s!
By the time the weekend came, my insulin resistance was taking longer to rise again after the fast, and took til Sunday to return to its usual levels (i am taking my rising and falling 'baseline' bg as having a direct correlation with insulin resistance levels)
Weightloss over week: 0.8 pounds
Week 2:
Same pattern, same reduction in baseline bg/IR
Gradual reduction in hunger while fasting
Gradual increase in energy while fasting.
Ketones rose from 0.3 on day 1, fell on non-fasting days and rose again each F day to reach 0.8 on Friday of 2nd week
Total Weightloss at end of week 2 was 4 pounds.
So it is fair to say that i am reaping some benefits.
I had concerns about hypos. They have proved (so far) groundless.
I was expecting hunger and wobbliness. They happened but were manageable
I wasn't expecting to lose weight. And i lost 4.8 pounds. AWESOME. If it continues, i will want to slow it down. Which is making my mind boggle.
I've been away this weekend and eaten excessively, but stayed quite low carb. So my weight will be in flux for a bit, but i am going to watch the scales with fascination during week 3
Try fasting! X

Yes @NurseDee, especially if your Keto adapted via an LCHF lifestyle. You body will just use your 40,000 or so calorie fat reserves....so much easier than when you are using sugar for fuel

Except that I have been fat adapted for years, and after 2+ weeks of this Mon-Wed-Fri thing, I STILL haven't seen even a day of proper ketosis. This has surprised me, but my blood tests are not lying.
So, again, I think this depends hugely on personal issues, such as amount of insulin resistance, etc. etc.
Interesting Brun. I think I'm in ketosis but no idea without investing in pee sticks which I can't be bothered with at the mo. My evil scales told me my fat is down by 2kg so that means my loss since starting two weeks ago is all fat so I'm
Pleased with that....hope it carries on. Tomorrow will be fast 8. I'm quite committed to this - no idea where the grit and determination has come from but not knocking it!

500 calories in 3 eggs!!!!!!!!!!!! Please tell me were this information come from. My dietitian has listed 3 regular eggs at 205 calories and 3 X large eggs at 270 calories. I have 3 medium eggs to make scrambled egg with a dash of semi-skimmed milk. Instead of butter to grease the pan I use a 1 cal spray.
So in effect you have your last meal 7pm then don't eat until 7pm next day and this equals 24 hour fast? Is that correct Kevin? That determination might be helped by the fact you are now probably burning fat and not sugar
I'm well into day three of my 4 day fast (completed tonight at 7pm) and this has been the easiest day by far....same principle I think...body happily munching away on my 40,000 Cs of fat rather than the max of 2000 C of sugar

Hi PippI don't know how I have missed these posts about fasting. Going to peruse and consider my own methodology.
So in effect you have your last meal 7pm then don't eat until 7pm next day and this equals 24 hour fast? Is that correct Kevin?
